For real. I get panic attacks that are exactly as he describes. The fuzzy head unable to think clearly, need to pace etc. Whats funny is that a doc told him to have a drink which is actually really helpful. Both alcohol and common anxiety medicines affect the GABA receptors and help you relax a bit.

Hader is great! Coincidentally, McCartney tells a story about when he was on the Ed Sullivan Show, performing 'Yesterday' for the first time.
A Stagehand was watching him peek through the curtain, and asked him, "You nervous?" Macca, being the consummate professional, replied that he wasn't. The stagehand says, "Well--you oughtta be--there's gonna be 20 million people watchin!"
Paul said he wasn't nervous until the guy said that! LOL!

I had an anxiety attack yesterday because I had to get like a tax permission or some shit like that and I have a serious discalculation disorder and I couldn't understand what they were saying so I started crying and my heart rate was insane and it freaked me out even more so when the guy told me that crying won't help me I actually screamed at him "can't you see I'm scared right now? I can't control it." And then I took two beta blockers and actually explained to him what they were and only then he realized how serious it is and actually helped me work out the issue that got me to that place to begin with. But my point is, I'm 27, and before Bill came and talked so openly and so courageously about his fears I never dared to talk about it either, I was ashamed of it and thought that people wouldn't understand anyways so why bother explaining (that part is still true, by the way. Only people with real anxiety know what it feels like to have your brain on lockdown) But hearing him talking about it and seeing people's reaction to it truly inspired me. I was so scared to talk about it that I only went to a doctor for anxiety medication a few months ago, and now I'm actually TELLING people that I have anxieties so I need their help and their patients with me and that's why I'm acting weird. And that wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for him. He was sent here.

I've had a couple panic attacks and when they are full blown you feel like you are dying or having a stroke and dissociate from reality. What you should do is calm your mind and body down. Caffeine releases cortisol, the stress hormone, and puts you in fight-or-flight mode. Magnesium everyday is a great way to calm. Add in some holy basil, ashwaganda and rhodiola. Deep breathing is free and really helps to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system.

I wonder if Bill hader's anxiety is somehow connected to his humor.
people with anxiety tend to imagine all the many things that can go wrong in any given scenario, however unlikely those things are, which often causes them to overprepare. It can contribute to someone's amazing skills. Maybe it's part of why Bill Hader is so amazing; constant preparation.
Regardless of what percentage of his brilliance would be lost, if any, I wish an anxiety free existence for him. I hope he gets on the right medication. I bet he will be very glad he did.
they said Van Gogh suffered with depression and it contributed to His brilliant work. Well, whatever portion of his brilliance we would have lost if he had not been depressed, I wish we could have lost it. He deserved to be happy.

Interesting. I was the lead in a play with a big cast and was freaking out opening night. Another actor saw how nervous I was and basically told me I nailed it in rehearsals - I got this. That really helped. Sometimes all you need is an encouraging word.

I pace and shake my arms when I’m anxious. I can relate to that so much.

I remember him telling the story about his anxiety somewhere several years ago, and he said his then wife would come down to the studio and do lamaze breathing with him before he'd go on.

I had this problem In college before presentations. I would usually pretend to vomit “I’m sorry I’m a little nervous” a majority of the class would bust out laughing and I would be absolutely fine after that.

It’s funny how anxiety shows itself. For some it’s events/people, public speaking, things going wrong in daily life, repairs in the home. It also expresses itself different in how it feels. For some it jitters, some it feels like ur skin has become sunburned, sweats, upset stomach, etc.

Lots of people saying they have anxiety here. I have to recommend, because it's helped me so much, Hilary Jacobs Hendel's book 'It's Not Always Depression.'
Other than that, whenever I've had to engage in public speaking, there's nothing like finding a private place beforehand and just shouting my head off. Calms me right down.

Public Speaking is one of the biggest fears out there. I have it but yet I still announce for baseball games and even perform in front of audiences. It is still tough after 30 years. I'm still looking for tricks to make it easier.

Bill Hader is one of my top favorite actors. I love that fact that Lorne Michaels told him that he could work at SNL as long as he wants. Lorne Michaels is an awesome person a runs SNL with very serious professionalism. I don't think that SNL will survive when Michaels passes.

It's so nice to hear that Bill has these anxiety problems. I do the exact same thing when I have anxiety (pacing, flailing my arms, etc.) and to know that he was able to get over this is really relieving.
