I think you should do a nuclear power plant. Nuclear power plants are more common In the northeast. You could fill the industrial area around the water treatment plant with a steel mill. They're also more common in the northeast
I've driven by that plant a bunch before, its the one on the Merrimack river between I-293 and NH-3A, on the other side of the river from the turnpike and US-3. I live about 15 minutes south of Manchester (in Nashua)

Fully agree on the McMansion. As a city planner to be, they are an absolute nightmare. They have been planned for the car, and makes it frankly impossible to get good public transport down in the area. Often, biking is not an option since the distances are too big. To pack it all in one sentence: "The car creates distances, that only cars can cover."

That is what a McMansion is to the person who owns one. As for the rivers in the northeast united states, they are navigable by small flat bottom barges and boats, which when those cities were established provided access to outside markets. Also provided an easy water supply for the town, as well as a sewage dump for the town.

I don’t know about the rest of New England, but in the towns where I grew up in CT there was an oil power plant, and Hartford, and various other cities around here had a nuclear power plant. So, just googled, and it seems that natural gas power plants and nuclear power plants make most of the electricity up here in New England, it’ll probably be easy to find one on google earth. P.S. According to google, oil power plants in New England make up 1.1% of all the electricity produced.

Easy way to move furs and timber without trucks or trains. As for McMansions, preach! The average American household size continues to shrink but average he average new home size continues to grow. Last checked, the median new home was 2500+ sqft. It’s about affordability as much as preference. The bigger the house and the property, the bigger the price tag. If we would shrink lot sizes and home sizes, more people could live more affordably in these new developments. Maybe hydro power? I know Quebec is huge on hydro. I know they sell a lot of excess power to the northeast. Perhaps a large power substation to illustrate that power is bought far-away? High voltage transitioning to local delivery? I will say substations in general are under represented in most Cities Skylines builds.

I imagine that American cities are built where they are for the same reason European cities aren't built on navigable rivers, the closer you are to a water source the easier it is to have those necessary water services.

It's just a term for large houses which are mass-produced, often with inferior materials/construction, trying to emulate nice houses. They have a bad rep because they tend to be all about trying to look "grand" without having much thought put into the design, and they're either built all in a row of identical houses in new developments or slapped into the middle of an existing neighbourhood where they don't mesh well with surrounding houses. Where I'm from, it's also common for developers to cut down all the trees, then building a McMansion right up to the edge of the block, replacing nice greenery with a big, blocky eyesore.
