9:24 it makes sense. It ends up looking kind of regal like those are crowns. Like a corona
The bouquet of knives? 😂
🤣 yes that part
Im doing the whole bonsai apt balcony thing 7 years and going now lol i still learned a lot in this video finally dyckia has its spotlight underrated plants !
That is awesome - happy to hear it was helpful and yes going to be doing more stuff focused on less "trendy" plants
Yesssss. Big Dyckia energy! I need a couple hundred of these.
You and me both! 🤣🤣
When you first picked up the plant at 10:20 seconds I thought you were picking up something out of a plastic pot and showing the root ball, that's a Grand Marnier hybrid I believe
Love to have one of those Dykeas.
Super cool! I want one
I'd love to have a big Dyckia😆 Thanks for introducing me to another interesting plant! Last summer I found your channel, commented I found the plants interesting to look at even though I didn't think they were my thing to own (something along those lines). By now I have 3 agave, about 20 cacti and can't enough of them! I just had seen so little and found out by watching your videos how much crazy cool stuff is out there. So another thanks, for taking us along on your visits. There are very little nurseries like this in The Netherlands
Do you know any in the NL?
@@JapanischErfahren Did a quick search because I had one seller in might who has a lot. Found his name, Otto Zeitler. I'd contact him
Absolutely beautiful! Nasty to deal with though!
Dyckia are mildly succulent. Probably less so than other xeric bromeliads like Hechtia. Great video. Thanks.
Your welcome glad you enjoyed it
He has a sea of dyckia, they look beautiful but they’ll stab you, great vid, thanks for sharing!!!
Yes they do 🤣 but they are really alluring if you have a good space for them
Thank you for this great information! I’ve had a few of these and love them!
You are so welcome!
Hell yeah those look awesome
couldn't agree more
Years ago, when kiddos were really
Young, I decided to try hard wax (like for leg waxing) to get a piece of glass out of a kiddo’s finger. Worked perfectly. I realized I could use it for cacti spines. It needs to be the hard wax but it works so well, especially for when you can’t find the spine.
wow that is a great idea especially for glochids
Awesome video 😊 I only have one Dyckia which is a Dyckia grand marnier & I love it. I am hoping to attempt this method to make it more aesthetically appealing.
Thank you very much for sharing this.
Excellent and informative vid! Have a few Dyckia’s & will do the same to them! Again wonderful vid!
I’m liking the haircuts. How often does he water? How often would they need water in San Diego, for example? Thanks.
in winter he waters about once a month trying to have it coincide with warmer sunnier days and in the warm season he waters about once a week.
Thanks@@CactusQuest
Nice video. I use bonsai branch cutters to do this on my potted agaves. They work well and cut across the leaf base more easily than scissors and save my fingers. I think they'd work well on these Dyckias
How can I buy your pots ? They are beautiful 🤩
Etsy sells beautiful dyckia plants.
It's like a echveria agave.
Great video, I've just got some Dyckia Brevifolia seeds which I'm hoping to germinate when the weather gets a bit warmer. I like the idea of doing bonsai on them as I'm space limited, let's hope I can get a few to germinate and grow to a decent size!
Good luck! Im sure you'll do great. From what John was telling me they are pretty easy to grow from seed and tend to be pretty bullet proof from my experience although I have yet to try them from seed
I saw an article state that the leaves can be propagated. Is this so?
not sure, that's a great question I think we need a follow up video w him - ill ask
I want one of his hybrids but I’m in Texas
dude im gonna auction a little one of today at 5 on ig w gtnursery
@@CactusQuest sadly it’s my girls bday I won’t be watching the auction. But I’ll dm you on insta

I saw a similar triming technique in older leuchtenbergia. It also look interesting
