    Asha, you are the greatest fitness skating instructor EVER! I have outgrown my years of hockey now that I am 30 and I have pivoted to fitness skating with a new pair of Powerslide Swell 110s. It took some getting used to and over the past two weeks I have implemented many of your drills and skating techniques! Thank you for taking the time to make the videos, Asha. We skaters really appreciate you! #triskateforlife

    Hi Asha, your tutorials are always illuminating. They are so clear and well explained that it's difficult to do more.
    I'm a skier and I started rollerblading to get similar sensations while skating downhill. I don't like speed neither on skis nor on skates, so I use the techniques you suggested to control the speed. When the slope is steep or there's not enough space to do a long radius turn, I control the speed by adding a soul slide at each turn. I guess it's a movement similar to your lunge turn, with the weight on the inner foot, but the external leg extends to the front-outside, sliding and braking.
    Maybe this could be of interest for your next tutorials.

    One question I have after watching this video: In what situations are parallel turns better than lunge turns and vice versa? When should I apply a lunge turn, and when should I apply a parallel turn?

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. At higher speeds or when you need to turn tighter then Lunge Turns are more effective as leaning the body forwards helps to tighten up the turns (as long as that front knee is bent correctly and you are ok on outside edges). Hope this helps.

    I was wondering which method was better using parallel turns or lunge turns?
    The parallel turns look easier to master because most skaters are familiar with them, but maybe lunge turns are more stable because you are lower and a slightly wider stance?
    You make it look so easy and logical, thank you.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good assessment. Most skaters begin learning the Parallel turn first because its easier to weight bare on the back leg in Scissor than the front leg. Many many skaters in the Lunge turn d NOT have the correct position and weight distribution, most are too close to 50/50 and not 80/20 on the front leg. This then makes the Lunge turn less stable. But you are right, if the Lunge is done correctly then it is more stable at higher speeds because its lower and wider.
      If you'd like a detailed lesson on the Lunge turn, it is one of the Free Trials I'm offering on my new Video Courses site. This link will take you to the page where you can choose "Free Trial" and receive the Lunge turn. This should prepare you for using it on slopes when it is mastered. Hope you enjoy it, let me know.

    Hi Asya/team.
    How to overcome my problem, my dominant/stronger leg is right leg. I can scissor with right leg leading (infront) but can manage to take my left leg to scissor (lead) hence i can only parallet turn to the right turn, while trying to make paraller turn to the left, the left leg wont lead and the right leg will try to lead hence i can only do A turn or "little stepping" turn to the left.
    Any exercise to correct my left leg? Thanks

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Everyone has that problem. The solution is to practice scissors with left leg in front, in a straight line, 60% of your weight on the right leg (it won't take lead if you put weight on it), and remember to flex your knees quite a bit. Then, after days and days of conscious practice, whenever you skate and need the scissors position use this one, not your favorite. In time you will feel comfortable with both sides, and that will be the moment to start the parallel turn to the left. This approach applies to any skill you find easy on one side and hard on the other. Double the practice on the unfriendly side until one day you will not be able to choose one over the other because both will be even.

      Hi Olivier, sorry to miss you I was just in Paris in early September this year. I always return every 1-2 years......
      Yes I'm using the Powerslide Taus now, 3x110 with trinity frame. before I was wearing the 3x110 with Evo boot but without the Trinity frame ad really I didn't think it was possible to improve on the Evolution but the Trinity frame is amazing, the same big wheel size but much lower set up (nearly 2cm lower which is a huge difference). This makes the Tau amazingly agile and responsive to my foot's instructions. Can't recommend them enough (although Tau and Evo boot feel very similar and are very comfortable).

    Tem algum exercício pra praticar que ajude a soltar mais meu corpo pra fazer essas curvas mais soltas? Algum exercício que ajude também a abrir a tesoura (acho que é um dos erros que tenho com as curvas, da minha tesoura não ter muito equilibrada e aberta por conta desses pesos de perna)
    Obrigado!!

    Hey Asha! I have a question, I'm learning curves this way (parallel/lunge) that I really want to learn, and I have some hard time understanding the weight of the legs, and my body doesn't keep with the turns (my skates doesn't lean much and I feel I'm about to fall any minute)..
    There is any exercise to help loose the body for this turns? Some exercise that helps open up the scissors more too (I think one of the mistakes I make on turns is not having a balaced scissor maybe)
    Thanks!

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oi. Sou o Sergio do Team Skatefresh. Primeiro pratique so tesoura em linha reta, sem virar. A tesoura tem 60% do peso na perna de trás e a distância entre patins (largura) e muito pouca. Um patin está na frente do outro mas não precisa estar exatamente alinhado. Sim precisa estar bem na frente. A última roda de um patin debe estar mais à frente do que a primeira do outro. Tem que flexionar muito os joelhos para poder fazer isso, flexionar como para sentar numa cadeira. Si ainda não pode tenta de a pouco ate conseguir. Tal vez em duas semanas pode. So com uma boa tesoura vai conseguir fazer curva paralela, vai manter o peso 60% na perna de trás, com uma inclinação sutil para virar. Na curva lunge a tesoura é diferente com 80% do peso na perna dianteira, mais difícil. Não tente curva lunge sem fazer curva paralela primeiro, porque seu corpo precisa estar acostumado a curva paralela que é uma técnica básica. Não pratique esto em ladeiras até que esteja perfeito no chão normal. Para cursos em português com mais detalhes pode visitar aqui inlineskatecourse.com/courses-po

    When is the best time to use the parallel turn over the lunge turn and vice versa

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question.
      The lunge turn is more efficient at turning in a smaller diameter than the parallel turn at the same speed, so when your path/road/area is narrower its best to use the lunge turn, when you have more space the PT is fine.

    I'm struggling to allow myself to lean to the outside of the foot to start the turn, is this something you see often?

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes its absolutely normal to struggle with the outside edges especially if your knee bend isn't 100% correct ad enough. Most people don't bend the knee enough and just tilt out their ankle to create the outside edge. This won't make your body feel stable on the outside edge so your body will fight it and that's the 'struggle'. Why don't you test out the Free Trial I have of the Lunge turn on my new website. This is a more detailed lesson with some very important aspects that I never mention on youtube and which I think might really help you. Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. And how is your scissors position going in a straight line? You are probably on an inside edge. You first need to be on center edges for both feet, going forwards, without any turn. Then you will get to turns leaning on the outside edge of the front skate, but it's just a subtle move.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. It has to do with how securely your skates are "attached" to the floor during the turn and also your speed of course. You can't lean into a turn without a minimum amount of speed and more speed will allow more lean into the turn. But if your technique isn't spot on then your body wont allow you to do the turn at speed (catch 22 situation and the lean eludes you).

I am absolutely sure that after watching and training with that video class you will have a very different experience to your turns. Are you up for the challenge? Would you like to do a video testimonial and show us a 'before' and 'after' video???????

    mini skirt & tights? weird IMO. i'm a 100% pads & protection kinda guy. like the pink floyd song - DON'T BE SURPRISED IF A CRACK APPEARS IN THE ICE UNDERNEATH YOUR FEET (or something like that)

      I appreciate your safety consciousness and I wear wrist guards and helmet 1000% of the time. I don't wear knee pads when Im teaching because I'm often asking students to look at my knee caps and where they are in relation to other parts of my body and knee pads cover up all that detail. I'm also injured at the moment which means I'm not falling at all because Im nt pushing anything so I\ve not fallen in years since protecting my injury by staying within my comfort zone. But Ive been skating 30+ years and can control that. There is s till risk which I understand. But very little when Im teaching.

    you get away with a camera on the lower end or with a less optimal shoot if the content is great but you will degrade the fantastic content always with a terrible audio.
    To bring the audio on a superb level it doesnt need much investment, that is the good news.
