It probably is done all the time but I didn't see it anywhere and it works SEW cool. I found using a Dry Erase marker for marking on clear or any vinyl for that matter works fantastic. Just wipes right off after you cut your piece. Let me know what you think and if this is something already in practice. Thank you so much for your time.
Yes wonder clips amazing but if you do get needle or pin marks ..lay a cloth over your vynil or faux leather and press just for a few seconds this causes the material to melt and fill in the holes don't press for too long as you will melt them
I've tried putting tape on the bottom of a standard foot. I didn't notice any difference, so I think next time I get around to vinyl I'll just go ahead and invest in a walking foot.
Use wax paper or butter paper that is used for cookies, etc. Put one beneath and another one on the top. Or stick a piece o scoth tape underneath the foot. I prefer the wax paper. Buy at walmart cheap and a lot yards.
For some reason I can't get a single stitch into the PVC boots I'm working on. It's quite thick and takes a bit to pierce (2 layers) and when the needle comes up, the thread just comes out. I'm using a leather needle 100/16

I have a couple questions I would appreciate very much any help/assistance: I am trying to sew vinyl (outdoor material) that is not as soft/flexible - somewhat stiff but still foldable. Would it require using heavier/special thread? And if so, do I use it on the top and bottom? i have heard to just use it in the bobbin/bottom. Could you also explain: does the bigger number of the needle size refer to the hole the needle makes (perforates) on to the material, or the needle hole the thread goes through? Again, many thanks for any/all help!
I've been searching online for tips on what tension I should use for thick vinyl. I have a big issue where thread bunches at the bottom of the fabric as I am sewing and I've read that it's because I don't have it set to the right tension. Any advice?
It really depends on the machine. Use scraps and experiment. You want to make sure the threads are locking between the layers of fabric. If you are seeing the bottom thread on the top, loosen your top tension. If you see the top thread on the bottom, tighten the top tension. Don't bother messing with your bobbin tension, ever, for regular sewing. The only time you should mess with bottom tension is if you are using very thick yarn in the bottom (not usual for most home sewers). Hope this helps. Every machine and fabric is particular... So it's always good to test and test on scraps before you sew on your project. The concept is the same for every type of fabric... You want the threads locking between the layers of fabric in most sewing situations.
If you have thread bunching on the bottom, it's a problem with your top thread... First, check to make sure you haven't missed a step or two in the threading of the machine (I always check the take-up lever first). If it is all threaded properly, then your tension is probably too loose if you are getting bunching on the bottom. It's pulling too much of the top thread thru to the bottom. The higher the number on you tension, the more tension it is putting on your thread. (5 is higher tension than 2). Another thing to make sure you are doing correctly is how you have your spool set up of the type of wind the spool. Usually if the spool is wound diagonally, you want the spool sideways. Also make sure the thread is coming off the spool the correct direction for your make of machine. After all of that, if you are still not happy with thread bunching... You should probably take the machine to the shop and have them adjust the timing. I think it's probably one of the above issues though.
Hi, I want to make a simple rectangle vinyl bag with self fabric fringe trim. What type of vinyl would you recommend for this? I'd like for it to have some texture like leather, but not leather's price! I would appreciate any help you could give!
I'm making pillow covers from vinyl -- do you have any tips for inserting a zipper? There is welting, too, so that means three sets of stitching for the one side, two for the welting and one for the second side. How do I keep the vinyl from splitting with all these needle holes going into it?
With vinyl, you want to increase your stitch length. Stitches too close together will just perforate the fabric making it easily rip at the seam. By using a longer stitch length, you will eliminate that issue. We have a couple of different zipper tutorials, as well as one on welting. I think you will find them helpful. If you go to our channel and use the search field, it will easily pull up different results. I hope this helps. :)

You sure can; however, you will want to use a leather needle.
