    • @taylerjcox
      @taylerjcox ปีที่แล้ว +46

      They definitely say they attempt to stop it for publicity reasons. Each Target is drastically diffrent, at my target we were allowed to deny people from buying gift cards over $250 if we suspected scams. I worked there for 2 years and they always had that policy, but I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere with a lot of elderly people. I can see how it would be much more difficult to dictate if it's a scam or not I much larger city where people do regularly buy $500 worth of gift cards.

      @@franciscogrant5944 they aren't defending her. They're saying that she is lying and that you can stop people from buying gift cards if you detect a scam (whereas the Target lady said they couldn't). I'm pretty sure they would also agree that that lady didn't care at all because anyone with ears could tell she couldn't care less💀

    • @annemary9680
      @annemary9680 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      That Target lady is just a representation of every institution/agency's attitudes. Law enforcement has every ability to put a stop to these scams overnight, even without cooperation from Indian authorities, but they don't do it because there's no financial incentive for them to care. In Target's case, they get money from people buying their gift cards, so they couldn't care less if it was for legitimate reasons or to give to scammers. They get their money either way.

      it is a bit of a weird way of saying it, given that destroying a pc isnt great on the morality thing, but saving someone from going bankrupt and having to essentially reinvent themselves to be safe from these pricks in india is nothing short of heroic, maybe even saving a few lives, given the weight of it all.
      and although I'm usually against destroying a computer, given that I don't usually know anything about the person losing their pc, this is one of the few cases where I'm all for it, Especially after seeing what happened.

They lack suspicion, follow orders like sheep (not an insult - they are thinking they are doing the right thing). Wnat’s really important is that there is more education. Places like WalMart or CVS or Target should have leaflets and handouts prominently posted by the gift card stand titled: BEWARE: READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY! And then, in a brief point form explain how the scam works by showing the tricks. They all seem to use the same script. It might help some people stop losing their money.

      bro the employees are most likely teenagers or early 20's kids working a shitty minimum wage job being harassed by customers daily. Give the managers a break, there's only so much they can do. You can give warnings and post signs but at the end of the day you can't micromanage every transaction done. You can't really blame the cashiers who go through with the transactions either because it's hard to tell customers no after an 8 hour shift of getting yelled at by karens and frankly they aren't paid enough to put up with that.
      Believe me, I've been the manager who had to deal with dumbass employees, and I've also been the dumbass naive employee being pressured into ringing up $2000 worth of gift cards. The best thing you can do is just give a warning like scambaiters did and hope that's enough and that they won't do it again.
