It's kind of insane how much of the 90's New York streetwear aesthetic they're are able to communicate with such a minimal design approach. The aged colors used on the 550's are a perfect example of this in my opinion.
It's interesting because streetwear evolved from the 90's in brands such as Off-White & Supreme which like to make use of heavy branding and recognizable prints. Whereas ALD takes more of a timeless approach to the ever changing aesthetic of streetwear. This is really powerful in my opinion because you have a brand that you can rely on for years to come. I think teddy referenced Ralph Lauren in one of his (few) interviews as an inspiration in world building around the brand and constancy in brand essence & output. Really excited to see where they are going from here, especially with that creative director position at NB.
They are most likely opening a London based store too btw, if you look on the UK careers page on the ALD website. They're looking for a London based store manager.
    Great video as always!

Love the brand, but they essentially took their entire theme, base and style from what hip hop fashion dudes did with the polo bear collection. Then added the essential American sartorial aesthetic of Ralph Lauren Purple Label. I would love to say it's unique, but it's really just an outrageously expensive copy cat. Still, I love what they're promoting, hate how they're not accessible. Polo will always be more for the streets, this brand, not so much, unfortunately. More for the individuals making a sizeable income who want to look like they're from Queen's, but spend like they're from the Hamptons.

    • @octob3rr
      @octob3rr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Najobajo It's all about inspiration from the theme, not stealing. Polo by Ralph Lauren is shit, I'mma stick with the real Ralph Lauren/Purple Label. His garments are expensive because of the craftmanship and quality fabrics.

I recently hit their store up in SoHo and thoroughly enjoyed our shopping experience. My wife and I ended up shopping there twice. Workers asked us if we wanted coffee while we shopped, the folks were genuinely helpful, and was among many other experiences that made visiting my wife’s hometown, Brooklyn, very very memorable. I personally like Aimé Leon Dore because their pieces are something I can grow old wearing the pieces I bought and he established distinction to ALD by helping New Balance’s further resurgence. I’m excited to see where ALD goes in the near future.

I really like that he opened Café Leon Dore, I think another big inspiration for that was Maison Kitsune. They're very similar to ALD and have Café Kitsuné shops around the world, including New York. I've never gotten into NB's shoes outside of 997s and 550s but I really think Teddy as their new Creative Director is going to change that for me and also give New Balance a much stronger presence in the sneaker and fashion markets.

Years from now, people are gonna look back at the Mulberry location in a similar way to the way people view shops like Supreme, DQM, Kith and others. One of the best brands simply because of how timeless their stuff is. Was lucky to get a few shoes from them and some sweaters and the quality and attention to detail is unmatched.

  • @efit4255

It’s kinda crazy I remember in 2018/ 2019 their stuff would go on sale all the time and never sell out. Literally would be at the ssense 80% off, now they pulled their stuff back from most retailers and sell out instantly while raising their prices and moving manufacturing to china

Theodore is also his grandfather’s name. So sure, broken down it sounds weird. But Aime’s brand is built on heritage - including his family’s Greek heritage. So it makes sense that his brand is a dedication to his family heritage and the things that inspired him coming up in 90s NY.

Loved this vid. Another NB collaboration you didn’t mention was the New Balance x ALD 1300. This shoe is often forgotten due to it’s extremely late release from it’s pre-order time. The shoe is absolutely fire with great suede and colors. Happy to be a owner of both colors!

All the knit wear and fleece wear is manufactured in China.
Only the sweats and tshirts are made in Canada.
And when you mention collabs, how can you not mention Woolrich?? Especially since you are showing clips of him in Italy in a Woolrich warehouse?

ALD has really great stuff but the online ordering experience really sucks if you're international and have issues. Shipping is super expensive and if you receive the order and have any issues, there is no refund process. You can only get store credit and they'll deduct return shipping costs from your store credit. It's 2 day DHL so it's like $54 USD. Just a warning to people. You're better off keeping the item and trying to resell. It's shady.

What I got from this video is the importance of connections and money. How would his story have turned out if he didn’t have a relationship with feig, funding to open a brick and Morse in nyc and the funds to launch a line in kith. Not downplaying the style, but also saying nothing is spectacular about it either.

Also, NB approached him for a collab which Teddy was initially reluctant at first. He wasn’t familiar with NB or had any personal connection like he did with Jordans. Lastly, Ronnie Fieg is an investor in ALD.
