    Hi Scout.....thanks for sharing. Nice to see the lot and your old bus. I agree with the silicone carbide and that it's hard to clean up - use as little as possible and keep working it - it will break down into a finer and finer paste. That's how we used to polish valve seats after grinding (just add a bit more oil as needed to keep slurry loose). Be safe and have a happy day!

    Excellent video, thanks. Enjoyable diversion with the white puffy clouds and the old timing device. Amazing how that knife seemed to be of decent quality. The blades had good snap to them upon opening and closing. My first experience with a knife from pakistan was that it broke where the blade met the handle while I was field dressing a whitetail deer. I have since bought a few damascus fixed blades off ebay. They are wickidly sharp, but I have problems with the handles breaking

    10:10 Lawn Question: As a kid in PA. I loved fishing because I lived beside the Susquehanna River. At night, you could wet the lawn and worms would come to the surface. I think they thought it was raining? You simply put them in a jar for fishing the next day. Would that work there? I called them Ring Worms, because they had a ring on their body and they were HUGE!

      Nick- Funny story between us bus drivers, when I first started in about 1985 the only way you could relieve yourself on certain runs was at the end of the line before you picked anyone up, you stood in the rear door well and relieved yourself in a cup... Well one day a driver just finished his business and returned to his driver seat where he opened the window and threw out the contents of his cup- The only problem is another driver who pulled up behind him was just walking up to ask him a question when he got a face full of... =D

      ScoutCrafter. Class story John, back in the seventies before my time on the buses I used to hear stories of drivers dreading doing the school runs in the old Bristol double deckers as invariably mummy’s little darlings would relieve themselves down the periscope on top of the drivers head.

    Used to hunt through my granny’s house ( with her blessing!) when I was little looking for “ treasures “ as I called them. Theoldbrass key from my dads clockwork boat that made one voyage only before disappearing beneath the waves at the seaside. (1932?) this was in the seventies when I was about the same age. Still got that key

    Great work on that knife. This video came at a great time! I have an old low-quality knife life that. I think it was my dad's when he was a kid. I have been thinking of restoring it, but didn't know where to start. Great info here. One question-what grits are you using on the belt sander to clean up the blade?

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul- You know I never look at grits anymore! I look at the project and see if I need course medium or fine and grab a belt by feel! These blade were a little beat up so I had no fear of ruining them! 😃👍

    Hi John. Don't know if you ever read the captions on your videos. Sometimes I use captions so I can watch while it is noisy. I noticed long ago that the captions are at best sketchy. 😆
    On my video the opening is , "Hi I'm old snail ox." Just now your's was, "Hi everybody scout crafty here again."
    I once had the entire script of a tool repair video typed up. Hilarious! No wonder I get odd questions as to what happened in videos. I can't imagine what it comes out as in Hindi or Spanish.

    So you were mowing while holding your phone to make the video? It was kinda cool to watch, but that had to be difficult. At your property there upstate, it looks like you have two sheds. Is one a shed and the other a small cabin that you can hang out and/or sleep in? The knife from Pakistan looks old and we'll made. When I look at an old knife I look to see if the metal plates that make up the body of the knife are bowed. They are frequently bowed inward. The Pakistan knife looked perfectly straight. I think it's a fine pocket knife with many more good years of service in it. I seem to remember Magdad using bits of scotchbrite pad in the knife grooves which he pushes with the popsicle stick. Maybe try that next time. 😀

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James! Yes- One shed is a shop and mower storage and the other is set up to relax and unwind! =) I have to try MagDads scotchbrite trick!

    That’s an older Pakistan knife. Most of them were Buck 110 clones from the 80’s. They are making some pretty nice knives in Pakistan today.

    Another great video. Like yourself I didn't expect too much once I heard Pakistan but I guess they can make a better knife than I thought. They do make a lot of surgical instruments tho so maybe one of those guys made it. I saw you were looking for acreage. I don't tell just anybody this lol but if you get outside NY WV is nice(and probably a lot cheaper than up there(but don't let it out lol). Hope you find your dream place wherever you want it. Take care.

    Tired out from mowing "upstate", does that John Deere steer that hard ? LOL looks nice and the fresh smell is also good. I remember when I lived in the real upstate you push the mower in one direction and turn around and come back your lawn would have that stripped affect.

    I have had a few good quality Pakistani tools that surprised me. I have a Roman Gladius reproduction that’s got excellent steel and the only thing that is slightly so-so is the fitment of the horn handles. But it’s cosmetic and the sword is rock solid and the steel is tough and has not rolled on me.
    How did you get the lapping compound out?
