The engineering and production on this is fucking fantastic. So rich, intense, and full of depth. The drums and guitars sound incredible FW should be getting a lot more views. At least as much as Queensryche.
You know Jim Matheos is a riff master when you have to incredible shredder guitar solos on there and all the comments are about the rhythm guitars...GOAT.
Nice call on guy who brought up franks playing on static acts ..the opening lick is so brutal and played so precise ..these dudes are easily the most overlooked musical gods ever.
Define Heavy ? It sounds like typical Fates Warning to me and sounds just like anything else they've done in the last 20 years . Most Heavy since " No Exit " my butt. lol I love Fates Warning and Matheos and I've got all their cds and they've always had a " Heavy " sound .
+Randy Jones..... 2 & 3 chord bar-riffing heavy. Fates's mood and tone has always been "heavy", but has been far from metal since the No Exit days ("Part of the Machine", "Heal Me", and their last album have been the few exceptions, especially the extended version of "Falling" (ie- "Falling Further") While the 80's was unfolding to classic album after classic album, Fates Warning's craft indicated they just played the music better than their contemporaries. I was sad to see the style shift in 1989, but I'm happy to hear them return to their roots a little bit. It's a much welcome return.
mysocalledknife07 I think the Perfect Symmetry album is when Fates Warning really found themselves and everything they've done since 1989 is brilliant , it's hard for me to listen to the specter and guardian albums without skipping a song or two . You can't put " the arena" in the same category as " pirates of the underground " because it's just not happening . The first 3 fates albums are their worst ones IMO .
Lyrics: You've looked through eyes Under darkened skies Your world was standing still No one's going to take your soul away It's all your own But innocence was gone, it's gone No surrender, don't give up Never carry that white flag No surrender, now get up Rise and bury your white flag In the days that followed you A new heart now is born You'll never be alone No surrender, don't give up Never carry that white flag No surrender, now get up Rise and bury your white flag And as days pass along Know you've done no wrong Few know sorrow as you did You've made it, you've made it As life dims and fades away Like shadows in vain And when all light is gone I'll be there, waiting The echoes there Were more than most could bare Yet no regrets at all No one's going to take your soul away It's all your own But innocence was gone No surrender, don't give up Never carry that white flag No surrender, now get up Rise and bury your white flag
I thrilled about these new songs, they sound amazing. Makes me think about Rush's "Clockwork Angels", in the sense that both albums showcase how these top bands are creating music that compares so well to their back catalog; this music is just as awesome as their best past material.
Fates Warning rules, been a fan since I was in high school back in CT.been with them since 1984,never disappointed with the music they put out,cya in March with Queensryche
Me being a Huge fates fan and a Guitar player this video is special, seeing Jim playing the chords, the technique, and the Quick clips of his old Gibson SG, just an awesome video !!
One of the coolest things I've ever seen! To see two of my guitar heroes up close (Matheos & Aresti ... although I've seen them in close proximity in concert several times way back when) in HD, all I have to say is ... we need many more of these kinds of videos from them! So bring 'em!
Amazing album, great song. I love Aresti's tasteful playing in songs like "Static Acts" (best guitar solo ever!!!), but seeing him shred like this is pretty intense as well, would love to hear more from him in general. The new album just proves why Fates Warning are in their own league entirely. Not saying they are better/worse than other current prog bands, they just remind me of Rush, where they are just doing their thing and not giving a fuck about anything else. (and also - Jim Matheos is the grand master of multilayered guitar tracks)
The young man doing the solo is the guitarist who was on tour for Darkness. I can't think of his name, and I heard that he is 32 yrs. old. He was fantastic at the show I went to see. Oh there"s Frank. With the baseball hat.
frank cant tour with the rest of the band so they have Mike Abdow on the guitar. hes the supplemental player for Frank. Frank is touring for the Awake the guardian tour part of the band.
I'm quite annoyed his picking hand isn't shown during the fast alternate run at 3:25 :( The pleasure of watching high level guitarists is in the picking.
The concept behind "Theories of Flight" is awesome!!! It makes me wander. Didn´t explore the album properly yet, still in process......I think I´ll buy the original to have this amazing art pictures.
It is Jim Matheos with different clothes but the curly hair are always the same , and at 3:15 there is somebody that I do not know (other people in comments say he is Mike Abdow) , and at 3:44 it is Frank Aresti , because his face is like Frank Aresti from what I have seen in pictures of old albums. From 4:10 and on it is again only Jim. I like the buzuki that Jim has on the wall , I wonder if he practices it , and if he can play Greek music with it.
God I’ve been a fan of Fates since Arch was the singer. So many lineup changes in this band yet, the quality of output is high! That’s the thing is the quality of what they’ve done is so good. As far as a rhythm guitarist, Jim is unmatched. There’s a difference in creating interesting music, patterns and progressions as opposed to songs sounding scaler. Jim writes beautifully. Love these guys!!! I’ll always be kinda sad that Zonder isn’t there anymore cause that dude is the guy I’d compare to Peart
F. Aresti is one of my favourite progressive rock guitar players. A great technique, speed, feeling, all virtual elements very, very balanced. He could easily be in the G3 shows, asides w/ Satrianni, Vai, Johnson, Govan........the list is long.
White Flag You've looked through eyes Under darkened skies Your world was standing still No one's going to take your soul away It's all your own But innocence was gone, it's gone No surrender, don't give up Never carry that white flag No surrender, now get up.. This is THE best FW song since Anarchy Divine. Why hasn't FW performed this in concert?? I guess the same reason that haven't done Anarchy Divine since 1990.
That was a cool vid !! thanks for showing off all the beautiful guitars in your arsenal and nice equipment too....did I spot a Mesa Boogie Rectifier ?....I still have my Mesa stereo Quad pre-amp ,,,I think it's an antique now....lol but it rips !!
I wasn't fan of Fates Warning. Always had greatest respect for maestro Jim Matheos and his lads, but their music never 'clicked' for me. Until they released this album ... Now I am a Fates Warning fan.
Yes welcome to the club. Thankfully, it isn't just Omair and I....Yah, we comment on everything!!! Hopefully I can get him to a Fates show, when they come to NY again.
I have been listening to Fates obsessively since "Inside Out". Ray has been my biggest influence when I was singing in my original project, "Perfect Symmetry"..Yea that was the name of the project. Our shortest song was around 7 minutes long. God I miss those days!!!
Patrick Puffer Damn, nice. That must have been a lot of fun. Jamming with like minded musicians. Lucky for you, you had an experience like that at all :)
One of THEE most underrated Guitarists out there (along with Frank Aresti) - but not to us fans :). Such a pleasure to watch the man play and nice to see "Mike Abdow" is indeed playing on the album (AND Frank :D!). Thanks again Jim for the decades of great music (man I'm old :p )! And always changing up the sound of the band \m/.
At first I thought: "What? Like Jarzombek? Jarzombek's style would never fit FW". Then I listen to it again with that in mind and... Man, you are right, the first part of the solo has some Jarzombek-style on it. And it fits. :-)
Fates Warning is the most underrated band! These guys are up there with Dream Theater and should be more popular. Matheos is an incredible composer! Just my 2 cents!
Mike Abdow, the band's touring guitarist. :) Dude's a really gifted guitarist and has been touring with the band since 2013 or so. I'd love to see him get the chance to provide more solos on future Fates songs! :D

Man, this album is really awesome! Now I prefer it than the previously one. For me only 1 of the 8 songs is not that good, all others have the quality FATES WARNING trademark.
Frank Aresti is so unique... I'm so happy, that he is always somwhere around the band even when he barely quit with regular shows
Jim Matheos is a MASTER of the craft. Love and cherish him forever. ❤️
Theories of Flight is my favorite fates album and in my top albums ever. My god, the emotional vocal lines, the riffs. Its just a masterpiece
The engineering and production on this is fucking fantastic. So rich, intense, and full of depth. The drums and guitars sound incredible
FW should be getting a lot more views. At least as much as Queensryche.
Don't forget Queensryche is more commercial band than Fates Warming,. and has sold 30 million album worldwide..
Ya this sounds better than the album version
@@simpap7838 after R.F.O Ryche went downhill, good thing Todd is there to try to revive whats left of the old school Ryche.
FW and Ryche are neck and neck since 2015 as far as quality and production. They both have had two solid albums in that time.
After Rage For Order, Queensryche went downhill?
Da fuck?
So many layers going on here in the guitar work.. Matheos is a mad genius!
Been jamming Fates since 88. Theories Of Flight is BY FAR their very best album.
I have listened to this hundreds of times. Absolute ANTHEM.
Jim guitars are the stitching in this song. And Frank owns that solo !!!!!!!
Bow and respect. This is 100% quality in music.
One of their Best Songs of fw.
Still underrated
I've heard three songs now, and they are all absolutely awesome.... Simply put, this just might be their finest release ever.
It is. This, Seven Stars, SOS, and The Light And Shade Of Things makes this their BEST EVER album.
Will never forget the first time I heard 3:01 - 4:10 , one of the top 5 best moments in metal history for sure.
I wouldn't mind if they did these playthroughs with every track from that record. Just amazing!
These are the types of Fates songs that translate very well live. Probably the heaviest thing they've done since No Exit. Awesome!
Define Heavy ? It sounds like typical Fates Warning to me and sounds just like anything else they've done in the last 20 years . Most Heavy since " No Exit " my butt. lol I love Fates Warning and Matheos and I've got all their cds and they've always had a " Heavy " sound .

Agreed, No Exit was close but not quite. Perfect Symmetry was, well, perfect. And everything els after has been great.
Lyrics: You've looked through eyes

No one's going to take your soul away
It's all your own
But innocence was gone, it's gone

A new heart now is born
You'll never be alone
No surrender, don't give up

No surrender, now get up
Rise and bury your white flag
And as days pass along
Know you've done no wrong
Few know sorrow as you did
You've made it, you've made it
As life dims and fades away
Like shadows in vain
And when all light is gone
I'll be there, waiting
The echoes there
Were more than most could bare
Yet no regrets at all
No one's going to take your soul away
It's all your own
But innocence was gone
No surrender, don't give up
Never carry that white flag
No surrender, now get up
Rise and bury your white flag
Thanks!
Awesome solos from Jim, Frank and Mike!
Matheos kills it...those double rhythm tracks
I can watch you play all day!! Love Fates since 1984, I was 15!!! FATES WARNING What more can I say!!
Love the glimpse we get of Jim's old GK amp. Nice! Great tune too.
I thrilled about these new songs, they sound amazing. Makes me think about Rush's "Clockwork Angels", in the sense that both albums showcase how these top bands are creating music that compares so well to their back catalog; this music is just as awesome as their best past material.

Master JIM, Master FRANK and Master MIKE!!!! So Perfect, so intense... Fates Warning is"The Band"!!!
E a voz do Ray Alder soa ainda melhor q. no último álbum. Ele estica mais as notas altas dessa vez.
The whole band just sounds amazing and full of life, I can't wait for July 1st..
Abdow's economy of motion is just insane. Such a brilliant player.. And of course Jim Matheos' writing is just on another level!
Me being a Huge fates fan and a Guitar player this video is special, seeing Jim playing the chords, the technique, and the Quick clips of his old Gibson SG, just an awesome video !!

Yup I watched it again.. and I think it gets better n better every time!!!

Frank shredding on a Petrucci guitar! Nice
Love it!! lol
Is that Frank or Jim Matheos?
Mostly Jim in the video but that very much looks like Frank in that part of the solo
The young man doing the solo is the guitarist who was on tour for Darkness. I can't think of his name, and I heard that he is 32 yrs. old. He was fantastic at the show I went to see. Oh there"s Frank. With the baseball hat.

Never gets old👍👍🤪
Mike's playing is so smooth, it feels as his fingers are not moving at all :O
True! Mike is also the only Fates touri g guitarist who does Frank's solos as they were originally performed. Not an easy task.
I'm quite annoyed his picking hand isn't shown during the fast alternate run at 3:25 :( The pleasure of watching high level guitarists is in the picking.
@@deaf2demands706 Mike Abdow. Their 2nd touring guitarist.

Jim Matheos & Frank Aresti are fuckin awesome!!!. Thanks for the music
You missed the part where Frank, on camera in this video, plays a solo on a really ugly guitar.
Frank plays 2 solos on the album, that's it.
Don't forget Mike Abdow.. his lead playing in this is SO sick.. his economy of motion is insane..
F. Aresti is one of my favourite progressive rock guitar players. A great technique, speed, feeling, all virtual elements very, very balanced. He could easily be in the G3 shows, asides w/ Satrianni, Vai, Johnson, Govan........the list is long.
Up the Fates!
This kicks ass!!!
Woha ! This guys still son damn intelligent ! I love this triple guitar solo ! The song is amazing ! Nice to hear this ! Fates delivers, yeah !
Have not disappointed in decades :)

Fates Warning is the shit, nuff said.
Masterpiece
RESPECT !!!!
Regardless of the album, FW dominate every band since 1985 when I started listing to them. No comparison hands down.
Jim master of riffs

OMG! Along with Queensryche, Fates is back with a vengeance. Whole LP is simply amazing. Would love to FW with all three Guitarists.
Awesome! Love it!
Awesome band! Always a big influence!
Who the heck disliked this?
some non musical mental midget
They have NO clue. This is THE best FW song since Anarchy Divine.
KILLING!!!!
Fuck yea
Wicked Cool!
Perfect!
Realmente, sua voz está melhor que no último, tomara que ao vivo ele consiga segurar, mas no álbum tá perfeito!!!

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
My all time favorite band.. fucking Fates. From the beginning boys. Love it always
Is this from "Awaken The Guardian" ? No new fuckin great stuff! Let´s go to the next record shop!
Michael Abdow's solo reminds me of Ron Jarzombek. Maybe Ron will do a guest solo at some point.
That would be badass
At first I thought: "What? Like Jarzombek? Jarzombek's style would never fit FW". Then I listen to it again with that in mind and... Man, you are right, the first part of the solo has some Jarzombek-style on it. And it fits. :-)
Exactly. I meant the beginning of the solo. Pauses, unusual notes, etc. Watchtower - the originators. :-)
Fucking Awesome....Still my favourite band..
Respect....!!! \m/

What's going on with Frank's health? was wondering why he's not out with them.. Mike Abdow is an amazing musician!!
Frank and Abdo,..
Awesome fuckin awesome

fuck yeah
wow

So Jim buys those long sleeve shirts in bulk.
wow Frank Aresti got especially good over the years.
It this standard tuning?
it's in Dropped C
Does anybody know who the first soloist is?
Mike Abdow, the band's touring guitarist. :) Dude's a really gifted guitarist and has been touring with the band since 2013 or so. I'd love to see him get the chance to provide more solos on future Fates songs! :D
Mike Abdow is a fantastic guitar player.
Guest appearance by Jim's first "real" guitar.
Correct. He still tries to play it a bit on each album too.
