Taking out the ECU from a 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 Star Venture or Star Eluder requires removal of several parts and around 20 fasteners.
    Tools needed:
5 mm Allen wrench and/or socket
4 mm Allen wrench and/or socket
    10 mm wrench or socket
    Phillips screwdriver
3 mm or smaller Allen wrench or similar device (for trim push-pin removal)

Thanks for this video. I had the same issue as another because I have the fog lights, but no issue. Actually mine came out easier than yours. Easier getting the ECU back in. In fact, I pushed it mostly back in place then connected the harness. Got the ECU back from Ivan 5 days from when I sent it.

Great job on the video, no "blahblahblah". Took me longer to find my 5mm socket hex than to complete the job.

Great video. Just removed mine but had the additional headache that I have the LED driving lights which use the top bolt that holds the back wall. Required me to remove that light to get the bolt out. I also didn't have the play in the cables that would allow me to wiggle the ECU enough to get it out. I had to also remove the front bolt holding on the ECU retainer. That gave the room to get it out over the bottom ledge. Putting that screw back will be fun. lol Thanks again for the video!!

Great video, I have just a minute left. But I love the part where you said "through the magic of video editing," as you continued to struggle to get the EDU!

Thanks for making this video, What a pain in the ass. They didn't make it easy. I want to send mine to Ivan but dread doing this. I had him flash my Vaquero; and man you just remove the seat and there it is. Oh well, this is very helpful. Thanks again.

Thank you for this video. I followed it to a T and just got my ECU back from Ivan. He said you would know what size hole saw to use when removing the block plates in the stock mufflers. Do you remember what size it was? I was going to just assume that it's the biggest one that will fit loosely down the tube. Thanks in advance.

      Glad it helped!
I used a 1-5/8” (41mm) Lenox bi-metal hole saw with Milwaukee 12” long 3/8” Hex Shank Extension to carefully drill out the baffle plates.

Question, were you removing the ECU for demonstration purposes, or did you have an ECU problem?

Hi Karl, to be clear I didn’t replace the ECU. No issues with the unit itself.

I had the same question....1)Why did you need to remove the ECU ? Were you doing some kind of power enhancements/tuning or something ? 2) I blew the fuse on my 12v accessories outlet . It seems from my internet research that the fuse box, for that fuse, is located in that same area. Can you confirm that ? There is no Yamaha service shop in my county so I'll have to change it myself.

How did your bike run after Evans tune

  • @RealSuperRando

What a nightmare. Clearly a bike that wasn’t designed to be easily serviceable. Would be nice to take the tank off first but that’s another nightmare.

  • @RealSuperRando

Thanks for the detailed video, great job. But I have to say, what an engineered mess this bike is. To go through all that just to get to the ECU. I had one for 1 year and have had all those parts off. Couldn’t trade it and get back on a Harley fast enough. I take off my seat on my Road Glide and there’s my ECU. Just unplug and remove. Not that I need to because of the multitude of tuning options available just by plugging it in to my PC.
