    One other cool thing no one is talking about? is that if you get the ES, then you get 6 months free Studio One +, BUT by buying another 6 month of + it becomes a Perpetual license! Pretty good deal I think. Did not try it myself yet but will order an ES soon :) Got the info from Rick Naqvi who is VP of sales on Fender :)

    I think the latency questions is why have Presonus abandoned the low latency architecture of the original line of Quantum interfaces? My Quantum 2626 has a round trip latency of exactly 1ms at 96khz, 32 samples. Compare that to the 3.28ms of the new Quantum interface in this video and the questions is why have Presonus abandoned the most compelling feature of the Quantum interfaces?
    Okay, the new ones have better converters (allegedly) and better preamps (allegedly) but you'd expect those on updated model. But speed was the one thing that made the Quantum interfaces so special, and which meant you didn't need any kind of DSP mixer or UC routings.
    That's what gave the Quantum interfaces and Studio One such a powerful workflow.
    It's hugely disappointing.

      Don't forget daisy chaining support of the thunderbolt version. This should not have been called quantum, it should have been a new series, and they should have re-designed the quantum series. The 4848 was really impressive, and priced well below any competitor, even if they would have to increase the price somewhat. Sure they probably did not sell as well as they were hoping, but you have to give the products time, for the reputation to grow.

      @blindogt หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but honestly this just doesn't sit well. As a PC user, Thunderbolt currently works well for me, and my OG Quantum has been an amazing piece of kit, but I know it's going to be problematic when I need to upgrade my machine and TB4+ will be all that's available on future motherboards. A transition to USB for compatibility's sake is probably a decent move, but when the new model's latency figure is that much higher than the older interface, this fact needs to be readily disclosed. Because it does matter. If it didn't matter then the original Quantum's marketing, "With a barely measurable round trip latency of less than 1 ms*" and even the product line name, which was based specifically on the latency figures being so low, was disingenuous. So, assuming the latency difference does matter, keeping that name, while only disclosing the latency figures now on a boutique TH-cam channel feels like they had something unpleasant to hide. I love Gregor's videos, I've been a steady Presonus customer for almost 2 decades now, and I want them to succeed, but this stuff should be unobfuscated on the product page so that people know what they're getting, and how to best spend the limited money they have.

    • @bigstewdio
      @bigstewdio หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@blindogt pretty sure they had already disclosed latency figures because I commented on the product launch video with Marcus Huyskens (another name you probably know if you've been following Presonus for a while). However, where that video, and to a greater extent this video, irritate me is their attempt to gaslight their customers into thinking that these new interfaces are low latency. They're not. Even for USB, RME are faster and compared to the original Quantum interfaces, which used Thunderbolt, they are in a different league.
      And the reason it matters is because the workflow that those original Quantum interfaces allowed without the need for any kind of DSP mixer or special routing requires very low latency.
      However, where this video particularly annoys me is using a latency figure based on a 96Khz sample rate which is going to be about half the latency you get with 48Khz. That is deliberately misleading because most latency figures are given at 48Khz. It's not a rule, but that's the default and I can't remember any interface video leading with a number based on 96Khz.
      I think Gregor is a good guy, and his tips and tricks over the years have been invaluable, so he knows exactly the trick he's trying to pull here and I bet he hates himself for it.

      This new line of quantum interfaces are a bit confusing to me. The old Quantum thunderbolt units had no onboard DSP or real routing but had incredible RTL. It allowed for a workflow where all monitoring is done through the DAW using plugins (I use two 26x32’s, daisy chained).
      The new lineup seems to have moved away from this type of workflow, and the RTL is substantially worse. Do the new quantum’s have onboard DSP? What if I am tracking vocals, and want to apply some eq or compression to the monitoring path? How do I do that without having something in the order of 6 ms of latency at 48 kHz, which might be unacceptable to the singer?
      If you are going to have average latency in your interface, you probably need to provide hardware monitoring and some DSP in the interface.
      Am I not understanding something here?

    • @bigstewdio
      @bigstewdio หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@greenloungerecording9362 It's only confusing because Presonus have used the Quantum name but these are fundamentally different to the original Quantum interfaces.
      Everything you say is spot on, just ignore the Quantum name.

    Gregor, greetings.
    Tell me one thing.
    Made 30 tracks for the musical. but now I want to collect them into one single project.
    So that each of the tools is the same for all projects, one large one and a half hour sausage.
    How can I combine many projects with minimal losses?
    The problem comes with the tempo track.
    When I add data from another project, the tempo track is overwritten.

    Does the HD version mix in standalone mode too? That it would work as a simple ipad controlled mixer when I've no computer attached. That would make me sell my Zoom Livetrak and switch to the HD.

    Why won't you guys ever answer my question when it comes to being able to use the ES line (preferrable the ES 4), as an interface with Standalone systems, such as the MPC One, MPC Live and MPC Key 37? They have the capabilities of recording vocals but require Audio Interfaces? I'd love to give the ES 4 a try with my MPC Key 37 Workstation, but I need to know if I can even use it for the vocals, AND, will I lose the pre-amp/ auto-gain capabilities with clipping reduction, when using it with my Standalone Workstation? PLEASE help me out here. I just need to know that.

    Hi Gregor
    This is not related to this video. The issue I face is that, in the mastering page, the output (WAV) audio quality is significantly inferior to the audio quality that comes while playing the same song through Studio One 5. I did a real time output. Am I missing anything?
    I opened a service ticket but the service was crappy and no solution was provided other than some FAQs.

    Been all over TH-cam and internet trying to find a setup using the Quantum HD8 as master unit and (2) addtional 8 preamps for the total of 24 mic channels and getting the benefit of the latency improvement of the HD8.... right now I have a Focusrite 18i20 as master and a Clarette+ Octopre into the ADAT of the 18i20... Octopre is clock master to give me 16 mic channels; setup is easy, but if I get the HD8 and want to hook up the 18i20 and Clarette+ as my additional 16 channels, do I set the HD8 as external clock or ADAT clock and then plug the ADAT out of each unit into ADAT Input 1 and Input 2? Do I need to use BNC clock? Went through the manual and usually they show you specific setup graphic for this.

    • @OscarDanielGarza
      @OscarDanielGarza หลายเดือนก่อน

      BNC is usually best and you can make the HD 8 the source for clock or have it sync to external through BNC using the global settings screen on the HD 8.

      @@OscarDanielGarza I don't disagree, but really need to know if clock can be taken via ADAT lightpipe... my Clarette+ OctoPre had BNC in and out; my 18i20 only had BNC out. Called sweetwater yesterday to see if there is clear path to how to do this. Still no clear, confirmed answer... is there ANYBODY out there with existing 2 8pre interfaces connecting to the HD8 for 24 inputs and if so, HOW!!! Pictures! Diagrams! Something CONFIRMED! Really don't want to buy this, get it here, screw around with my gear to find out it DOES not work as described. Thanks in advance!!

    I understand that the inclusion of Studio One + with a perpetual license is a great enticement to purchase this interface. But for those of us who already have S1+ or Professional there is really no bundle enticement at all. Hope they rethink this approach. I am a big fan of S1 Pro but why would I spend a thousand bux for the interface just to stay in the Presonus ecosystem when competitors with comparable products bundle them with hundreds of dollars worth of some fine plug-ins, most of which I don't already own.

    96khz 32 samples block size? Is that how people really record?

    • @TheJonHolstein
      @TheJonHolstein หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No, of course not. Any reasonable answer would include a list of 48KHz as well as several of block sizes. This was just an attempt to pretend the performance is better than it actually is. It is sad to see them do this with the quantum line. They should have launched a new series, as well as updating the quantum thunderbolt line. The old quantums allowed for daisy chaining, to add more channels and had much better latency performance. I get that presonus might feel the need for an USB-c line, since thunderbolt support is a mixed bag on windows computers. This does not have a particularly low latency, despite claims of custom drivers.

    Hi, when I want to use my Quantum HD8 in standalone, I don't get any output. I must connect the unit to my laptop USB with Universal Control installed to "unlock" the output. I can then unplug the unit and it will stay in that same state as long as don't switch it off. Is there another way to use the HD 8 as standalone without being plugged to an USB PC (or Mac) or is this feature could be implemented in a future firmware update?
