  • This 20-minute acrylic painting demo focuses on edges. Soft and hard edges make for a compelling cloudy sky.

Thank you Mike, the technique used in your demos have been very informative and helpful. I'll definitively
apply them in my next art projects.

Dear Mike, I deeply admire your work, you are definitely one of my favourite canadian artists! i have watched most of your videos and find them very informative, however i watched a number of acrylic artists paint in the same approach as you do. Specifically laying out all the colors of your palette and mixing from there.
I live in Edmonton Alberta and i find this approach next to impossible. If i lay out my full palette for instance in less then 10 minutes my dollops of paint form a hard crust or are fully dry by the time i need to use them, its so frustrating.
The problem is the paint drys so fast here! especially in the winter when the humidity is so low, and the furnace is running on high, or in the summer painting in my garage, again the breeze so hot and dry.
I have tried using retarder on my dollops, which helps a bit, but surprisingly not that much. I use gel gloss, which also helps a bit. Now I'm using golden open, and sometimes mixing it with open body.
But in the end i have relegated myself to painting in sections, first sky, then mountains, then land, then foreground. Each time laying out a new palette just for that section alone, as i move through the artwork. I generally use the same color palette throughout to keep the unity and harmony of the colors.
What are your thoughts on this approach? do you have any advice you can lend?
ps. i would really love to see a few full length tutorials or take a workshop from you, do you have a teaching schedule for this year 2022? Kind thanks,Yuanita Klatt

That is magic! Your brush is the wand. My favourite video so far. ⚡️ Even the technical malfunction part. 😁
