I stay on him about that. Right Dan😁😁Safety , all accidents can be avoided. That was our mindset back when i was constantly in harms way during my Assembly manufacturing career. Fear, has a way of sharpening your sesnes.
After he passes, you need to keep a pair of nice new boy's shoes in the room he was in as a child. Just a means to honor him and will spark the story to his memory whenever visitors come.
How lovely was that Dan. What a character, could have listened to him all day. You are a special man Dan, I hope you have a happy life at the chateau 🤗
Dan,you said you were lost but you have now found your purpose in life. Very few people are fortunate enough to see a dream become reality. I admire your commitment to your dream. Stay safe!
May every child who arrives, receive a band new pair of shoes, in honour of Popeck. Thank you for this wonderful interview. My mother is 87 and remembers hiding under tables and running to bomb shelters in England. Every child was supplied with a bottle of milk every day at school during the war. It was to prevent rickets and malnutrition.
My mother passed away at 97 this Feb, lived also in England and she also lived through the bombings. Of London.. they lived through a lot like so many. This man that shared his story was blessed to be saved . Such a beautiful story.,
Yes can remember running out into the garden to go to the Shelter my father dug in the garden with materials supplied by the Government in the UK. Yes we had milk at school and saved the paper tops for the war effort. Another life. I am now 87 and we all got through it together. Different world now expect the State to do everything. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🍷🍷
This 72 year old Marine who has been following you from the begining has tears in my eye's from this video ,thank you Dan from bringing this man to tell his story
A beautiful gift you’ve given us. It is critical that these stories are told and preserved, much the same as your work to preserve the Chateau. Thank you.
I don’t mean to toot my horn but if you want another story of a child saved by a Catholic nunnery school, look up Paul Schwarzbart. He was my French teacher and dearest friend. I grew up with his stories of WWII.
I found this so incredibly touching. Dan, being his usual authentic self (which is rare on TH-cam) let us see his awe, respect and wonderment of this gentleman who knew fear few will ever know. This video is a gift to us all. Thank you Dan!!! You are truly the bright light in a land of composed vlogs. …and you know what I mean….😁
What a wonderful story, it’s fantastic to hear it from a survivor, he’s a great guy with a fantastic sense of humour. Well done Dan for creating another piece of history to the Chateau ❤🤗xxx
Well that bought a tear to my eyes. How wonderful to meet Popeck and hear his memories. It may not have been the happiest of times for him but it saved his life and has lived to tell his story. This chateau needed Dan to come along and rescue it and bring it back from oblivion for the history it’s held within its crumbling walls and let these wonderful memories go on forever. Thank you Nick, Brian, Kat and especially Dan for doing this.
I am French-American and have been following with delight your renovation of this beautiful chateau. I really appreciated that interview. Et puis je finirai en français. Ça faisait du bien d'entendre ce monsieur raconter ses souvenirs du château. Bravo !
Ce monsieur is Popeck, a well established stand up comedian with a long long career in show business. He's still dressing the exact same as he did all his shows over the years.
Dan, your goal and purpose for the Chateau are so noble. That shows the depth of your heart, compassion and generosity. What an honor to follow you on your journey. Thank you.
I teared up when he said he was shocked by your commitment to rebuild the Chateau. I think that resonates with all who watch you daily. Monumetous task, driven from deep within you, that only you can understand and then undertake..
To preserve an important building with such a history ,an emblem of freedom, a safe haven, a home is an honourable task. To take us along on this journey is a gift to each and every of us. Thank you Dan!
This was a wonderful story, so so beautiful and the man is 89, that is a miracle that he is still with us today to share his story. You’re doing great Dan!!👌👍
I remember seeing this interview before and I think it is a most wonderful story and thank you for posting Dan and as Popeck says ' do not get hurt any of you or your crew before you finish the Chateau or after' you are doing an incredible restoration and saving a part of history. Have a lovely day.
The opportunity to meet and talk about the chateau and his memories with this gentleman is one of my favorite parts of the overall story. You are so fortunate have this opportunity to keep the memory alive and continue the story... Bravo!
I've been a Popeck's fan for years, thanks for this interview Dan, l didn't know that part of his life. Congratulations to you and your helpers for giving your best non stop for the chateau.
Would you have time to describe who Popeck is to you as I have never heard of him and would have loved to ask more questions. Maybe there is a longer interview somewhere?? Namaste 🙏
I was riveted on every word this man said. To be able to listen to a survivor of the worst time in human history was such an honor for me. Thank you Dan for giving me the opportunity to learn more in order to honor more.
It's wonderful when we see your boys playing happily in the Chateau, bringing back the echoes of Mr. Popeck and his night time laughter with the other safe children.
Priceless interview! Recorded history does not get any better than this. Thanks to all who made this possible and, especially, to Dan for following his passion and sharing it with us. Much love.
It is amazing that a chateau that originally was built for the mistress of a wealthy businessman saved so many children during world war 2. Dan, Nick and Brian are now a part of yet another chapter in the history of Chateau de Chaumont.
Popeck is a famous « stand up » comedian who played characters with jewish humour in one man shows. Nice to hear the existing link between him and Chaumont
Dan, you have attracted so many followers and i think i now know why. It’s not just because we are interested in construction, or chateaus. It’s because of who you are. It’s because most of us either long for a purpose of our own, bigger than ourselves, involving some risk-taking and a learning curve, and/or we like someone else who’s doing that very thing. To accomplish what you have already, likable man that you are, is an engaging story. But to know the history and your evolving plans-no words. Beyond moving. This video seals it--you’ve won our hearts forever.
What an honour Dan, to have been able meet and interview one of the children. It's so heart warming, the comments to you, " safe". It's inspiration for you to save not just the Chateau, but the history. 🤗

Wow... that interview really moved me. Your intention to make the Chateau a center to help children is so beautiful. All the best with your attempts to resurrect the Chateau. Greets from the Netherlands.
@@connieprettyman6131- Dan has always said from the beginning, that he would like the chateau to be a place where underprivileged children could come for a holiday.
Thank you for having this gentleman share his story of living in the chateau. I would also say thank you for bringing the chateau back to life. I’m sure it has already improved your life. I look forward to following your journey. Stay well.
Very moving interview. I will be spending the morning with a dear friend, born in January 1941 to a Jewish family in occupied France, but who was successfully hidden and protected. He has had a long, distinguished and productive life, and I look forward to hearing more of your future plans for the chateau.
Phoenix Chaumont. Thank you Dan
Amazing Dan what wonderful chance to meet him a true gentleman and part of history of the château now you have great respect of what you are doing and why! Please work safely as your boys need their Dad !
Perhaps he will be able to come to see you at the chateau Dan...perhaps...and what a gift it would be to you both. But you have been able to meet and spend time with each other and that alone is priceless. Blessings to you and your friends restoring this home... heart, mind, body, and soul.
Popeck pretty much said he won't visit as it's too far for him and because of his age and fraility. Also we have to respect his wishes and maybe he'd find it too hard to come face to face with that part of his life, who knows, but what a wonderful interview.
What a beautiful moment between you. It is a wonderful idea to bring children back to the Chateau, which is more beautiful and meaningful now we've seen this video, and so are you. 🇬🇧
What wonderful memories he shared with you. I can't even imagine how you're feeling after he thanked you for doing what you're doing. I'm very proud of you Dan, and I'm glad the chateau was there to save you too!
Dan, this was incredible! I remember that you did do this interview and had wished at that time that I were patron so I could see this but unfortunately that was just not an option at the time. What a treasured moment though! It's nice to hear what your vision is for the future of the chateau, and it's a very worthy vision indeed!
Love watching your daily videos, this one was wonderful ❤ It is fabulous that you have connected to the living history of the chateau’s past before this precious connection is gone. Watching from Brisbane in Australia 🇦🇺👋🫶🏻

There are precious few people left who remember that dark time. Recording their recollections, like this, is important. It is the memories of a child being hidden from a terrible evil. The world beat that evil by the brave resistance of the French and her allies. This is part of that story.
What an amazing story of its past and its future. I loved watching you transform an old burnt down building into to something beautiful. And then to hear your plans make me love the channel and you more.
How moving, and wonderful , the history of the Chateau was so nearly lost... and along you came, with a crazy dream to save the Chateau, before you knew it's past! Well done Dan and team! Listen to his wise words! Stay safe while you renovate!
Dan, that meeting with a survivor of the burned down Chateau Chaumont, is so deeply moving, both from his memories and your Herculean effort to restore this somewhat poignant building for many years to come. I do echo his sentiments to stay safe as you progress on this mammoth task - you and your team are very special human beings - god bless 😇😇😇
Thank you for sharing this, I remember you had talked about the interview previously. My eyes were leaking listening to him. I love house history and have done presentations about how to research the history of a house. I've rehabbed several historic homes and I loved each one and its story. Of course in the US ours are not nearly as old as yours but I love when people visit who had grown up in the houses. ❤️ I'm still in contact with many of them. You get a special feel for a home peeling back its layers and trying to respect the history of the house putting it all back together again. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for sharing this very special meeting with Mr. Popek. It gives a whole different perspective of the Chateau de Chaumont when you see it through the eyes of a survivor. What you are doing to revive this historic building is amazing. I look forward to each and every one of your videos with great anticipation of what you will be up to next. Take care Dan, & have a great weekend! 😊🇨🇦
Dan your life has most certainly taken a huge turn over the past couple of years. The chateau is coming to life in such a meaningful way and listening to this gentleman has made this a very touching addition to this journey.
Amazing to hear the chap talk about it in the first person. A wonderful story. I am so glad you left his voice alone in the video. A project and a goal that is truly inspirational.
Dan, I’m so touched with tears in my eyes, I’ve written to you before about the chateau, seeing this wonderful cheerful man who was protected there during the war. Not many more left as he said. Your chateau can help perhaps children again and I hope that it does. I’m 77 years old, Jewish, I just missed the war, born in 1947, but I know all about it. Thank you Dan for bringing life back to this special chateau.
He's such a treasure! It's wonderful you were able to speak with him and hear his memories. That was such a precious gift. Thanks for sharing with all of us. ❤ Best wishes for the bright future of chateaux from the US.
Thank you , Dan ! ✨to you and all your great team of supporters for providing us again with an interesting information. Best wishes to all of you for doing this project 👏👏👏💕🇨🇦
Incredible story. Thank you for sharing it with us all. You are an amazing man for bringing the chateau back. Wonderful to watch you each day and your amazing help.
Stay safe, stay true to the dream that saved you and those children all those years ago. You will get there and it will be yours and Chaumont's legacy ❤❤❤
What an extraordinary man Popeck is, bless him, remember his words Dan, keep safe while working, (we’ve all been saying this) so you can see this project through for the memory of those beautiful children. So proud of you Dan. When you said ‘you were lost too’ that made me quite sad. 💝 Nick, Brian and OPman will help you to the end. x
Thank you for posting this! A new video confirming the Chateau and its history and purpose and how it continues on in our new world with your hard work and from the heart intentions. It’s a beautiful thing. ❤

I loved the way that you gave him the time and space to remember and tell his story.
What a lovely picture of him as a little boy and he still has that sense of mischief about him now. 😊
Amazing to hear the chap talk about it in the first person. A wonderful story. I am so glad you left his voice alone in the video. A project and a goal that is truly inspirational.
Such a beautiful story told by such a sweet, humble, grateful man. Dan, yes, please stay safe so you can accomplish your dream. God Bless you both.
Love the story about the Chateau. Thanks for sharing him Dan. Special person. All the best.
Stay safe, stay true to the dream that saved you and those children all those years ago. You will get there and it will be yours and Chaumont's legacy ❤❤❤
A deeply moving conversation. You just have to admire this entire project. Thanks.
What an extraordinary man Popeck is, bless him, remember his words Dan, keep safe while working, (we’ve all been saying this) so you can see this project through for the memory of those beautiful children. So proud of you Dan. When you said ‘you were lost too’ that made me quite sad. 💝 Nick, Brian and OPman will help you to the end. x
Wonderful story, and what a smile! A lovely Saturday morning treat.
Now that's an exceptional experience, Dan. What a wonderful man and what great memories.
Thank you for posting this! A new video confirming the Chateau and its history and purpose and how it continues on in our new world with your hard work and from the heart intentions. It’s a beautiful thing. ❤
