I first heard of the Funny Girl musical from watching her as Rachel Berry talk about wanting to play in it on Glee. To see Lea play in it in real life is like full circle.

Her tone is so magical omg. It really draws you in. This is even better than her recorded glee version.

Funny, I was just coming on the comment about her tone, which is just glorious. I love how her voice has matured and how she’s gained more control and mastery of it. She’s not as thrilling as Barbra was but her voice is still stunning.

If anything, I hear her making very different choices, smartly using her voice without straining it, knowing that she still has seven performances to do over the next week. I think comments about her trying to be Barbra are just a tired retread of criticisms that honestly do not hold up.

As an international glee fan I came to know about broadway through her. Her voice is what inspires me the most. I hope she has grown into a better human now because a voice like her's deserves to be reckoned. I wish nothing but the best for her. And I hope she releases more albums in the future.

As an international fan, I want to say that Lea introduced Broadway to a lot of us at a young age. She was passionate about it on & off camera, and she made Broadway attractive for people that has never set foot in America. That's why watching this now, after all these years, is so touching.

I just saw her on Broadway last week and she just does Jimmy Fallon!!! She was amazing ! She got so many standing ovations in the first act! You don’t like her, you hate her- but you can’t deny this girl her talent!
I hope as she’s matured, started appreciating life, becoming a mom she’s also become more secure and empathetic. I know people I didn’t used to like when I was younger who did the work and became better people. I love all the Glee cast but hands down she’s the most talented singer of them all.

This song is really difficult to sing, in my opinion, this song is more harder than don’t rain on my parade and my man. Lea really did an brilliant job.

Not many singers can perfect the singing while talking part and then to hit the high notes right afterwards is amazing.
I agree, simple is always harder! Also isn’t it the lower notes that are hardest for some ie, “but I don’t know.” I think it was raised a step for Beanie and they returned it to the original key because Michelle can sing anything.

Technically she is Barbara... are people forgetting that Funny girl is based off an actual comedy actress and is nothing like how she is portrayed on boradway?? Maybe one day we will get an accurate version but since Barbara did so good on her run of funny girl it looks like Fannys identity was stolen in the process.

Taken as its own performance this is truly brilliant. Lea is an amazing talent and she is truly making the role her own, to magnificent effect. To do so in the ENORMOUS shadow that is Barbra Streisand, and to take on this role that is so synonymous with that one singular megawatt of a talent is truly impressive.
Proof that this is what happens when you do a bad casting on any Broadway show. Beautiful performance, this would have been nominated for the TONY'S had they chosen her from the beginning. This was just lovely, reminded me of Barbara Streisand
I absolutely agree. I didn't see Beanie as Fanny (I loved her in Hello, Dolly) but had Lea originated the reprisal role, she would have been nominated for the Tony.

They say the same things about Leah they said about Barbara back in the day. Here you see she delivers. She has excellence. She takes care of herself and basically works her ass off making it look easy. Vocally she does enough orginal inflection to satisfy our ears but does not imitate Barbara. I think I just became a fan. I would go see her if I was in New York. It is awesome to see someone live their dream. Can we celebrate that and maybe live one of our own.?
They definitely NEVER said Babz did even HALF the things they've said about Lea. This was a stunning performance, we don't need delusion atop it.

this is my favorite song from funny girl and one of my favorites from all musicals ever. while i was never a big fan of lea michele, i can't deny her great talent and here you can see she brought some new personality to the song. it sounds more etherial and romantic than ever. her version is beautiful.

She went back to the original score (the way Streisand sang on the cast album) instead of copying the movie version. And made it her own. Brava!

After this performance, I hope we can put to rest several things. First, the comparisons to Barbra Streisand. I'm old enough to have heard and been a fan of Streisand's when she first started out. And frankly I don't think any comparisons are fair, to either Lea or Barbra. They're BOTH two of the most amazing singers to have come along in my lifetime, and I'm 73 years old. Also, so Lea may have been a "diva" and difficult to work with on "Glee". I imagine a lot of you aren't even old enough to have heard the stories about Streisand when she started out. Or the "diva" behavior she herself "supposedly" exhibited, during the filming of "Funny Girl", for example. We've all behaved and reacted badly, embarrassingly, regretfully when we were young. With luck we all "atone" and learn from our mistakes as we mature. But now, with the Internet EVERYONE has an opinion. Everyone is a critic. And everyone it seems is guilty of making silly, knee-jerk comments when we aren't even privy to the facts of what really transpired. So give the girl a break and simply acknowledge her talent and what a fine performance this is. Truly.

Broke. My dad introduced me to Funny Girl from a young age & Broadway & this song just always puts me In my feelings! My bf and myself are welcoming our first this November and I have put together a birth soundtrack and this is one of the songs on it! We can’t wait to welcome our son to a world with a song like this, even at 32 it still hits me just right!
