  • This 20-minute acrylic painting demo focuses on values. Here I limited myself to 3 colours to render a landscape painting, making sure to have warm and cool colours that also range in value from light to dark.

    Thank you!!! I have been trying to figure out how to abstract landscape -THIS is exactly what I wish to accomplish in a finished painting. I am legally blind and cannot do detail or a 'realistic' landscape. Been abstracting and failing - this is perfect. Thank you for the inspiration. I've followed you 'off & on' for years...glad I just rediscovered you.

    Omg if more artists or would be artists only realized the gold in this demo. I’ve been watching TH-cam videos on art for several years and no telling how many hundreds. This single video is one of the most useful I’ve ever seen. Composition, value, & looseness: the keys to beautiful work

    Thank you - I found your great book yesterday "Painting Red Hot Landscapes" buried on my book shelf - I am working to get my art to a professional level- got online and found these vids -- fabulous exercises to get you going or as you say - have a wonderful painting, a failure, but always a learning experience!

    I am a great fan of your paintings and your style - I would love to see an end to end painting rather than a 20 min thing- why the compulsion of 20min...what I’d like to see is how you reach to the finesse of your painting from the the point you left in this video- is there any any link?

    Yo Mr. Mike, I can relate 20 min....personally 1hr. 23 min. then I laugh and start again. I have learned and THAT IS the fun part.

    Found in doing thumb-nail comps I go into detail maybe to much...choose my paints and adjust my colours as I go, must try your logical method

    Hi Mike great lesson, many thanks, any chance you could go over how you prepare your boards, cutting, size, gesso, and the issue with tannins? thanks again

    Great video, thank you. One question, what made you decide to switch warm or cool mid tone values?

  • @carolekinnear3221
    @carolekinnear3221 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Mike, yes you make it look easy! I think what i need to do is to, disengage the side of my brain that sees detail. I don't see just shapes, does that come with practice?

    Thanks Mike, this was great! Excellent reminders of how to keep it simple and how to get mid tones well underway before heading into darks and lights. Quick question: do you refrain from using medium for a specific reason? Thanks again :)
