Ivan Koloff would come once a week to a restaurant I was in charge of in Winterville NC and I never let him pay but he would stay there until we closed and I was able to talk to him about wrestling and Jesus Christ as long as I wanted and he was one the nicest men you could know and I miss him too this day

Greatly enjoyed this interview. Man I miss 80's wrestling so much. Such a memorable part of my childhood. These guys were like comic book characters come to life. Nikita did such an amazing job playing his role as a Russian. I'd say out of all the gimmicks in wrestling Nikita's was probably the most realistic of them all.
People often ask/say "If God is such a loving God them why does He allow suffering in our lives?" If we didn't go through hard times in our lives we would never seek or need God. God wants us to seek Him and rely on Him. Nikita, Sting, Luger all went through difficult times in their lives and it brought them to God. All 3 of these guys are changed men who are in a happier and better place today.
God is real, life after death is real and this life we're living will come to an end in a blink of an eye. But eternity awaits us after this. Bible says, "He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life." John 12:25. Too many people cling on to their lives in this world and not willing to give it to Christ. They cling to a world filled with hate, corruption, sadness, misery, and hopelessness. Jesus is the answer. He is the hope, the joy, the truth, the way, and the life John 14:6. And there's a FAR better place after this but it's only through Christ that we can have that perfect life.

It's late 1984, and Jim Crockett Promotions first starts airing here in Philly every Saturday at 2 pm on channel 17. One of the wrestlers introduced to me then was a massive, young guy who was billed as Ivan's nephew and would stand in the back with his arms folded while Ivan Koloff would do the interviews and disparage the USA and guys like Dusty Rhodes. As a 12 year old kid, I had no idea that Nikita was actually born in Minnesota. As for Ivan, I thought he was a legit Russian and remember he was feuding with Bob Backlund and Pat Patterson in the WWF in 1983 or so. Above all else, pro-wrestling is a performance art and it was much better not knowing the inner workings of it like we all do today. Pro-wrestling was based on psychology and trying to make people believe like Nikita did to perfection.

The man was brand new to wrestling and protected the business without even knowing that he was doing so. Fantastic! This was a fun episode! Well done, gents.🤘

The Best of 7... Man. Outside of Wahoo, Nikita was the 1 guy I remember that just beat on Magnum. All those moments between them on Worldwide & Mid-Atlantic TV from those arenas were MAGIC!

I agree. I'd have also loved to see Hogan vs Brody in mid 80s WM main event.
