I think everyone has a doubt that how * R'=R cos lamda * right!... it's nothing but....
In the diagram,
The distance between axis of rotation and that object( radius)= * R' *
The distance between object and center of the earth(radius)= * R *
The angle between those two radius = * lamda *
Now u can take * cos lamda= R'/R *
Thus it comes " R'=R cos lamda ".......😊😊
