In the preview he's trying to enter a parenting class where the instructor states that the class is for new mother's. He then states that the sign says parents and that his child doesn't have a mother. It really sets the tone of how dad's are treated when being around their kids, like they're babysitting or doing the mom a favor when it's their responsibility as parents to do these things naturally.

    Being a single mom myself, it can be extremely difficult. The point though is being a single parent is hard regardless of being a single dad or mom. I do think though that society tends to lean more to helping a single mothers than a father which is sad. I think it’s extremely brave and extraordinary for a father to raise a child/ children alone because as was said there’s not a lot of programs for single fathers. They do tend to have to work harder to get some sort of support. That being said, I think a father can give as much support as a mother can because being a parent we try to do our best to nurture and raise our child the best we can. I highly respect single parents especially single fathers who took that role to be the best they can be for their child. Not a lot of men that I’ve known would’ve took in that responsibility. Thank you for making such an informative video and I hope through this it will spread awareness and single fathers can get more help as they need it just as much as single mothers.
    Please tell these fathers that they’re not alone and what they’re doing is amazing and I’m sure their children not only respect and rely on you, but also have unconditional love because they know that they have a parent that will do anything for them.

    I actually was being raised by a single father in my early childhood. Even though I am not from Japan, it was still hard for my dad to support us (I have 2 siblings). Germany and most other countries are way behind and dont support single fathers at all. I appreciate all single dads, you are doing a good job!

    • @6Kubik
      @6Kubik 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      True. People might think europe is more open minded but thats not really the case. If your parents get a divorce it is often expected in germany that the mother will take care of the child and the court often gives the child to the mother, even if the father would be a better choice. and becoming a single parent in germany leads very likely to poverty. and if one parent does not pay child support, nobody gives a fuck and helps the single mother/father.

What I like to say: thank you all single parents around the world! You made us who and how we are. It's really unfair how single dad's who are really doing their best are met with such prejudice.
    Any single parent really. They have a big challenge in front of them as it is. It's so unecessary to add to their troubles by being prejudiced towards them.
    Help them if you can. Give them some praise or words of encouragement if you can't. It's really not that difficult.

    I grew up with both parents, but my mom grew up with a single mother and she also raised 5 of my cousins too when she was a teenager. With a little bit of help from her siblings of course, but mostly its my Mom who took care of them. My Mom had to raise 5 of my cousins because her sister became a teenage Mom and kept on eloping with my uncle and leaving them with my Mom. My 5 cousins see my Mom as their Mom. I can't imagine all the hardships she went through growing up with a single Mom and raising 5 kids....I love and respect my Mom so much! ❤ No matter how many times we argue I'll always love her! ❤

    All these fathers are very insightful. Yoshiki's advice to always be open and honest with his kids, even when he's feeling negative emotions, is spot on. I think men in general are taught to bottle things up and never show vulnerability or be open about their struggles, but it's especially so in Japan. So it's honestly refreshing to hear him say that without hesitation. I'm sure his two kids will grow up feeling loved and supported. It looks like the three of them have a very happy family together. :)

    I don't think that's only in Japan but every where in the world. We have sessions for women help them get mental support which is VERY rare when it comes to men. Society wants men to be self dependent and be "MEN", but still thinks equality is when men and women are treated equally. Out of context..... I was at an interview a few years back and it was a group discussion round and the topic was women empowerment..... The organizers said they believe in equality and always let the females interviewees go first at which point I asked "even if the male was the first to arrive?" They said yes and I said it sounded more like a privilege than equality..... I didn't clear the round 🤣

    Regardless of the gender of the caregiver or the circumstances under which they became a single parent, being a single parent is a really hard process. However, Nobita has once again highlighted one of the "hidden" aspects of Japanese society - one that I feel ties in with other issues he has explored, such as rigid gender roles, toxic work culture, and the "shame culture" that causes those who need support to not seek assistance. Each country will have its own particular cultural and social manifestations of these issues - but thank you once again. Nobita, for exploring a subject that deserves to be talked about more.

    This is so sad! Single parents should be entitled to the same rights and help whether they are mothers or fathers. There should be no discrimination in this case. Parenting is hard in all cases. I have 3 daughters who grew up with both parents and I know how hard it can be at times, even when there are 2 parents trying to juggle work and home life. Single parenting is very hard for whoever gets to look after the children.

    Anywhere being a single Dad is hard.
    I've got mine (best Dad ever), but I watch my friends with their children trying to cope with how people treat them, as if men were not up to the task of being a parent alone.
    I've heard from one friend he had the cops called on him for taking his son to the local park. It's not fair that fathers are treated like this.
    I hope for a future with equal rights when it comes to parenting children, that the father gets as much help and rights if he has to be a single parent. Men need this. Children need this more.

    I had both parents growing up. My mom was the practical one,and my UK born father was hopelessly inept at many "female" tasks. He could burn water.
    On the other hand, he was my enabler and partner in crime. I appreciate that more now than I did then. It really doesn't matter that he couldn't cook or do laundry or that he never learned. Kids forget that stuff. He kept the washer washing, and the cars running. Better yet, he taught me how to do it. It was the 1960's, and he believed girls could do anything they chose.
    He was endearing in his ineptitude. Once he wanted to buy a bathrobe for my mom, and I picked out a fuzzy yellow one. He tried it on in the middle of the store so I could see it.
    Kids don't care if the parent only knows how to microwave food. The other intangible stuff is what matters. The dads in the video might not model yellow bathrobes, but they obviously love their kids and that's what those kids will remember in 60 years.

    I think the policy should only focus on the situation of people, but not separate by gender. Sometimes, the myth "Men are supposed to work only" in someway create burden and pressure for both female and male. It might applicable in the past, while women education level was low or basically they did not go to school and only stay home to take care family. Nowadays, both men and woman are taking equal effort and investing in study. They can equally work and support each other in financial and parenting. Why this out-of-date myth still exist. It could be one of the reason lead to high divorce rate and low marriage rate in Japan Y.Y. What an unfair for those single dad and the woman neither

    • @arumba7345
      @arumba7345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reasons why divorce rates are so damn high is simply the bonding structures are messed up between men and woman and the fact that the expectations of social structures between men and woman are now becoming less natural and more fictionized.

I especially liked the first dad, who in the end said he presents his emotions to his kids honestly, no matter if they're "positive or negative". Children can respect their parents and still understand that they are human and have issues outside of being a parent. Thank you Nobita. Your videos are always enlightening. I started noticing how much trouble he was having around around age 7 or so compared to all my friends with a mother and father. As I'm older now (32) I respect how difficult and hard it was on him and yet he still tried to make the best of it just being me and him. We eventually moved to USA because he had a sister (my aunt) here in Atlanta, GA and thought it might be a better life for us. Every girl needs a father and every boy needs a mother, to learn and feel specific qualities. Many girls grow up without a father and they become bad people. Nobita, maybe you can create a community for these single dad's? might help them and also their children can meet other kids to play with. Just a idea. thanks for the video.

    being apart of a broken family and being stuck with a POS father. This warms my heart for fathers who stood up to the plate for their children. much love

    An incredible video, Nobita.
    As a single dad, I feel more motivated. I also feel I learned a few things from this. Thank you

    I hope that single fathers in Japan try to actively seek out each other to form groups/communities to help each other out. Wouldn't it be cool if they could all hang out together and their kids hang out with each other! I hope you get the support you need guys!
