A mass casualty incident was declared late Saturday night after a power tornado ripped the the southern part of Valley View, TX and then crossing I-35 to strike a gas station.
I think the cruelest joke is a tornado at night. Even with all the warning if you are sleep or as these people were traveling at night you can't see it coming. My condolences to the families.
Yup slept right through a tornado warning the other night.
Teach those who sleep or travel when they know there's going too be a tornado
The cruelest joke here was that most of the outbreak was supposed to happen 4 hours earlier and die out by this point. Then it went and decided not to do that
People need to stay weather alert. I stay up so my family can sleep just in case we have to evacuate the area
That's when a weather alert radio would be helpful.
The road that crosses I-35 there is Lone Oak Road. My friend lives two houses from an intersection of West Lone Oak and he lost his house. He is OK, but there was a 12 year old girl that lives across the street from him and she suffered a broken back. I was talking to his brother-in-law on the phone and he said it was "total devastation".

The number of communities destroyed and severely damaged by tornadoes in the last few weeks is shocking. So much help needed in so many communities. It's kind of shocking that there are so many.
Why is global climate change and its effects on the United States shocking? It's not as if we haven't been warned since the mid 1970s that this was going to happen and it would only continue to get worse and worse if we refused to do anything about reducing carbon emissions. Well, now we the not rich folks of the world are paying the price, and will continue to pay the price.

@jannibal9273 The number of tornadoes per year has dropped since 2004. 2004 was the peak and an anomaly.
What's increased is people living in suburbs or in smaller towns outside of metros which means that it's humans putting themselves more spread out and thus increase the chance of SOME ONE, even if it's a few, getting hit.
None of these tornadoes are like Joplin. We haven't had an EF5 in years. And we are nowhere near 1800 twisters in one season like in '04.
We are still in an Ice Age. It's officially terminating now, but none the less let me remind you - WE ARE STILL IN AN ICE AGE. You're panicking over crap like Christian soccer moms panicked over Doom games in the 1990s. Stop it.
Every year, this happens. Every year, people get hit. Every year, people continue to choose to live out more in the open country because they're tired of the crowded cities, their expensive taxes, and their bad political policies.
Every year, that means more and more people are in the path of tornadoes.
It's not shocking at all, and it's not because it's some sort of apocalypse either. The medieval warm period was much warmer than we are now, and mankind boomed because the warmer things got, the more rain fell and the more fauna flourished, making more food and with more food, Civilization blossomed.
There's such thing as getting too hot, yes, but none of you people seem to understand that we are thousands of years or more away from ever seeing a climate so hot that everything dies.

So terrifying how this can even happen. I mean the chances of getting hit at night are so low but yet it happened. Tornados are so scary with how random, unpredictable, and deadly they are.

Night time tornadoes are the most deadly type since you can't see them coming and without advanced warning it's probably too late. So sad. There's also something creepy about seeing the cars headlights and emergency vehicles are the only lights for miles around with destruction all around them.
There was nowhere to run or hide, no underground emergency shelter at that camp site.

Over 750 Tornadoes in less than 5 months. 265 over 16 days during the end of April to the beginning of May. Tornadoes on the ground and the National Weather Service not issuing confirmation warnings, while independent operators were. One of them saying and i quote "Come on what is it going to take" I don't know about anyone else, but i would have been asking questions a long time ago. Im not a fan of seeing people die and livelihoods being destroyed so frequently

@@kattmilki couldn't agree more. The scariest part about it all, is that there is a well documented and highly informative 80 year history available for anyone to see. They have even openly told everyone that they can play with anything they want, including changing the temperature of the ionosphere. The weather service failing to make or upgrade warnings properly is something that seems to happens somewhat commonly in Texas for some reason. I've storm chased in the state quite a bit and after the first few times I couldn't help but be flabbergasted by how often there would be an obvious, telegraphed tornado on the ground with no tornado warning at all. Nobody is perfect and the NWS in other states does make mistakes sometimes, but in Texas it is on a whole other level. I'm surprised the people of Texas put up with it when this is the sort of thing that gets people hurt or worse.
Sending all the affected by this tragic event my most sincere sympathies, prayers for uplifting of spirits, healing, speedy recovery and peace.

Only going to get worse
I was driving home from work last night and as I passed through Grapevine, Texas, this huge black cloud just suddenly covered the whole area and the sky got so dark that all the street lights came on. That was around 8:15. This time of year, it doesn't normally get that dark until almost 9:00 p.m. Grapevine is about 45 - 50 miles south of where this happened, but I knew when I saw that cloud roll in like that, something was going on somewhere in the vicinity. I did not know that the cloud cover could extend that far outward from a storm like that.
Here in Houston the same thing, there was this dark cloud with wind and lightning inside the storm, like a dark bubble moving with everything inside it and making the day night.
This didn't happen until 10:30pm. Not even the same storm.
@@missourimoons Most likely what I saw was from the same storm system though. The heavy cloud cover had been moving through the area for some time yesterday afternoon. I saw a report of a tornado that had touched down at 7:40 p.m. (in the same vicinity as the one that went through at 10:45) and assumed that what I saw was part of the same storm. And now the National Weather Service has confirmed that this same system produced tornados all the way from Texas, through Oklahoma, and into Arkansas. That was no small, isolated storm system.
Wow...I used to fuel up at that station. The building looks like everything was sucked out the front. God bless all those affected.

I noticed a tornado shelter company near there on the map. Do residents have shelters? From what I understand, basements aren’t built in TX.
I think not building basements has to do with the soil, same for underground shelters. My husband who used to live outside Austin told me about that. I don't know the alternative but he said with tornado warnings they had to go to a bathroom in the middle of the house.

AccuWeather App will provide real time alerts based on the coordinates of her phone. Radio calls out alerts by County, so this really helps out when traveling through new areas.

No, the Kane Pixels videos depict the demolished Valley View Mall in North Dallas. There's also a Valley View Lane in Farmers Branch/Northwest Dallas. This happened about 50 miles north of Dallas. I'm sure both names were inspired by the town of Valley View though

@@P_RO_ Any event that overwhelms the resources of the responding agency can be a declared a mass casualty. Declaring an MCI, you can request mutual aid from surrounding areas and state resources from TDEM or the RAC.
I suggest you attend as mass casualty training event so you understand them better. Our local first responders hold one at a small airport near me. It gives the public a chance to see what happens and gives the emergency teams a chance to work together. It's very interesting.
Phirebird: retired RN here. Yes this WAS a local "mass casualty event". More than 5 dead, some missing, 80+ injured. YOU CANNOT TAKE 80 PEOPLE TO THE SAME HOSPITAL ER - they have to be triaged then shipped to various hospitals. It does not have to be thousands or millions of people to be legally labeled as a "mass casualty".

You are correct. Just after the first of the year, an elderly man came up to me at my place of employment. He looked at my name tag and said the following to me. Rich I am going to tell you something, you don’t have to believe me if you want to. He said the year 2024 is going to be the year of the weather. With very extreme and violent weather. From tornadoes and hurricanes and extreme heat, record high temperatures. He said God is very angry with us, how we treat one another. And he walked away. It sent shivers up and down my spine. From what he said to me, and this is was back in January. And I see what is happening now in May alone, with the weather. And I think back what he told me. I believe this is only the beginning.
