Hi - I'm pretty new to Mac from PC but the first time I used my Mac the easy instinct of getting out of full screen is just to tap the ESC (escape) upper left corner. Easy as pie.
Listen, I purchased my first Mac yesterday and there are so many great things about it. I was fuming about this exact scenario! You have helped me tremendously with this video, thank you!
Great to hear! Yeah that green button is very strange. It actually makes more sense if you ever used Linux to have multiple desktops. It's like it pretends to hook up a second or third monitor so you get more real estate but it's confusing af in the beginning.
One more kind of HUGE thing on this topic for all those with older macs: If you want to watch f.ex TH-cam in full screen on a separate monitor, while still using your laptop screen for other things; go into "System Settings" -> "Mission Control" -> Check the box for "Screens have separate spaces", and log out and in again on the mac. I have had my 2012 MacBook Pro 13" Unibody since it was new, where i guess the default was "fullscreen on separate dashboard", so the screen that does not have the fullscreen goes dark. I didn`t hink there was any way to fix this, and i couldn`t find any videos explaining it (looked around several times before). Naturally you would look around in display settings aso, but no... Thanks for the video. It kinda led me to realise where the solution had to be hiding.
Buying my first Macbook after being an windows user for 10 years almost. Thank you for such easy explanations. You got a new subscriber :) Pretty sure will use your videos a lot!
Windows has screen snapping/Window management right. Apple, in an effort to not be like Windows, has implemented this full screen+new space method, which really annoys people simply because it's not intuitive and not what people actually want to do when "maximizing" a window. I was certain Apple would eventually allow proper window maximizing in the same desktop and proper windows snapping without creating a new space with macOS Ventura... but no: They have this new "Stage Manager" gimmick which will further infuriate users. This Mac windowing dynamics make me feel paralyzed and awkward when trying to work on a Mac and I have been trying for more than a decade to get used to it, but to this day it annoys me. I have resorted to using "BetterSnapTool" but it is janky at times and doesn't have the fluidity of how Windows does it. I think the problem is Craig Federighi, for some reason he likes maximize+new desktop and it reluctant to either give users the option to TURN OFF new space creation and allow screen snapping without new space creation. He also was the man behind this "Stage Manager" which he thinks will be a 'revolutionary way to multitask on both iPad and MacOS". Wrong. Also if you really want to get full annoyed try this: Open an app/windows and go full screen on the Mac. It will create a new space with your window in fulll screen mode. THEN, lets say you want to use the calculator while in that full screen mode... hover over your dock, it appears... click the calculator.. .and it will open the calculator in your desktop and hide the app you were just working on in full screen mode. Essentially you can't have calculator open in a space other than your desktop! Unbelievable.
running Monterey and at one point I could drag a window to the top of the screen and it would resize to full screen. Can't remember what I did but I can't get that feature back again..
Very useful video. But is there any shortcut or gesture or mouse click to make split screen to be full screen only when playing video? Any shortcut or gesture or mouse click to make the window back to spilt screen position just after playing video?
Damn, 1:05 you need to keep pulling downwards after reaching the bottom of the screen to make that fing dock come up, that's what I have been trying to understand for days! Thanks
@@lachaussetteorpheline thanks.. but not exactly what we were looking for.. I meant full screen without actual full screen with the top bar blacking out
I have to same as a lifetime Windows user having a Mac issued by my employer and having heard for decades that Mac's are just simpler and more intuitive, I am well and truly. Windows is at least an order of magnitude better in this respect.
every video on Netflix TH-cam etc has black bars on top and bottom (including this one) I can't get rid of. I want full screen on my display please help!
Hey! Why the Frick is it not possible to set for all apps to default open in fullscreen?? Or is there??? It's so annoying! And btw, can't I set my Dock Bar to stay there all the time and never go away during full screen? Otherwise it takes agesss to always change the app. Thanks for your feedback!
hi is there a definitive and simple way to enter "full screen" without losing the tools bar at the top? It is supposed to be done through option green button but with some windows it only works through the bottom and does not give me a kind of "windows full screen mode". This is very annoying
hey! outta sudden i noticed that i cannot go on a full screen on facetime, there is a + icon that never goes so far! im helpless, can you help? i'd appreciate it!
When I record what I am doing I on full screen, on the recording I have a black bar (gap) going across the top, just can't get rid of it, even when I transfer the video to a windows PC, it is about an inch on the mac and .5 of an inch on a 24 monitor, don't have any of problems with windows recording full screen nor on my old windows laptop.
Hellooo I wanted to ask I spilt lemon and grass scent defused but very little on my Mac keyboard and acted very fast and it's working could it be dangerous
Does anybody actually use the fullscreen mode on Mac or do they just expand the window to fill the screen? I have my dock to hide and just make windows take up the whole screen apart from the menu bar at the top
Hello, thank you for this, it's very helpful. I have a question. I'm a first time mac user. I'm having a hard time minimizing my Facetime window, I have the same macbook pro with my friend and she's also wondering why I can't minimize it the same size with her facetime window. I can only make it larger but when I try to make the window smaller it just stuck in the medium size. I hope you can help me, I really need to fit a smaller window to the corner for better multitasking. Thank you. 😊
I think that's an actual limitation in how FaceTime works on the Mac... They might change that in the future but from what I am seeing you already got it to the smallest size it can go! - Lucas
I think you missed this very frustrating one. On Google browser I have various tabs with one open on the screen both on my Mac and my Windows laptops. On Windows I press F11 and the tab line, http line, Chrome favourite line disappear and I am left with the screen showing the open site on the whole screen. In Mac I press Control/Command/F keys as per manual and the three line are still there occupying a lot of space with a little 13.3 inch MacBook Air M2. Very, very poor, Apple!
Sounds like a Chrome thing not a Mac thing but I don't really understand what you're explaining... submit it as a feature request to Chrome team, or Apple! feedback.apple.com/
I bet you will learn a ton from my videos! Welcome to Mac! Did you find my windows to Mac video from a few years ago? That one is huge for people new to Mac.
@@lucasmacinhome no I haven’t found it 🙏🏻but I will watch it . Can you guide me which ones to watch or all of them 🤓gee definitely not as easy as iPad . There’s so much to learn 😫
100% ... but this full screen thing comes from Linux. It's common to have multiple virtual desktops in Linux. I used it often at my old dayjob... I was doing support for 3 companies. So I had three desktops and in each one I had the right browser and tabs for that company. So it makes sense in some use cases.
This is just absolute BS and totally un-intuitive. I was a windows user, yes. But, even if I wasn't, I don't think one could disagree that this whole split screen management on Mac is such time-waste, worthless, backward, un-intuitive logic! Total waste of time and a complete loss of productivity.
Does anybody have a problem with 3-finger swiping between workspaces, where it doesn't always focus the new window? It's really frustrating pressing a keyboard shortcut to close a tab, and it closes a tab in a different window 🫠

I notice that VLC lets us do this though... how can we make it work for Chrome?
I am less annoyed. Very insightful.

I think that comes from a third party plugin… I just double click the title bar at the top and it resizes nicely.
Wow, I had no idea! Thanks, Lucas
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!!
