Slippy gets a lot of shit but at least he helps out the most out of the three by providing you with a boss lifebar. Meanwhile Peppy has been riding on the barrel roll meme for over a decade .
Hey, have you ever heard of A Fox In Space? It's sort of exactly what you're looking for in terms of a semi-serious animated Star Fox series. Admittedly, it's entirely independent, so it only has a couple of full episodes out, but what it has so far is gold.
There's gonna be a third episode before Gafford moves on to The Violence, an original IP he intends to make commercially. But yeah AFIS episodes 1 and 2 are genuinely amazing works in their own right.
I think it was last year when the creator stated that the final episode was going to take up to 4 years to make and after that he will start his own animated show
I miss kiosks. I drank a 5th of calico and played guitar hero 2 for like 3 hours straight at Walmart. One of the employees kept coming back to watch me play. God I was so drunk. Can’t imagine I was impressive
Star Fox 64 is my perfect video game. It has the right amount of cheesiness, action, intrigue, spectacle, and silly moments. It's endlessly replay-able and quotable.
13:08 My dude needs to watch A Fox In Space immediately. I'm not one to really put fan projects on a pedestal but AFIS is genuinely a fantastic work of art to the point that I'd be hard pressed to imagine any other adaptation official or otherwise surpassing it.
the pc port is so cash money. can't wait for all the homebrew stuff. surprising just how much easier the dogfight missions are with framerate and resolution. and how much more fun aquas is now, yipee, i love all the decomps coming out.
Yeah, 3DS emulation proves they look great on big screens with filters and/or HD Texture, there's no reason for Nintendo to not release them on Switch.
Preferably not at $60 though 😬 I’d love to play the 3DS greats on better hardware (officially) but unless they add a lot there’s no reason for them to be priced higher than their original versions.
Some areas in Ocarina of Time 3D are way too bright when compared to the N64 original. For example, the final battle against Ganon completely loses its atmosphere in the remake, and that's without mentioning the censored dungeons. Star Fox on 3DS has a similar lighting issue when fighting Andross (most noticeable when you enter his room), and the new voices aren't that great. Now that both games have been ported to PC, hopefully someone will make a perfect fusion of both the 3DS and N64 versions of OoT and SF64.
I was always under the impression that falco was a pompous jerk because he was the better pilot and was bitter about fox being squadron commander. At least that’s the reason I recall from the snes manual
Matt's right in that there was a Nintendo Power Star Fox comic, which (unfortunately) didn't carry over any lore into the games. Highlights include Falco NOT being a snarky jerk-ass (although at one point Fox gets a bit crazed and Falco beats the crap out of him), Slippy having a girlfriend named "Croakella", Andross having a tragic backstory with his only friend being an android pig, and of course, furry-fan-service in Fara Phoenix.
I too have been longing for a Star Fox animated series since my days of being obsessed with Reboot, Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, and the Donkey Kong Country cartoon show. As a kid, I thought Star Fox 64 was like a game version of one of those shows and I could not for the life of me figure out why there was no animated series. Here you have a large cast of characters, a whole galaxy worth of locales, tons of bosses and epic spaceship battles. I genuinely can't think of a Nintendo game more worthy of a cartoon than this. ... mmmmmaybe Punch Out.
Star Fox was one of the games my dorm played exhaustively in college. It got to the point that we played the same path every single damn time to get the high score, so I sort of forgot what the regular path looked like.
There was a Nintendo Power comic based on the original Star Fox on the SNES that goes into Falco's backstory a LITTLE bit. They briefly explain that Falco was a punk street racer and Fox liked the cut of his jib and talked him into joining the Cornerian military academy. So that does explain his rude, rough and arrogant disposition, but not why he's such an asshole to Fox...though to be fair, he's only really mean to Fox once in that comic. Fox was going to fly off on what everyone thought was a suicide mission, mostly because of his daddy issues, and Falco beat him unconscious so they could lock him in the brig for his own safety. So he wasn't doing it to be a dick, it was one of those "you're my bro so I'm gonna have to beat some sense into you" moments. Not clear on why they felt the need to dial that up to the point where you legitimately have to wonder why Falco's even on the team in Star Fox 64.
Fun fact Matt: The 3DS has latin spanish dub and Falco's einstein line was translated to (I am putting it english here): "Hey Genius! I am on your side!"
15:09-15:26 Actually, you're thinking of Titania. In the Sector X mission, if you fail to destroy the robot in time, Slippy will try to shoot it or something only for the robot to slap him and send him onto the planet, and since Fox and Slippy have apparently been friends since school, he goes down to Titania to save him. This is true for both versions. Not to mention, if Slippy crash landed on Solar, he'd be kinda...dead. Falco: Nice!
So excited to see what mods will come out for this pc port! btw i'm making a StarFox-like game as well! since you mentioned EX-Zodiac and Wisker Squadron
For some reason, I can't shake the feeling that the teammates absolutely can take out Star Wolf members. I think I remember Slippy taking out Pigma on one of my playthroughs.
The 3ds version was relatively expensive for the longest time, that when I got it for 15 alongside A Link Between Worlds I was glad with that deal, only for the nintendo to announce the nintendo selects release of it a month after, similar thing happened with Xenoblade Chronicles 3d.
Playing this with the SNES control scheme feels so damn right (8bitdo Pro 2 if you're curious). I'd kill for the first three Panzer Dragoon games and Sin and Punishment to get the same treatment, but given how 'quirky' the Saturn's architecture is, I'm not holding out for the former.
You are hilarious sir, and I love your annoyance with the characters. If remember correctly I read in handbook Falco was pirate/criminal/thief that got recruited by fox so seems like rival/best friend. I believe mixing up when Slippy gets knocked to plant Titania. Were you come kill some ancient plant like creature.
The whole time that Matt was talking about the lack of Star Fox on Switch I was like "What are you talking about, there's a Star Fox game on Switch". Then I suddenly remembered that nope, Starlink wasn't a Star Fox game and it actually starred a bunch of characters that I had completely erased from my memory until now.
I have only played a little bit but so far it is very good. My only issue was the timing on the death animation of the attack carrier on Corneria, I felt like that explosions happened too early and too fast when he is yelling "You'll never defeat Andross!"
To think, Star Fox Zero's trailer or whatever, was kind of that. A teaser of an idea of a Star Fox anime, and what it would look like if we had a full series as such. Too bad it was only a short, and to promote the Star Fox Zero game.
Fun fact, I think Star Fox and F-Zero are actually in the same universe. There's Star Fox endings for one of the later games that reference it. So yeah, Humans are real, they just aren't involved in this mess. And I appreciate that. Why does Humanity have to always be involved in everyone else's space drama?
Never knew about this port. Going to try it. Always preferred the snes version. The worlds seemed more varied and "alive". I also recently discovered Starfox Event Horizon, a mod for Freespace Open. Pretty cool.
You know, I think you're right, I feel like I remember something in the Star Fox comic about why Falco's such a jerk. I just don't remember what it was.

... Was about to say "ummm I wonder ... WHAT HAPPUN? wink* wink*"... Then realise probably heard it 10000th time! I will just shut up and send you a 10$ super than, love you're work!
Pretty sure there's nothing they can do against the PC port, considering they still haven't taken down the Super Mario 64 or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask PC ports. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they tried taking down as many videos as they can of it though, considering they did do that with Mario 64 PC port videos, specifically tutorials on how to install it.
I'm in agreement about Nintendo should port 3DS Starfox 64. It's blasphemy for me to say this but I'd rather pay $60 for a switch Starfox 64 than DKC Returns.
Slippy gets a lot of shit but at least he helps out the most out of the three by providing you with a boss lifebar.
Meanwhile Peppy has been riding on the barrel roll meme for over a decade .
Until he learned how to rocket jump (RIP).
Hilariously, the 3DS port of Star Fox64 really does replace Einstein with genius.
Can't believe they canceled Einstein 😢
Falco is the local tsundere bird
Annoying bird
He’s just New York Italian-American coded
He's kinda missing the dere-dere, though...

Came here to same the same exact shit. Love the production.

My first run with the port I went the top/difficult route, and it reminded me that I hate the Aqua level. So this feels very YMMV. Haha!
All the 3DS remakes should be ported to Switch man. This, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask all look awesome
Yeah, 3DS emulation proves they look great on big screens with filters and/or HD Texture, there's no reason for Nintendo to not release them on Switch.
They need to put the HD Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports on there too. Who even HAS a Wii U (besides me)?
Preferably not at $60 though 😬

@@lilwyvern4 RetroWolf_YT is one example of someone who has a Wii U.
When I was younger, I used to play this and Kirby 64 at the hotel we'd frequently stay at that had N64s in some of the rooms. If you know you know!
I was always under the impression that falco was a pompous jerk because he was the better pilot and was bitter about fox being squadron commander. At least that’s the reason I recall from the snes manual
Star Fox 64... entertaining millions of people with countless memorable quotes since 1997!
Matt's right in that there was a Nintendo Power Star Fox comic, which (unfortunately) didn't carry over any lore into the games.

Thanks for making me aware of this. Wasn't aware this was even in the works. The Majora's Mask PC port was phenominal, so I'm looking forward to this.
Yoooooo the Nintendo Dome at La Ronde was where I also saw SM64 for the first time. That experience was legitimately mindblowing back in the 90s.
11:25 APA
Always Pounding Ass
Yo me and the furries respect that
Star Fox was one of the games my dorm played exhaustively in college. It got to the point that we played the same path every single damn time to get the high score, so I sort of forgot what the regular path looked like.
13:08 We did get a taste of what a Starfox anime could be with that animated short to promote Starfox Zero

Ah Zellers, always got excited to get the birthday cards from Zeddy or getting to eat at the restaurant.
Fun fact Matt: The 3DS has latin spanish dub and Falco's einstein line was translated to (I am putting it english here): "Hey Genius! I am on your side!"
The thing that I remember the most about Star Fox is the secret level where you shoot a slot machine. Man, that one was bizarre. lol
15:09-15:26

I played starfox 64 at least a billion times back in the 90s. fun times.
So excited to see what mods will come out for this pc port! btw i'm making a StarFox-like game as well! since you mentioned EX-Zodiac and Wisker Squadron

A star fox movie would just become furry Top Gun. Tom Cruise is already a perfect height to play Fox
13:12 It'd be cool to have some episodes in the same vein as the Star Fox Zero animated promo. At least we have _A Fox in Space_ though.
The level select cheat in this port is a game changer.
This game also came with the rumble pack...

Merci!
Thank you for reminding me that Treasure is all but dead. Now I'm sad.
The good news is that you can still play Ikaruga.
The company that made Gunstar Heroes? Damn..
StarFox 64, StarFox 64 3D AND Star Fox Zero are all remakes/re-imaginings of the SNES/SFC StarFox.
"They have their heads taken out and put inside"
Isn't that what happens in Armored Core?
The whole time that Matt was talking about the lack of Star Fox on Switch I was like "What are you talking about, there's a Star Fox game on Switch". Then I suddenly remembered that nope, Starlink wasn't a Star Fox game and it actually starred a bunch of characters that I had completely erased from my memory until now.
I hope the Switch 2 has a new installment, though at this point I'd even take a Star Fox 2 remake.
falco is mad because he was supposed to be the leader when james died . however fox was given the title by general pepper afer the even on venom
I love Star Fox good times 😊
If only this had a 4 olayer full campaign co op mode
Make it so all 4 have to share the same space, and can collide, but extend the maps a bit.
I mean the ar-wing does transform for all range mode so it must be a more manoeuvrable configuration
I have only played a little bit but so far it is very good. My only issue was the timing on the death animation of the attack carrier on Corneria, I felt like that explosions happened too early and too fast when he is yelling "You'll never defeat Andross!"
The nintendo dome at La Ronde.
Yeah, we know 😎
Any Starfox enjoyers here who haven't seen "a fox in space" good stuff. Almost that show Matt is after.
Someone is absolutely gonna make a 3DS modpack for this.
Blessings on a Monday
Soon this will be enhanced AF with all the MODs!
1:15 I thought they had their legs taken off and replaced with bionic ones?
Where's the link in the description? 1:00
You cant just dl and unzip it and play it. You need to add the Starfox 64 rom file.

Such an incredible and beautiful game 🎉
Oh man, I loved that Nintendo dome at La Ronde! Good memories.
You know, I think you're right, I feel like I remember something in the Star Fox comic about why Falco's such a jerk. I just don't remember what it was.
Has anyone tried out the multiplayer in this PC port yet? I have not seen any discussion on that at all online.
Cant believe the editor cut out Wolfs awesome intro music :(
I never played any Star Fox game growing up, don't think I knew anybody who did. The only flying games in my house were Red Baron (my dad's on PC) and Rogue Squadron (PC demo and then on N64).
Sorry to hear that.
Red Baron kicked ass. I was the jabroni without a 64 that would pick the tank during Star Fox multiplayer.
I'm still waiting for a game adaptation of the Star Fox Nintendo Power comic.
I too, would like a StarFox Movie, Anime, something!!
Oh also, a Zellers kisosk was my first experience with Soul Calibur 2
Falco is a blue ranger is all
Falco, we're hiring.
Best Starfox voices were the original. Team "Dooboobe dabe"
Charming for sure, but I prefer the VA.
64 has those voices as an unlockable, you eventually get "Lylatian" as a language option. It's good for a laugh, but the English voice acting is too iconic to pass up.
highly recommend the Recomp of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 64
wait there's a Pc Port now?
yes
3:14 I remember that meme… er, fad
Zellers?! Where Batman helps defeat high prices?!
La Round and Zellers?? You Canadian?
Fur Squadron is another Star Fox esque game. I impulse bought it on the Switch when it was on sale. I tried to like it but I just didn't.
The wire-frame, wanna-be synth-wave aesthetic was something that just felt five years out of date.
@@junibug6790 Fur Squadron is getting a Sequel, and it look better.
Oh Nintendome, the only time and place I was able the try the Virtual Boy!
Haha I played it there for the only time too. Telroboxer was awesome regardless of the hardware.

Feed good boi Wolf a treat.
could try that indie starfox with furries .... Whisker Squadron? Or try Ex Zodiac
I'm actually in the middle of modding the game...
1:53 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
awesome port of a true classic but.... how long before nintendo tries to take this video down?
Pretty sure there's nothing they can do against the PC port, considering they still haven't taken down the Super Mario 64 or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask PC ports. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they tried taking down as many videos as they can of it though, considering they did do that with Mario 64 PC port videos, specifically tutorials on how to install it.
They can't because it doesn't use their code.
You have to bring your own ROM, so not much for Nintendo to get them with.
Am I the only one disappointed he went the standard way on mission 1?
I'm in agreement about Nintendo should port 3DS Starfox 64. It's blasphemy for me to say this but I'd rather pay $60 for a switch Starfox 64 than DKC Returns.
I thought Star Fox Command was a pretty good game. I apologize for nothing.
0:20 That song again 😂
Can't wait for the VR mod.
Falco's in love with Fox and he doesn't know how else to deal with his emotions. Be nice.
Falco is better than Fox...tf?! 😂
I hate those 60fps ports of games, which animations was not made for such high frame rate. It looks so ugly.
