- What is the difference between PRO-MIX® BX and PRO-MIX® HP®?
PRO-MIX® BX is considered our general all-purpose growing media. It has a good amount of water retention, and it is a great ‘all around’ transplant growing medium: bit.ly/3B8yBE9
PRO-MIX® HP® stands for high porosity, which means it is more permeable to water and air. It has a low water retention, therefore it dries out faster than PRO-MIX® BX: bit.ly/3pnGWRv

Perlite holds alot of water. Fill up a bowl and add water and perlite. Go ahead, it holds a ton of water.. just saying,
I got a white Residue when I opened the bag is it still good to use even though organic Bag had it in it
Promix is expensive trash...
How can I replicate HP to BX as stores near me does not have BX they have HP and I want BX. And can I use BX for my succulents?
Buy peat moss and add to HP which will dilute the perlite. Might also need to add some Dolomite lime to adjust the acidity of the new peat moss.
Add vermiculite as well to mimic the old BX version.
I have a question for you. I have x2 3.8 cu ft of hp and want to simulate bx should I just add more peat and at what percentage? Also can I add vermiculite also since it used to come with bx? Thank you for your help
Hi! It is more complicated since adding peat moss only addresses one component of the growing medium and other ingredients in the PRO-MIX formulation would need to be adjusted upward, such as limestone, macro and micronutrients, wetting agent, and Active Ingredients, for the product to perform similar to PRO-MIX BX. It would best to purchase the preformulated PRO-MIX BX to be sure the product performs to your needs.
Hi, can you tell me what wetting agents are used in PRO-MIX HP, PRO-MIX BX, and PRO-MIX premium moisture potting mix?
Hi! We use AquaGro 2000 wetting agent in all three products. Have a good day!
This product is my go to for medical reasons 😊❤Cheers and thanks
Finally
Can i use pro mix HP for succulents? Mixing it with succulents mix or regular potting soil.??
Ur better to use a succulent mix with sand ... My 3 year old aloe I transplanted with the hp pro mix still wasn't draining enough . I bought sand/coco coir an lava rocks to mix with the hp. Now my aloe is happy .

Is this the only difference is more perlite? Reason I ask is I need the HP. Stores around here carry BX. I happen to have a ton of perlite. If I add perlite to the bx does that make it HP? If so, I need to grab it right now as they only have one left 😬
Hi! Yes, you can add perlite to BX to replicate HP. Add 1 cu ft perlite for a 3.8 cu ft PRO-MIX BX bag and 3/4 cu ft perlite for a PRO-MIX BX 2.8 loose fill bag. You have to keep in mind that since you are adding more perlite, you are losing some fertilizer capacity, so you have to fertilize more frequently to compensate. Sorry about the delay, hope you can grab that bag!
Hey Nate which would be best for cannabis plants an using grow dots
Hey! Both are great for cannabis! However, if you want more air porosity and lower water retention, we recommend using PRO-MIX HP. Have a good day!
