GHOST SHRIMP: How to FIND & SALT!

- Ghost shrimp is the king of surf fishing baits along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Usually if the fish won't eat ghost shrimp then you might as well pack up and call it a day. But somedays aren't easy to find ghost shrimp so in this video I'm salting some to preserve them and I also show you how to find ghost shrimp and keep them alive over night so you have fresh live ghost shrimp to use surf fishing the next day.

For the best conservation of this bait it is necessary to use: Sea Water, Coarse iodized sea salt and you will need a plastic bottle to dilute the Coarse Salt with Sea Water.
Preparation: Place the Sea Water and Coarse Salt in the plastic bottle and stir until the Coarse Salt is diluted, forming a brine.
Afterwards, place the desired amount of bait in the bottle with the brine.
Wrap the carcass with newspaper or other paper you have, then place it in the freezer.
This way it lasts between: 1 to 2 months without losing the color, appearance and properties of the bait, ok?

I'm from San Diego, Ca we have tons of ghost shrimps here at dog beach in Ocean Beach between Mission Bay park and (San Diego River: Fresh water estuary that runs out to open ocean) near Sea World Park and are abundant to pump out all year round, our daily total bag is 50 pcs. Every fish even fish that are veggie types will snack on these, and we prefer them live using magic string to hold them on a small 4' bait holder hooks. The best places to catch any of these ghost shrimp are in muddy smelly estuaries where , maybe fresh water mix in salt water from small river to out open ocean on low tides.

I use salted shrimp and salted clams. I’m about to try salting some scallops I got at the Asian market
Im definitely tempted to salt just about any bait and try it.

Im a former Hoosier myself! Hopefully you tear them up when you get down. My back is keeping me at home for awhile but hoping to be fishing again in a week or so.
I was born a raised a Hoosier, just moved to the Pensacola area last month, saltwater fishing is a whole new ballgame for me
I'm going to try it to preserve them longer
Im gonna freeze the other live ones I had since my back is still messed up and its gonna be a couple more days until I can get out and go.

Been seeing them gets wasted and abused in northeast florida after I shared a few videos about them. Been seeing a lot of people over harvesting them and throwing away what they don’t use smh

I wonder if a 2nd, 3rd, 4th day in dry salt again each day would toughen them up a little more????🤔
They will be sitting in the salt for at least a couple more days until my back can handle fishing.

Can they be found anywhere?
I know they are in a lot of places along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts.
How did that fish?
They worked just fine, I don’t know if its worth salting them because they don’t get much more firm.
I use 50% sea water and 50% metholated spirits for preserving these.
