The Juicero Founder Is Really Into Raw Water And Really Hates Talking About Juicero (HBO)

  • Just a couple years ago, Doug Evans was making his Silicon Valley dreams come true when he raised over $120 million in venture capital for his juicer startup, Juicero. Now, after the company collapsed, he’s trying to figure out what to do next.
You might have heard of Juicero. The $700 wifi connected home juicer became the embodiment of Silicon Valley excess, and shortly after a Bloomberg story revealed you could squeeze the company’s juice packs with your hands instead of the expensive juicer, the company folded. Juicero was ridiculed for its price tag and the fact that it required a wi-fi connection to work. But Evans says the media got it all wrong, and never gave the company a chance.
Now, Evans has a new obsession: raw water. Evans garnered new scrutiny earlier this year when he announced on his Instagram that he was partaking in a five-day “raw water cleanse.” As he ponders his next gig, Evans joined VICE News to harvest raw water in Northern California.

Evans' new obsession is raw water, or untreated spring water. Some doctors say it could be a serious health risk.

In Portugal 99% of the botled water sold is "raw water". It's mineral or spring water that is naturaly bacteriologicaly safe and does not need any treatment. Tell those doctors and Evan to come over and have a drink. You can find it as low as 0,50€ for 1 galon at the supermarket, take it to 'Murica and sell it for $200...

On the real, AvE does tear-downs of stuff on TH-cam. guy knows his stuff inside and out like nobody I've ever seen, from electrical to machining, hydraulics, thermodynamics, all the different types of plastics (about 2 dozen and each with their weaknesses and strengths), oilfield equipment, there's NOTHING he can't tear down and tell you what was done, why, and how it could be done better. The juicero review he did was awesome and explained why the machine cost so much and gave such an awesome, funny, and in-depth review and it was the first time in thousands of tear-downs and repairs in his life that he said there was just nothing that could have been designed or used better materials for in any part of the entire machine. Said if every tool was built with that kind of attention to details and quality that companies would go out of business because even electrical tools would become working heirlooms inheritances. He just wants you to be healthy, and stop drinking nasty processed water, if you are too small minded to give him some money and attention, that is your problem. He also sells 1oz tinctures of Peruvian Yak urine, to turbocharge and bulletproof your raw water - you know for thinking and energy, I bet you think that is a "scam" too.

So, I'm currently finishing my studies as a UI/UX designer and developer. Not the exact same scenario obviously, but I can definitely make some connections here. A few things I was taught during my studies: A) Your solution must serve an actual need, it needs to solve a real problem. B) Once you determine your idea serves a need and develop your idea, you need to make sure the user actually understands your product. If they don't understand it or the motivation behind it, they won't use it and you will probably fail with your product. Simple as that. The fact that he says that "they really don't understand what the mission was" is on him as a product developer, not the user, lmao. And secondly, saying that "they just got stuck on the narrative" is ironic as hell, considering that's exactly what he did with this idea. You can literally buy organic juice and pour it into a glass yourself. So how is this invention any different that a literal carton of juice? lolol

They are all over Ca, SF, SD, LA, etc. I had a dude tell me I have never ever had "real" wasabi the other day, grated from whatever by hand with a copper whatever. I've been to Japan, but I just agreed with him,
I meet these people all the time. They use food as a social commodity to emphasize their socioeconomic status. It's like caveman stuff, I love it. The dude who came up with fire must have been super pretentious, like "have you ever had COOKED meat? oh man, it blows the raw stuff away, so much healthier too. I can sell you special "fire sticks" for some meat, and some skins, and one or two of your better caves."
The East coast doesn't seem to really embrace this nonsense. Maybe Providence, parts of Boston, anywhere affluent and tech oriented has all the real "woofuckery" quoted by rhijulbec1 below.
East coast woofcukery is like old wives tales, like drinking vinegar or cod liver oil or some harmless shit like that. The drinking of raw milk, tainted water, raw meat that is festering, etc, is really a West Coast thing. Good health insurance for these people I'm assuming.
