As a woman, I find it disappointing that Caroline Wheeler is framing the Chancellor's gender as a shield against accountability for lying on her CV. Integrity and honesty are fundamental traits for any leader, regardless of gender. If I were in a high government role, I’d expect to be held accountable for such an act. Are we, as women, suggesting that character and transparency matter less for us? That’s not equality-it’s harmful to the progress we’ve made.

It Isn't about the Chancellor's ability or sex, it's really about her deceiving the public. Particularly while claiming others are dishonest and unethical she has been misrepresenting her own professional work history.

The controversy will mean Reeves is no longer Chancellor when the first reshuffle takes place if it is in the next year. The backbenches beckon. The calibre of the Blairite ascendancy who have been in Parliament for the last 15 years or so is amazing. The Labour front bench is full of ministers who put the Attlee government to shame. If you operated a small business Caroline, you'd know this woman has done the opposite of what Labour say they want. Growth.
Labour are intentionally destroying lives & livelihoods. Their choice to give Billions and Billions overseas and borrow hugely. Country is Trillions in debt, yet instead of supporting growth, they batter the productive Private sector, primarily SME, to reward all on the unproductive public purse
I don't care if she's a man or woman. Only, competent and economically literate. This Govt has not One who've run and grown a business and their destructive stupidity clearly shows... In all Private sector jobs, she's be immediately sacked for lying saying she has experience, when not... and she is neither intelligent or experienced for such a position

@@johnhaynes9910 Right, yes. Apparently we now live in a world where using the standard measure for debt in the private sector and across the world's largest economies is exactly the same as cutting taxes with no explanation of where the budgetary shortfall will come from. Not only will investment be more likely to make the money back through growth, but they actually have a mandate to do so.
And if you want to hop onto the next thing about gilt yields as @stuartwood5448 did, try actually comparing the 'spike' we saw on Budget Day 2024 to that of Truss' min-budget. If the markets wanted Reeves gone, she'd have been out the following week.

Just not the credentials she told everyone she had. & whenever I have been tempted to make that exaggeration let alone lie on a CV I have made sure that integrity came first; that is what most people do. She made a different choice - to lie. Fine if you get away with it, but as JP Morgan said way back - don’t get caught.
