In terms of telling squads that look identical apart, I read a great tip on a historical wargamer's blog some years ago. He suggested that one unit could have puddles, the second long grass and the third bits of undergrowth. I revised it for ease of visibility and tend to use those little clumps of flowers you can buy these days. Of course, given your awesome Ewoks, that'd be another way of marking off the squads.
i like how the video is called "I Forced Myself to Collect the Most Boring Army" but then talks with so much enthusiasm and excitement about that army. always happy to see that.
If you are bad at strategy, dont get leia, get specialist kit. It has Officer unit who is a cheaper and not as a complicated version of Leia, so you keep extra points for medic or engineer droid. They will keep your guys/vehicles alive longer
Saw this comment before really watching the video and instantly went to thinking _'oh that's very savage and 40k like, to have bases adorned with Ewok corpses in a Star Wars game.'_ Obviously thinking it was going to be an _imperial_ faction. I was further confused then when I saw that it was the rebels...then obviously I saw the Ewoks...alive and not dead. Then I paused for a moment and thought wow, 40k really does something to you lmao.
I love the mechanics of Legion. I hope Warhammer eventually goes to a unit-based turn system (like the tokens in Legion). I hate the way 40k does it now, I hate seeing someone come in for their first game, lose 3/4 of their army first turn by the try-hard competitive player, and never come back. I know, that’s just how it works sometimes. But I think some tweaks to the system could balance a bit.
That’s just baby raging, if you lose so much don’t give up and don’t just Never come back. You people don’t understand this clearly, if warhammer was token based it would scrap the APOCALYPSE feel that most people enjoy
Agree fully. Although, the biggest problem is with the first turn. One player activates his whole army, in the most target-rich environment possible. There could be easier fixes to the problem IMHO. E.g. before the 1st player starts turn 1, the other player can move once. Would give him a chance to get extra cover for key units.
I have ZERO clue about Warhammer (or tabletop games in general)... How can I imagine "losing" your army, like doesn't it get "reset" after every game, or do they physically destroyed?
Regarding command, try maybe Andor - he is pretty good. Also he works wonderfully with Luke's speeder, as he can shoot from there without moving. Also, a little point on the weapons: you can split the attacks in a unit by weapon types, meaning that a unit with 3 different attacks could split to shoot at 3 different units, and spread the suppression. If you don't need a particular keyword in your pool (like blast or pierce etc), it can be quite efficient to just shoot at another target. That could help you in the next game! Edit: forgot to say - very nice video!
Asmodee owns the Star Wars license but they gave it to Atomic Mass Games for some reason. I think Fantasy Flight did a better job handling the games but such is life. Also remember that your rebel units have abilities that give them a lot of dodge tokens. That's how you're supposed to bolster their survivability.
Great video as always friend 🤗 will you be bringing any armies this year to ADEPTICON? I’m hoping to get a couple games in this year at the free tables . Keep up the great work 😁😁😁
Me and 4 friends play legion once a week. Love the painting schemes. If you want some really heavy hitting heroes get Chewbacca, Han and Leia those 3 synergize amazingly
Not going to lie, painting the rebels has actually been the most fun out of all of them. This is literally my first time painting minis, and the storm troopers just got repetitive. the Rebels I could change stuff up, new colors, and make each one unique.
Echo Base Defenders is absolutely a great next purchase for you: Leia, Chewbacca, R2D2, C3PO, 4x Rebel Veterans, 4x Mark2 Emplacement Trooper, 2x Tauntauns and a Laser Cannon pizza dish. From there I’d also get the AA5 Speeder Bus (or two) and some Wookies. 😂
Legion Rebel main here, I play Leia all the time she is my favorite HQ but she is definitely a support character. But she combos well with Chewie who is definitely the throw at the bad guys solution you want!
I like the fleet trooper with the Ewok shield! I love legion! Great game fun to play!! I paint the base rims different colors so all of this squad had a blue base rim. All of that squad has a purple base rim. Thanks gents! Fantastic as always!!
Oh boy, am I glad to see that legion is still alive! I’ve learned that the bog standard rebel are actually very useful if you use them right. I use them for holding objectives. You put them in heavy cover and give a dodge. This negates 3 hits which is huge! And they can spend a dodge and regain it meaning they always have a dodge when your opponent is trying to remove them off the objective.
I dove into Legions last week and bought a boatload of rebel stuff, was nice seeing your advice of "just speedpaint" :) I really wanna try and solve the "rebel corps all look alike" thing, and since I don't care about looking like the real movie colors, I'm hoping that is easier.
Bring the satellite dish cannon (FD Cannon I think) and some T-47. Tell Sean to have fun with the monster T-47s are and good luck getting sniped by the 1000-channel intergalactic TV station satellite dish lol
I am not a tabletop player, but more of a LEGO collector, but I feel you there. I mostly collect imperial stuff because they are the ones who have the cool vehicles, but when it comes to minifigs I love collecting rebels, I LOVE how customizable they are. You can just switch parts around, give them different heads, weapons and gear to make all of them lool different.
Yaaaaas! The video I have been looking forward to! I also have a paint day today and this is great inspiration for my rebels. Also if you are looking for a cheap commander you can get a generic one with the upgrade pack and it let's you spend more points in the things you want to beat stick with. Also. Wookies.
Rebels have 5+ save. Battle droids have a 6+ save. Most rebel units get that “surge to defense”. By contrast, stormtroopers have a 4+ save, and the most durable units have a 3+ save.
Ya, feels like it though lol, and to be fair, that's quite a big difference in this game, since most heros only have 6 wounds, it's not like 40k where a squad of space Marines have 10 wounds.
Hey Jay, love the video! I would encourage you to read the newest set of rules because a lot of things have changed through the years. Also, AMG will be releasing an updated point balance this month, so look out for that too!
Jyn is my favourite Commander, paired with Sabine they’re amazing. Use Jyn’s 2-pip on Sabine, gain Teamwork keyword. Have Jyn go and use Quick Thinking. Both gain an aim and a dodge. Situational Awareness on them both to make them tankier. Sabine with Nimble and Gunslinger. Her ability to immobilize enemies. They’re so good. You just need more games with them. 😁
I think rebels and look way too cool if you add the different stuff such as Wookies and Mandalore. I really loved painting my Speeder. You can try operative Luke, is a cool model with diferent rules.
You guys should do a models and memories about X-Wing. I played a ton of that game up until they changed the rules in 2.0. Lot of great memories would be cool to hear your take on it.
Right now I'm planning 2 rebel builds. A Hoth themed one, using the new battleforce as a base. And a rouge 1 themed build. So im very exited. Also would love to see your other legion forces.
Honestly I wish the Rebels had more vehicle variation, maybe some upgrade kits for Infantry considering how many non-humans the Rebels had. Like, the Rebels used a lot of repurposed Civilian and Republic technology, but so far we've only got 2 examples in Legion
i dont care much for the actual wargaming part but i just love painting clone troopers. every one you can put hours into with just doing tiny patten details. both remaking my faves from the show and making up random new ones is so fucking fun
The thing that makes them “boring” kinda what makes them stick on my mind in the sliver screen. They served as the futuristic but also dated vibe of the setting while being realistic enough to get. Lucas clearly wanted his rebels to be shown as WW1/2 styled fighters given a modern splash fighting an ultra advanced and sleek regime of white coats and their impressive mecha. On a table top level it’s a little less iconic, particularly compared to the super overdressed imperium. But as much as I hate to use a line from the ROSW, they are “just people” from all across the galaxy. Thus with 3D printing and/or creative use of model lines, it’s possible to really create a super interesting yet coherent alliance to accompany the equally diverse heroes. To me, the Republic is one of the most visually boring factions because they are inherently sterile people that don’t exist beyond the war. You got clone troops, better clone troopers super clone troops then their mounted counterparts. To me their lack of inherit humanity is both their selling point and a detriment to ever want to paint them. Likewise the Empire is largely chromatic schemes that are a little hard to embellish.
I’ve seen people use the landspeeder to carry saben up close to throw out her bombs! Could try that some time! I like watching team relentless playbook, they have some fun strategies!
Me (a hardcore Star Wars fan) just getting a headache when you think about the time differences and the changes of the vehicles and armors. Besides the headache a very good video ones again 👍
If you paint the squad bases in different colors for each squad it can really help you tell them apart on the battlefield. edit: lol, paused right before you mentioned this lol
I ought to get back into Legion, I kind of burnt out on it a long while back, before they expanded into the Prequel stuff...going through a second starter set along with more boxes over a very short time left me unwilling to really do more with it...which was compounded by a new dog who tore apart a good chunk of my rebels. Kept wanting the Republic stuff to come out, back with the WotC minis, I always went for either Republic or, rarely, Mandos As for the tauntauns, if you look at some of the pre-Disney stuff, there were tauntaun species on other planets including jungle and deserts
This was hilarious. You're excitement is contagious. And many of the details about the game are inaccurate... but it didn't matter... because you were having so much fun 😂
The only people in rebels i like are the clones and mandolorians. Plus for sabine, you could always just paint the shoulder and knee pads differently. Its easier
Cool to see some Legion, big sw fan but still thinking about getting in, just not having any friends to play any wargames lol. Really nice touch with the ewoks.
I love star wars and star wars legion is such a nice game. I just hope it gets expanded continuously, I think there is still a lot to be created in terms of units.
Still love this awesome channel keep up the great work. Also just wondering what the best paints for rust are. I'm painting an ork combat patrol and I'm not too sure what to buy.
Luke is probably the best all around "beat stick" commander for Rebels. Cassian is super effective as a sniper, AND you get K2 in the box, but some of his mechanics are a little complicated. Han is also very consistent at damaging things. For you, I'd still say Cassian so you can do Rogue One themed stuff and get two fun models in the same box.
Rebels are my jam. I have something like 150 minis. Jyn is great and one of my favorites, just don't take her toe to toe with other commanders. Send her into a unit of Stormtroopers and she rips them apart, kind of thematic. Cassian and K2 are really fun too. Get a T47 "Snowspeeder" too.
You should check out an old PC game called 'Empire At War' which is an old Star Wars title and specifically a mod called 'Awakening of the Rebellion'. This would give you quite a few more unit types to add to this army and make it a lot more interesting.
jay if we were to ever battle in legion you had best hope for a miracle cause i run clones a lot and i role dice of fire that will burn through almost any army with ease.
Technically, according to some of the comics, the Empire didn’t even invent the AT-AT’s. The Republic actually had them first, they just barely used them.
I started Legion a couple of months ago after watching some Bat reps of it. Unlike Warhammer bat reps, it was actually fun to watch. I love the game rules so much, I might struggle going back to playing Warhammer!
I want to play Republic but I want them to release the iconic LAAT Gunship. Just the image of it swooping down to pick up and drop off clones just does it for me. ATTE would be great as well.
When you where talking about a deck...did they change that? I thought it was tokens you randomly pull from that tells you what type of unit can go. I remember getting coin protectors for mine when the game first came out.
If you’re playing legion right, with updated points values, it’s a very balanced game. Rebels do tend to be a little underpowered, but not nearly as bad as some faction in 40k
I play Jyn, I always have her running around the map shooting at things, I played 5 games, she survived all of them. I keep on hearing if you run her with the pathfinder, its a power house.
I’m not a Star Wars guy but my community loves legion: I got Rebels to get into it because it was dirt cheap. Same with stormcast in Sigmar, not my favorites but it lets me play more games and I prefer the more social stuff. Kill Team is me competitive game
I figured the "boring" would be troopers cause you have white armor it's up there with skeleton armies all the detail is the basing You should check out some of the patreons that make some great figures and bases for the game.
The transport rules have been updated a long time ago. Units dont take hits when their transports are hit anymore. Also units can shoot out of open transports.
I thought you were going to show off that pack of 100 army men that always got destroyed by misc. methods (K9 fodder, malicious older sibling, Solar powered beam of destruction, etc...)
I still don't get why though. If it was boring to you, why still do it instead of just skipping it? Your money to do with you want with but I guess it just doesn't click with me like you described it.
Chewbacca as an operator (Elite) paired with Leia or Han as your Commander (HQ) are really good combo’s. Yes the Rebels have no vehicles but you have Chewie
I think AMG could step into the sequal trilogy with legion, plenty of new storm trooper variants to fill core, got those tread bikes and speeders from ep7. And an interesting scout walker that didn't get screen time. Resistance has all their own stuff that could be used, though I hope they give more love attention to the game now and help to solidify the base before expanding with another army set. Oh ya and we got plenty of new heros for both sides so they have plenty for command/specialists.
I thought the most boring army would be genestealer cults, after all they do a lot of boring, mining and drilling.
No they are least favorite lol
You must have like 100 kids because that was the most dad joke of all time
best dad joke I’ve heard in years
Booo … I come to the internet to escape dad jokes, not join them!
How long did that take to come up with eh?

If you’re playing legion right, with updated points values, it’s a very balanced game. Rebels do tend to be a little underpowered, but not nearly as bad as some faction in 40k
I’m sorry, did Jay said Luke SKYPOTTER at 1:45 and 5:30?
Was looking at the comments to see if anyone had noticed and I was like "Is no one gonna mention this???" Lol
@@vera3311 Exactly. Was like, am I losing my mind?
I like how you added the ewoks everywhere.
Started playing SWL from 40k and i love it so so so much more
X-wing was my favourite time ever in "wargaming".
I loved the game so much
I play Jyn, I always have her running around the map shooting at things, I played 5 games, she survived all of them.
Legion models are the same size as 40k models. A common rebel trooper is the same size as a Space Marine.
Great video Jay, would love similar ones for the other factions!
I figured the "boring" would be troopers cause you have white armor it's up there with skeleton armies all the detail is the basing
You should check out some of the patreons that make some great figures and bases for the game.
The transport rules have been updated a long time ago. Units dont take hits when their transports are hit anymore. Also units can shoot out of open transports.
14:50 - It's confirmed! E.T.'s call sign is "Prune Face" 🤣
Your Rebels look phenomenal! Any how to paint videos coming in the future? Edit: Speedpaints and Sorastro!
You FORCEd yourself? Your pun is impressive. Most impressive
Chewbacca as an operator (Elite) paired with Leia or Han as your Commander (HQ) are really good combo’s. Yes the Rebels have no vehicles but you have Chewie
The least boring army are the Rebs. So much flavor and life in the alien species, rag tag warriors and who can be upset playing with Han and Chewie.
For Legion, they have layouts that map the dice to normal d6s and d8s.
