I really love this cartoon. I have watched Grendizer in early 80's in Saudi Arabia, when I was a kid. Although this anime might not be very popular in Japan it has become cult in KSA since in early 80s. I can't imagine someone become a sane grown-up person, without watching Grendizer... ;). Being in KSA, we are really lucky to have an opportunity to watch this wonderful cartoon series in our childhood. Grendizer appeared for the first time in Arab World at the 80's as a complete two-season Arabic dubbed show. It gained a huge popularity among the Arab children in the 80s, especially because dubbed cartoons are very rare at that time. Grendizer popularity in Arab World even very much exceeded Mazinger's; especially in Saudi Arabia where Mazinger has never been shown on TV. Even today, the struggle of the hero Actarus (aka Duke Fleed) against the evil hordes of "Great Strateguerre" Vega give me shivers down my spine! BTW, among the corny aspects of the show, which add to its appeal : why the heck does Vega keep sending his giant robots ONE BY ONE (gettings their asses kicked by Grendizer episode after episode) instead of sending them all in one big assault? Beats me. Talk about a lousy galactic overlord! Seeing a Grendizer episode is like a fountain of youth to me ! I just can't get enough of its cheesy charm!

Grendizer, known in French Canada, France, some parts of Europe and South America as Goldorak was my favorite childhood hero when it came around on French Canadian TV. Goldorak's supposed to be 30 meters tall and Gundam go around 15 meters to 18 meters, which explain why Char's MS is so small compared to him Mazinger Z was supposed to be 15 meters tall actually, but since this is a revisit, I guess they decided to make him taller to stand up to Greater and Goldorak. Pretty neat kit, I'd get it if I had the money. Would've been nice to see it with it saucer, but the arms in the docking sequence are the side of the disk and I guess that would've been highly difficult to reproduce correctly.

The Middle East had their childhood around Grendizer. It is possibly the most recognizer mecha, and one of the most known anime. Heck, we loved it before we knew its an anime and not a cartoon or if there's a difference.
Grendizer is 30m tall so it makes sense that it's a full torso bigger. We'd have to see a comparison between the RX-78-2 Gundam and the base Mazinger Z model to see if they're in proper scale, as both are SUPPOSED to be 18m
The Mazinger z infinity model is around the same size as the grendizer model. My assumption is that they simply upgraded Mazinger and made it bigger for the movie, because it’d be weird for them to even label them with a scale if they weren’t gonna follow it.
Wish they used the default UFO Spazer instead. Still getting this cause it goes well with Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger. All that's left is Getter Robo G for a final dynamic special team.
I’m sure Bandai won’t make 1/144 scale kits of some of the larger super robots, but a 1/144 Ideon or Daitarn 3 would look awesome towering over any other Gundam kit.
As a guy from the 80s I grew up on super robots anime and the UFO Robo Grendizer (and all of the Go Nagai work) has to be on top of the list. So watching this review made me feel like a relic especially when you said you have no idea what it is LOL. Believe it or not Grendizer was not supposed to be created in the first place as Go Nagai was supposed to make the Mazinger Trilogy (Mazinger, Great Mazinger and Mazinkaizer) but he came up with the idea of Grendizer in the middle of the Trilogy. The company didn’t like the idea especially since the main character that polit Mazinger was going to be reduced to a sub-character that was going to pilot the Double Sapazer. But Go Nagai went with it and the legend was born.
What..how does someone get into Gundam and not know UFO Grendizer? It seems like this classic stayed hidden from the USA, while Europe, Middle East/Africa and Asia had an entire generation growing up with it!

If Bandai is smart they will look into making more of the shogun warriors for the infinitism line. and in all respect, they need to make the saucer for old Grendy.. otherwise he doesn't feel the same... and if they did a Grendizer with a saucer they could always do an obscure Gattaiger with saucer... that would be very neat and I know I will get anything from the infinitism line

super robot wars T states that the Mazinger Z from infinity is 25 meters tall. So I’d say that yeah, the scale is correct.

The Mazinger robots are WAY bigger than Gundams. They are like Big O super giant robots.
