When you think about it, Ethan did have powers of his own. He could make ordinary bullets and knife slashes injure creatures that would otherwise be immune to such things. He can spawn weapon ammo in places where you normally wouldn't find any. And he can reattach limbs by pouring Gatorade on the wound.
Ethan’s power is Gatorade manipulation kekw
personally, if Ethan got some light versions of the Metamycithe powers, that would make him more interesting and more memorable, since along with being too determined to die, he could probably copy the monster menagerie powers of the Village, with a resource restriction and as another way to improve Ethan.

Ethan's body is a reconstruction of his original body made of Mold. The Gatorade cause his body to grow itself back together.

I like how Ethan was the guardian angel of Rose, so to speak.
When she was a baby in Village, he said he wouldn't let the monsters get her, and he kept his promise in the DLC.
That's why I love him..
He's the father that everyone needs.

I’m crying bc of the ending
Miranda wanted a child and Eveline wanted a mother, both of them were basically right next to each other in the megamycete and were completely rejecting the other despite what they think they wanted.
They could have just decided for a happy ending with each other in a world they controlled entirely, they could have even worked together to give Rose a much harder time if they both weren't stuck being rooted in their own obsessions.
Why should they?
Miranda abandoned Eveline because she saw her as nothing but a failure.
That's one of the reasons why we sympathize with Eveline and hate Miranda's guts.

I just adore the concept of a parent passing down their jacket to their daughter/son. It just feels so special as a keepsake especially since Rose received Ethan's jacket and ring. But at the same time it can represent that the daughter/son is going to have to carry the burden of their parent's memory which is kind of sad. I hope that Rose can just live as herself and remember Ehtan as someone that is warm which I think she will

Ethan Winters is one of the best characters in the Resident Evil games I genuinely think he is the perfect example of a parent protecting their child.

That was such a sweet story of a father and daughter struggling to survive against all odds and ultimately coming to accept their sacrifice and their powers due to each other

I know his whole thing is being a faceless protagonist but this story that's been crafted feels so personal for Ethan as a character. That's why I find it's such a missed opportunity that they didn't show his face when Rose said they got the chance to talk face to face. I was hyping myself up because it felt like such a perfect moment for that to happen and it just didn't. Still a 10/10 dlc and story, big fan of it, literally my one gripe about it.
I don't think Ethan's face being a mystery means faceless protagonist. I think they like making him mysterious.

RENT WAS DUE for Rose’s VA she did such a great job with the screams some of them actually got to me 😭
Her crying near the end proper made me tear up and I rarely ever cry when watching media.
I just did a playthrough of the DLC on hardcore, and the times when I had to deliberately die to lower the difficulty level were rough. Rose's screams as she's being pulled into the red megamycete by those creatures during her death scene are disturbingly realistic. I hope Jeannie Tirado (her voice actress) got a generous bonus for all her work.
As soon as Ethan's note was read in his voice, I started tearing up so hard I had to pause the game. I lost my dad when I was really young so I barely got to know him, only bits & pieces of memories that I try so hard to hold onto. Playing through the game & realizing it was Ethan made me think of my own dad & I relate quite alot with Rose (I was always the weird different kid, barely had any friends if none at all growing up & was bullied heavily). I know my own dad would have done everything Ethan did for Rose & even though it made me sad I'm glad I got to play through it; the devs did a FANTASTIC job on this story about a father & daughter.

Oh man, I feel you OP! I lost my dad to cancer when I was 17, and the end of the DLC left me sobbing with how much I missed him. Many hugs from me to you, you’re doing a great job! ❤
It’s honestly weird that the Metamycede would end up creating The Masked Duke as an enforcer of sorts in that realm. But this does prove a theory of mine, the Duke had part of the Cadou in him and was possibly the last experiment Miranda made, however it seems that Duke had a strong enough will to ignore the Cadou’s influence and in turn Miranda’s control and left to travel around in a horse carriage. His connection to Miranda and the Cadou within him also explains his two of his abilities that is seen in game, the first being the ability to teleport around the village in secure areas once they’ve been cleared and his ability to seemingly avoid all damage the player does when they shoot him.
Side note but I believe that those with Cadou gain a curse along with their gift. Take for example Lady Dmitres (apologies for the spelling mispronunciation) who while gained super strength. Retractable claws, and incredible healing, she requires blood to gain sustenance and strength due to her Blood disease being mutated due to the Cadou. The last lord Heisenberg gained the ability to produce an electromagnetic field that he can generate within his body, similar to an electric eel, but on a massive scale, thus giving him the ability to manipulate and control anything electronic or metallic. However it seems that it had an adverse effect on his brain, making him mad and eccentric to the point where he believes that he can kill Miranda. It seems that with each power a person receives from the Cadou there’s an negative effect on the person, altering their personality and mind or mutating their medical conditions.
Miranda created that duke as an attempt to recreate a person inside the Megamycite.

@@Absol125 Well no duh. It’s in RE Village context 🤡 Cadou, or gift, is what Miranda labeled those fungal-mutated nematodes. Uriaș was the name of the village chief, who would go on to become the Lycan pack leader. His name literally means “Gaint” or something of large size. Though simply because that’s his name’s meaning, doesn’t mean we’re gonna say “Oh, yeah. I think Large is going to do blah blah blah.” A lot of names have literal meanings. Doesn’t mean we gotta refer to them as such.
Ethan is now established as one of the gigachad trio of the resident evil franchise along with Chris and Leon rest in piece king

i just love how resident evil went from evil corporation doing messed up experiments to lovecraftian entities and alternate realities.
and the evil corporation is now a good one working to fix the mistake it's old version started.
@@Hulkindex No that was all the BSAA because Chris lost trust in the BSAA but he is still working with Blue Umbrella as they supplied Chris’ squad with equipment like thebIjector.
Also Village takes place in an Eastern Europe Village so those soldiers are BSAA Europe soldiers, the only Umbrella we know still around is USA so it isn’t fully possible not saying it is impossible but there is little evidence to support the theory given Umbrella had little role in Village
@@Hulkindex No Blue Umbrella doesn't fund Hound squad but they did supply them with equipment like the Med Injector to ues there. But regardless we still know little about the Bio-Weapon soldiers but from what I dug up from expanded research Blue Umbrella is only charged with supply anti-Bio Weapon gear and weaponry nothing about actually researching on Bio-Weapons

@@Hulkindex Yeah but in the Baker Incident another company was revealed who were paying Lucas for data on the Mold so there are other company’s doing Bio Weapon research but again this is all speculation there is no hard evidence that Blue Umbrella was the one to make the BSAA soldier
One of the things that really struck me about the way Ethan uses his words to not only guide Rose, but he also just checks up on her and her mental state, especially if she has just been through something really intense. It just warmed my heart that he also took the time to ask her if she was ok. It makes it feel like he’s acting like a parent would, which I think is very sweet.
It's a good thing that Rose keeps her powers because I can see the anime scenes in future resident evil games and I love we see a but of Ethen Winters face a bit in this game I love it. And I feel bad for Mia she's been through a lot I have the story gives her a happy ending. We need Rose and Chris to save Mia who else agrees.
Mia down right had a hand in creating bio weapons and hid/lied to her husband that he was still human. She doesn’t deserve anything but a prison sentence

She lied to Ethan about developing/shipping a bioweapon, and she pretty much got Ethan killed twice and didn’t tell him about being mold after the events of RE7. Chris probably knows and is why it looks like he raised Rose himself from reading notes in the DLC

Its either that, or the "I hate this thing/ *proceeds to become thing" storyline. That one's really big in anime.
Yeah, it's a pretty common and generally easy way of delivering the message that "you should accept what makes you different" or "try understanding the things you hate instead of blindly feeling anger"

To be fair she did help an bioweapons company control a kidnapped and experimented on child and was fully on board with moving that very risky package intended for infiltration. Like she is a criminal the fact they let her go seems more out of pity for Ethan on Chris's part then anything else

A sad thing to think is Eva's mind may not have been absorbed into the megamycete, meaning everything that happened because of Miranda was for nothing. Which would explain why Rosemary was returned to her body at the end of her ritual instead of Eva entering it, that is if Eva is choosing not to appear to anyone in a desperate bid to make her mother stop because she is disturbed/ashamed/disgusted by what her mother has done. No matter the answer it's just sad no matter what.

He a good dad, it's just a shame that not all dads are as good as him. The world would be a much better place if there were more fathers like him in it. Rose may not have any friends yet but hope fully one day she have real ones who will never leave her side and will fight the forces of evil with her like in she ra the power of the princes? but not as girl e and glittery. they have guns and booms in stand and also have cool powers too. I hope that her father is free now from that Mega M seed stuff that places sucks like hell
The ending made me cry. I'm a girl with an abusive father, and I would give anything to have a dad like Ethan.

I love the confrontation before Ethan and Rose enter the portal. You can hear the frustration in Ethan's voice as he says "Get back from her. Stay away from my family"
I will reiterate what I said when the RE: Village Story Explained video came out (Damn, it's been a year already?): Mike really knows how to explain the story in a cohesive and entertaining way, explaining everything from the basic stuff that happens in the game, all the way to what ties this title to others in the series. Like deserved man.
I don’t see how Winters family is over when Mia was not explained at all. So unless she shows in RE9, where did she go? Even Rose mentions she hasn’t seen her in a long time. Also, we now have 2 “good” people with powers. Jake Wesker and Rose. I don’t see Capcom tying everything down storywise with so many characters out there.
Maybe she has PTSD from her husband dying, her daughter gone and different. She could of shut her self away from Rose and is estranged from her.
I used to think Ethan was a terrible protagonist and yet when I heard his voice in the dlc I literally screamed from joy. He’s now in my top 2🥲
Edit: since so many of you are criticizing me for having an opinion, I’d like to say I DONT HATE HIM ANYMORE. Village made me adore him and he is now my second favorite protagonist.

I get the distaste for another generic white guy protagonist but the DLC hit me right in the feels. He gets so much more character for someone who communicates in quick messages with one person.

We never see Ethan's face, but that doesn't matter. He doesn't really need a face; we know how he is. A loving, caring father and husband that does anything to protect his family. A great character that I did cry over when he passed. But at least Rose knows who he is, and what her father did for her and all the struggles he went through to be able to keep her safe.

I kinda had a feeling that Michael could've been Ethan Winters when he was first introduced. And I still can't believe that they couldn't had showed us what this man's face looked like. Like if this was the finale of the Winter Saga, then I would've like to see what Ethan's face looked like.

This bit of going through Rose's psyche and seeing her accept who she is, powers and all, really makes me want to see a more psychological survival-horror-oriented Persona game. It may seem like such a thing wouldn't be able to work, but I think it can. Just like psychological survival-horror games like Silent Hill, Persona does go into some real deep and dark themes, after all. Rose here especially makes me think of Maki from the very first Persona game, Aigis in Persona 3 FES: The Answer, and Labrys in Persona 4 Arena.

This was a "revisiting greatest scares" for the village location, while also being a self-discovery journey for Rose's affinity with mold. They repurposed the Mia mannequin for a different type of scare in the Beneviento section, which both amazed and terrified me. I knew interpreting the (literal) writing on the wall as Ethan was probably correct, but it was cool to see him defend Rose as she fell on through to the final battle, to find out for players just how Miranda persisted after her physical body was vanquished by Ethan. Best detail? Even in the emotional first official meeting and final goodbye between father and daughter, they never showed Ethan's face.
I guess it's not her mother's wedding ring Rose is wearing on her trip to the cemetery after all. It was Ethan's, a fitting souvenir of her struggles against Miranda and knowing that Ethan sacrificed everything so she could live life, not to be afraid of herself.

Hear me out, Resident Evil 9: Asylum. Your an inmate on an island prison and the warden is experimenting on the prisoners and the boss enemies are the head guard, big inmate, chef and finally the warden himself.
That was the FIRST plot for Code Veronica man.

I find it interesting how everyone infected with the mold is still "alive" to some extent. I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't revisit any of the Lords, but it was really great to see Ethan one last time. I just hope that Rose doesn't become a forgotten character.
I really do hope that in future games we will see rose as a side character or hell maybe even the protagonist herself. Maybe we will see her in re9 whenever they make it.

Man, Resident Evil has truly come a long way from 1996 😂 . I find the stories to be so deep and interesting, but at the same time i ask myself how the hell did they go from traditional survival horror to a supernatural lore? The mold is an infection or whatever, but it has Supernatural/paranormal elements to it... Didnt think Resident Evil would go this far, but nonetheless it's a deep story worth reading into. I personally am not much of a fan of this created aspect of RE, but i do still enjoy it oddly. What scratches my gamer itch is the fact that this all ties in to Mr. Spencer. I love how basically RE 8 was an origin story to how everything came together which truly is insane and mind blowing. Love it anyway lol

Honestly I really like Ethan you can see how much he cares for Rose and how much it is fleshed out ironically despite that he is made of mold he feels the most human out of most horror games I've watched
