This is my favorite way to make straps, but I cut my fabric strip a little narrower so the vinyl shows a tiny bit along the sides. It looks very high-end.
Thank you for all these tips videos. They are very informative. I have tried your method of assembling straps and I find having the fabric side against my shoulder makes the strap more slippery so I use the vinyl side. And nowadays, instead of adding fabric to vinyl, I tried using a 7/8 in. strip of cork fabric and this works really well as cork is not slippery.
Thank you for this video it is exactly what I was looking for. I'm making a diaper bag and wanted to use vinyl for the straps but it was going to be to thick so this will do the trick.
Oh wow two of my absolute favorite instructors on YT...Tock and FK!! Thank you for teaching so well!! You two should do a collab vid-that would be fun to watch! ❤️❤️
Thank you for this! Is faux leather the same thickness as vinyl? I want to try a tote back with quilting cotton and faux leather but not sure which would be better for the project.
Fierce Kittenz i newly have a Juki 1181n. I use it for camping gear I make for work. I want to use my new machine in my ‘fun sewing/bag making ‘. What thread do you use and what size needle?
Which tape would you use to make a cork bag strap? Would you need to sew another layer to it or is just one layer of cork with the sides folded in onto tape enough?
If you're making a pure cork strap, you'd have to fold in the raw edges to the center, then fold again to enclose them. If you're combining the fabric with cork, just use a 1/2" leather tape.
I am making a bag where the straps are sewn into the side of the bags. Not my personal fav way of doing it but hey thats the pattern. Would this idea still work?
Do you mean at the ends? These days I use belt tips for 1" straps that covers them up. Otherwise, you have to fold each raw end in toward each other to hide them.
@@fiercekittenz Good to know, thank you very much. I just worry about the ends being too bulky with folding them in towards each other. Great tutorial.
This is a great tutorial - thanks. I want to ask about the overhead camera set up (?) My granddaughter wants to learn to sew but lives 6 hours away - this looks like the solution! Can you tell me what you're using?
Hi thanks for video. have you actually tried to put this thickness through the slide adjuster? and does it fit and slide through?. this has been a perennial problem for me.
@@connienatale7886 Yeah :( Too much so sometimes. It is partially why I haven't been able to upload videos reliably. I do want to upload on a reliable schedule for subscribers, but it's HARD! I also live stream 4x a week on Twitch.
Oh this is an oooold video. I 100% agree, which is why I don't do this anymore with anything recorded from 2020 and beyond! I was so new to how to do tutorials on YT.
Your videos are super polished and direct. Love it!

So are you putting fabric on top and vinyl on the bottom for the strap?
have I mentioned how much I love yer videos?

I've always been so timid to use cork. Suppliers can be sketchy with the quality sometimes.
Thank you for sharing all the tips on making a strap.

Damnit! Why didn't you tell me you made TH-cam tutorials too? Thank you for putting this video up! Looks super polished :)

great video. thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I thought I knew how to do it, but you confirmed how to do this strap. 😁❤
Do you not put fusible interfacing on the fabric? If not, why? Love your videos!

Faux Leather is vinyl.
@@fiercekittenz ahh thanks!
Thank you for this video. Please tell me the brand of leather tape you are using. I am trying to find it on Amazon.
Doesn't appear to have a brand name to it, but here's the link! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BPWSEQS/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I get mine from Wawak .. it will hold a zipper in place on a leather coat so you can stitch it
Fierce Kittenz i newly have a Juki 1181n. I use it for camping gear I make for work. I want to use my new machine in my ‘fun sewing/bag making ‘. What thread do you use and what size needle?
Wawak has leather tape they get it to you in about 2day
What weight thread do you use for your straps.. regular sewing thread or something like topstitch thread?
On my industrial, I use Tex 69 bonded poly thread. That's what I mostly work on; however, if I'm on a domestic, normal sewing thread.
can I get the full name of the tape you used because I am not finding it on Amazon. What I am finding is for scrapbooking.
I have a question ? ….. can you join Vynol strips for a strap this way ???

Yes. You will probably want to turn up the raw ends though.

Hi. Did your Juki come with that plate with the measurements?
No. I purchased this one off Ebay.

The overhead camera is hooked into a webcam arm: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074P29LLM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not if I do all vinyl. It definitely won’t slide through :( the fabric + vinyl works great though!
@@fiercekittenz thanks for your reply. that's what I forgot to clarify, thanks trying it today!

What is that annoying sound in the ack ground its so distracting sorry
Oh that's the music I chose. The style is called "chiptune." It was a poor choice and I don't use it anymore. Sorry!
Its the same song that's used in this ant simulator game I play
Why do you have that weird calliope music going on? It's very distracting in an otherwise excellent video.
