That's the privilege of living in Europe where they're less famous. They were hanging at the merch stand after their show and they're indeed two of the sweetest artists I've ever met. Derek even gave me his bottleneck when I told him that I started to play slide guitar because of him. One of the best shows of my life :-) Thanks for your video!

This is the first “reaction video” I’ve ever watched, and I didn’t have high hopes, I just clicked because I love TTB and I know Susan kills Angel of Montgomery.
But it really brought me a lot of joy to see how moved you were. You looked as if you were close to tearing up. That’s the power of music! I love that. I’ve been fortunate to see them many times.
Then I watched your video of Midnight in Harlem. I share your reverence for Derek Trucks. You really know your music theory. I wish I had stuck with an instrument instead of wanting to play everything. Anyway, you are the kind of person I’d love to spend time with. I’ll be checking out more videos, I’m sure. Thanks!

I feel the the same way. I was always hesitant to watch "reaction videos" but this is truly special seeing a brother get 'that gleam in his eye' and, as fellow Deadheads who seen them many many times, witness the magic in the reaction he has. Plus Sugaree, that's always been my song ever since I got on the bus long ago...it's a very special old tune and every time I hear it, I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time over and over.

Totally agree man! I came across Mike and had the exact same reaction - Mike's passion and knowledge and enjoyment of the raw emotion of a piece is just great. I just recently saw TTB in Red Bank, NJ in March of this year. completely, totally blown away. one of the comments below on how Derek directs the band with the slightest of movements, nods, turns, etc. He broke a string on stage, one of the roadies brought out another guitar but Derek had him bring a string. Derek had the keyboad player take on a solo while he changed his guitar string right on stage and the band just kept on playing a very complex rythym. crazy. Susan's voice is so far past 4 dimensions hearing her live will make you cry if you have a heartbeat. just looking at other tour dates now. Beacon theater NY in OCT!

RIP Kofi! You are sorely missed, my friend! Big part of the soul of the Derek Trucks Band and TTB. They were the last band I saw live before the lockdown as well. With so many moving parts, it would be easy for that to turn into a muddy mess, but they handle it so well! I would probably agree with best live band around now (or Widespread Panic!). Always fun to see how bands react to adversity, because they all have it! Jerry was famous for flubbing lyrics, I saw Greggory flub more than one verse too, JB, hell no telling where he's going sometimes, but they never fall off of that tightrope! I saw Susan open for the ABB sometime in the late 90s, maybe 2000, and had never heard of her. Well, I certainly left that show knowing who she is!

Yes, Kofi was so talented and it was a major blow when he passed and will forever be missed. They are, IMHO, the best band around and as you described so tight and professional. I saw the same tour back then and discovered Susan myself and she blew me away! When ABB reformed after DB they were back to playing great shows with Derek and Warren on guitar and Oteil on bass. Those Beacon Theater runs were are real joy to see!

One point of order. As a drummer, we call that snare sound in Sugaree crossstick.. A rimshot is when hit the head and the rim at the same time which makes a sound that is a mixture of the two sounds. Also, I swear there was a little Jethro Tull playsinging right at the end of that flute solo.

The first time I found Derek and Susan, it was in a video of an all-star jam session with Clapton, BB King, and I believe Mark Knopfler. It seemed the producer wanted to focus on Clapton and King, and thought "Forget these other guys" whenever someone else played. I was like "Hey, I want to see more of that slide guy!!!" LOL
But of course, Clapton and King handled it like they professionals they are and tried to share the spotlight with everyone.

I have seen these folks twice live and Susan knocked it out of the park both times. Seems like she doesn't have many bad nights. Also the only flute solo I've ever enjoyed in my life so far. Thanks for posting this Michael. Hopefully you'll somehow get to meet them.

Their version from Austin posted here on TH-cam I have watched over a thousand times. The part where Derek finally comes back on stage for Sugaree gives me shivers every.single.time. TTB is an absolutely brilliant band.

This is the version that should have made an appearance here. It's so good. The way she looks at him as he just spreads his wings and takes off is the stuff of real, bonafide true love.

Just now found this channel when searching for other Tyler Childers- related videos. I first saw your Nose On The Grindstone reaction, and it made me wish you had a video for every single one of his songs. Talking about his voice and the meaning if the song interests me a lot, so thank you for that aspect of your videos, as I don’t play guitar myself. If you return to Tyler, our family favorite is “Follow You to Virgie”, with the POEM that is “Lady May” as a close second. Also, “Messed Up Kid” (only on youtube) is a light-hearted fun song of his.

Not just tones but they define clear lanes of frequency that they pretty much stay in. When mixing it's obviously one of their most important tasks.

Saw Bonnie play this at Magfest and it left me a crying mess in the middle of that SOSMP field. Susan pays respect and plays those characters so well.

Saw this band in a smallish theater in San Diego a few years ago. Killer horn section, dynamite rhythm section. Trucks slide was explosive and sublime. But Susan Tesdeschi OMG she’s the angel. Sounds like Bonnie Raitt and plays a mean Strat. Unforgettable show.

Such a beautiful lesson Michael. You really made me appreciate this band even more than I already do. A little context for you: Seen ttb 30+ times all over the country. Some times I go days upon days listening to TTB. So it's high praise. Thanks 🙏

Great video Michael! I saw all 3 Nashville shows shortly after you saw them in D.C. They are definitely the best band out there today for so many reasons. The way they feed off each other on stage and communicate with a look, a smile, or a laugh is incredible! They played Angel/Sugaree as well and I got goosebumps when the whole room is singing Sugaree. Very powerful moment! Can't wait to see TTB again...
    Keep up the good work!

TTB is without a doubt the best live band around these days. Every member is a badass playing their instrument and each vocalist could front their own bands. As for the "space" when they play, they do what all great musicians do - they listen to what is being played. It's such a simple concept yet many players can't seem to grasp it. I never thought I'd hear power coming from the stage after The Brothers called it quits but TTB thankfully proved me wrong! As for them getting no airplay or so many people being unaware of them - they're too damn good and the masses settle for way less.
