A million to one odds that the zipper loop would get caught up in the frame. A million to one odds that Tony would be able to keep that bull in the net until help came. But through his perseverance it was a successful rescue. I don’t believe that I ever remember Tony sounding so exhausted but he never gives up the fight no matter what the odds are. For example….take a little dog for a walk and see what happens if he sees another dog. Their strength is amazing….now compare that to a big seal that’s in the water trying to swim away. I don’t know how you all do this day in and day out. You all must have super human strength.

This is a great demonstration of the sheer athleticism required to do this work. If you've never ran across a beach like that, not along the surf-pack but across the beach, you don't realize how difficult and physically taxing it is. Then you have to battle a 300-lb seal who is fighting for his life! Excellent teamwork to fix the problem and save this big'un's life!

Malfunctions can happen and yet your team can and will overcome them. It proves that you believe in what you are doing and how much it means to you. Also that you are willing to share these malfunctions with your audience allows us to see how hard some of these rescues really are. You are all truly amazing!

I was afraid Tony was going to be dragged completely into the water, because he wasn't about to let go of that net! I'm thankful you were able to resolve the net malfunction and rescue the young bull. That cut looked painful and infected!😟
Very often, team members can pull off a solo rescue but in cases such as this, when the target is so big and strong and the net malfunctions, working in tandem saves the day and the seal. Antoine and Denzil's (and Wally's bonus aid) collaborative effort made this rescue possible. Great job and thank you!
The OCN guys gained incredible experience in the last few years. Most of the time, seal-saving looks routine & easy. It is episodes like this one, that show just how hard + dangerous it can get. Another majestic creature saved from suffering! 😄

That was a complete sprint and weightlifting marathon for the staff and success! The patient was saved and free to live the rest of his life. Bravo!

We use binoculars and telescopes to scan for entanglements. Otherwise, it would almost be impossible to see entanglements. 🙂
