1. Insert an existing programmed working flip key remote fob into Chevy Malibu ignition cylinder.
2. Turn ignition to the ON position, then back to OFF position.
3. Remove the existing remote fob flip key and within 5 seconds insert new remote fob flip key and turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds.
4. Turn key OFF then back to ON. The remote fob flip key is now programmed. Start vehicle to test key.
This programming procedure will program a new flip key remote fob to the following Chevrolet Models:
2013 Chevy Chevrolet Malibu
2014 Chevy Chevrolet Malibu
2015 Chevy Chevrolet Malibu

Worked for my 2015 Malibu. Bought a key off Amazon for 15 and found a locksmith to cut it for 30. Dealerships and other big name companies wanted 200+ . Programming took less time then writing this comment. Thanks for saving me time, money, and headaches.

Bought two keys off of Amazon $25. Took them to my local Ace Hardware to get them cut. Programmed them in the parking lot and now have two working key fobs. Thanks a ton. Was quoted $210 to get them cut and programmed by two companies so I saved about $175.

Went to my Ace Hardware in Quincy, IL and they would not cut my key. Said I had to buy the key from them to get it cut. They said they would order a key from a dealer and cut it for me. I didn't even ask the price. I just walked out.

My 2015 malibu LS has the anti theft deterrent system on since yesterday morning around 4am. I believe it happened when water got into my broken key fob minutes before it went into anti theft deterrent mode. Hopefully getting a new key programmed it will work!

Or did you use the water damaged one once water dried?

If I bought the car from a second hand buyer and the only key I have was the one without the fob just the simple key would I be able to go to the dealership to buy a fob already pre cut and still use this method to program the new fob and have both keys work or will I mess something up with the cars computer? Trying to save some money here dealership wants $80 for key and $150 to program

Will this work for the remote start button also. I heard on the key fob from Amazon which are the 2 that I bought. This option might not work on the remote start feature.
if the vehicle has the remote start option then yes - the key needs to match your vehicles options
Will I be able to program a key fob if the anti theft system is active? My 2015 malibu needs a replacement key because the old one won't let me unlock the doors and deactivate the theft system.
Can't say for sure - I've seen it work and I have also seen it not work with the Anti theft system triggered

It is a 2014 Malibu. The key works after it flips open but is stubborn about flipping open. It flips open part way then stops.
It's not too difficult - We don't have a video for that but I'm sure you can find one on TH-cam
What if the buttons on the fob no longer work but the key itself starts the car? Will that still work to program a new fob?

The Remote start feature isn’t working on either of my replacement key fobs. They are identical to the original everything works fine besides remote start, all it does is open the trunk like the trunk button. It’s a 2015 Malibu. How can I get the remote start to work like it did on the original fob?

Yes - the whole flip key programs at the same time
Does not work for me, 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco. Service Theft Deterrent System is displayed in the DIC and the theft lock symbol remains on but it will allow me to start the vehicle only if used after the programmed key starts the vehicle. Also tried following the instructions in owner's manual with no success whatsoever. The keyfob I'm trying to reprogram was previously programmed to a 2013 Chevy Cruze Eco as the spare key. Any ideas? Thanks
The used key you are trying to use is the problem, they need to be unlocked or "flashed" before they can be programmed to a different vehicle.

Doesn't work for my 2013 Malibu. It appears to work, but only because the other (fully functional) key was also in the car. As soon as I took the functional key more than 10 feet away, the other key would not start the engine.
I wasn't able to program the remote. Don't know what I did wrong. Tried it 50 times. There is a display on the dash that shows a car with a lock symbol on it. When I put the original key it. It dissapears then when I put the replacement key. It remains there and I can't turn it on
There may be an issue with the key you are using

What do you mean by have the key cut?
The blade of the key needs to be cut
The dash display should show a message saying key fob reprogrammed
Some vehicles do, some do not
