Thank you for sharing this. I love your videos and the informational focus you maintain with them. The pigment database you mentioned at the end sounds very intriguing... the preview looked like you had images of swatch cards for each pigment? I will definitely have to check that out!
Kimberly Crick Art oh that epic database sounds intriguing, useful, and ever so delightful. Please do continue to share with us. Your video is informative and inspiring. Thank you.
Love your channel! The blue jay is stunning! The gold shimmer looks like a Kuretake shiny colors 903 that's absolutely amazing to work with, I'm glad to see others like it!
I can't believe how beautiful your art is. You use some colours I would never dream of using yet you bring it together wonderfully. I find it truly inspiring. Thank you.
I am a official Horadamoholic and so I picked up this set when it lauched along with their other special sets for last years holiday season. They also actually offer a range of 6 golden metallic and 12 colored metallic watercolors in half pans in 3 different sets. I like their standard selection as well as the colors are choosen to mix well to get other colors.
...Aren't those other sets older limited edition sets that are no longer made and now you can only get from 3rd party sellers that might have remaining stock they haven't sold? Either way this Yellow Gold is lovely :D
They're definitely not only on the expensive side in the US, but in Germany, too ^^' I like how vibrant those colours seem and that box, well that one's just plain gorgeous 🥰 I'm just a sucker for good carpentry and woodworking skills 😍 Btw, those blue jays are sooo cute and I love the way you depicted yours is beautiful, I love how that warm yellow and the different blues contrast with each other 😊
Wow,babygirl... You did it again... You awed me... How on earth did you so much knowledge ,skill, and talent...??? 💝💝💝 luv you ,luv you.,luv you............. Thank you ,thank you.thank you.... Had a pet blue Jay ....you have no idea how smart and bad ass a bird they are...totally awesome, just like you sweets... s
Lovely painting, as always. 🙂 Schmincke. As far is the paints are concerned, I'd gladly sacrifice the wooden box and the synthetic brush for an exclusively single pigment set.
Thank you so much! They make some lovely paints, one of these days I'll go over all my favorite colors from each brand. If you happen to like granulating colors, their Potter's Pink and Mahogany Brown are notably unique :D
@@KimberlyCrick Thanks for that tip! I'm planning to escort my son's high school German class to Germany this summer and I'm hoping to find the time to hit an art supply store while we're there. I will look for those colors!
Ahh, that Delft Blue and Cobalt Green Dark are so gorgeous. I would buy this palette for the range of colours that it has picked because it's not the usual "basic" set that most brand produces. EXCEPT, I'm not personally in love with schmincke as a brand.. maybe I haven't used it well enough to like it or maybe I'm just used to those inky asian brand watercolours. I love the palette too - no sharp edges on a wooden palette. It's so decadent. Oh and the tiny particles in the gold, love, I'm a little bit sick of seeing really opaque metallic colours so this is such a breath of fresh air. And those Blue Jays are beautiful!
Funny you mention that, I was not in love with Schmincke as a brand until this set. I have one other set from them and it was a generic basics 12 color set. Nothing special and I couldn't understand what the fuss is about. I'm starting to realize over time that certain brands have a few really good colors, and the others are just "good" but not "great"... I'm thinking I need to make a series of videos covering my favorite colors from each brand. Several in this Schmincke set are awesome, and they have a great potters pink and mahogany brown that granulate as much as Daniel Smith!
Contains the following colours: Lemon Yellow, Quinacridone Gold Hue, Geranium Red, Permanent Carmine, Perylene Violet, Neutral Tint, Ultramarine Violet, Ultramarine Finest, Phthalo Blue, May Green, Perylene Green, Sepia Brown. This set also includes a da Vinci watercolour brush (Round, No. 6). Seems like they are throwing in all new colours now into this set...10 months later...crazy marketing strategy...which one set do you prefer/ from Jackson's site October 31st 2020 Janis
Looks like the picture is right for the listing, but their text writing of colors included is not right. The curved oak box in the photo is the colors shown in the video at 4:45 and I usually pick sets based on how many of the colors I was already debating buying individually. With this old set I was already looking at the lovely Cobalt Turquoise and Delft Blue, then there was the harder to find yellow gold only available in sets that swayed me. If you would not have been tempted to buy at least half the colors in a set individually, I use that as a test if it would be worth it to buy a set. Usually it's only a little cheaper compared to the per color cost. Overall I usually prefer to get individual colors that I'm missing compared to others I own, love collecting samples of every kind of pigment :)
The feather details were delightful to watch! Thank you for this review of the set as well as the blue jay painting. You captured the colors and the mood of the bird so well. The face and eyes are especially notable. How did you like the gold paint? Does it apply like other watercolor or was it a bit thick or lumpy?
Thank you :) It was a very fine particle mica, so it flowed rather nicely with enough water. I was quite impressed with how sparkly it is. If you've used coliro or finetec it easily matches their glittering effects. I think the Schmincke ones flow better than others I've tried.
That's a beautiful set. I like Schminke but don't own many for same reason: too pricey here compared to other brands. Where did you get your swatch stamp?
Schmincke is quite pricey, but have some lovely paints. I'm working on figuring out which colors are their most unique compared to other brands to determine what's worth the investment. You can find my swatch card design as a digital file or a rubber stamp on my website at www.kimcrick.com/products/swatch-card-rubber-stamp-for-watercolor-ink-acrylic-markers-for-universal-art-medium-color-chart-organization-select-mounting-option
What a lovely painting. Great set, beautiful design, interesting color selection (the two pigment sienna a bit strange though), and schminke quality is undisputed. But calling it a gift set is right, as receiving it as such would be the only way I would get one...😏 The price is to steep for me, especially as a beginner water colorist (student grade paints for me at the moment). And when I switch to prof. grade I would rather buy single paints than a set.
Thank you and definitely picking out a few individual favorite colors can be a great way to go. There are so many affordable student grade paints now that can really take you far between Van Gogh, Pretty Excellent and even entry level pro grades like White Nights. Happy painting :)
@@KimberlyCrick Ha! I am actually painting with the 24 color Sonnet set, the student grade paint from White Nights, and quite like it. I have been considering their artist grade, as it retails here in Iceland. My favorite art supply shop has plans to start selling WN in tubes this autumn, only pans now. Their other brand is Aquarius, from a small polish company, hear good things about that paint too.

Well, some shops got them back in stock and It seems to me they made a second edition of these metallic colors.

You have awesome pieces! this one is really good, very nice texture! like #123 and subbed.
The Schmincke palette isn’t too bad for under $100. I’d toss the burnt sienna though.
