thank you again and again for all of these resources on wow emulation. this stuff is really hard to find out in the wild. your channel is a true gem, really appreciate it!
This is epic knowledge! I would love to use this when the new cata emulator comes out in the future. I wanted to use the cata preservation project but my computer acted very bad to the port. I had the idea to port NPC bots to the emulator but I felt the overwhelmed
Having studied computer graphics, it's bizarre to see that back in the day, Blizzard had to build all these tools from scratch, and now we have common model and shader formats
Thank you for these videos, I've wanted to get into wow emulation for multiple years now, but only your videos I found clear and informative enough to actually get into it, so thank you. Now my only issue is that I can't wait for the next one!
Can anyone tell me what they know about patching the 2.4.3 client? I have been combing through guides and learning as much as I can about this process, but some one recently told me its not possible to actually apply a MPQ patch to a stock 2.4.3 client. Why is that, and what can I do to work around this?
So if one was to try and access information that the server sends back to the client for purposes of tracking ores/herbs in vanilla 1.12, how would one go about finding the logic behind it in the files? Or should he be sniffing the packets for such information?
had an idea for a server, wondered how possible it might be.. and yes i know not every xpac has been repacked yet... the concept involves extra phasing as a trigger to advance between certain xpacs to allow player choice for advancing the story line... and of course certain features staying thru the xpacs like using ammo for ranged weapons.... i have ZERO experience with programming though...
@@dinkledork4421 could be, but would need as many xpacs available from vanilla to current that are available to get my idea... and don't believe i've seen a dragonflight repack yet...
Might be a silly question, but if you took out the MPQ files and started from the first, could you make your emulator a version of a progression server just by adding the other MPQ files in over time? I'm guessing it can't be that easy.
I would say that would require primarily database and core side executions. MPQ Patches could be used in unison but they primarily handle client side/visual side stuff whereas the database and server dbc will handle core side. So if you wanted to change the stats of an item on a progressive type server, you'd basically have to have a list of sql queries to change the stats for the appropriate progression. But if you wanted to change the visual appearance of say, tier 1 from one update cycle to the next, then yes mpq patches could do that. I'm not sure entirely how Vmangos handles this but i'm betting they have a lot of core side modifications to handle this easy of swapping between content updates.
looks like you are using DXVK I personally had some stutter in linux (never tried the game in windows) and limiting the frame rates from DXVK to my monitor's refresh rate fixed it how about you, what is your reason to use it?
Small Correction: the delete function for items is actually in staticpopup.lua. Global String has a lot in it as well but is wrong in the case.

Keep up the great work, I have no interest in doing this myself but I find this fascinating

Nice, nowdays clear and concise information (even basic ones) are hard to come by for custom server modding.
Nice starting tutorial. Thank you Dinkledork
Nicely explained, good job!
Please continue your series, I would be even willing to pay for them if you'd put it on Udemy
Perfect Video for beginners! Danke Dinkle!
Nice! I think going down into breakdown of how the server works would be very usefull
Next episode!
@@dinkledork4421 Looking forward to it, thank you!

very interesting! I wouldn't mind seeing more on this subject, and perhaps some examples as well?

Sounds like Individual progression module in Azerothcore.
