    I've been watching a few videos about the difference and felt like I sort of got it but being told that ip addresses tell you WHERE you are but not WHO you are explained it perfectly for me, thank you.

    Thank god some one finally explained this. I know what they are, how they are assigned, where they come from, where in the OSI layer they are, how to trouble shoot them, the list goes on. But I have trouble explaining why we need both, and no one can simply answer that question. It's always, Mac address is a physical address and IP address is a logical address blah blah blah.... thank you for making this video, now I can explain it too.

    impressive. I agree that MAC is useful and efficient for local communications. Imaging a couple of hosts which don't attach to ip, how can they communicate with each other? how can they identify themselves in a local area network?

      @@sunnyclassroom24 hi, please you said ip address changes with network. so what of the phones that have double sim-cards, why do they have only one IP address combines & if you change one of those SIM cards what will happen?

  • @rewardx
    @rewardx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    1) What happens if we just use MAC address alone, and 2) what happens if we just use IP address alone?
    MAC address tells us “who” you are which will never change, and the IP address tells us “where” you are, which can change. Both IP and MAC address makes sure the message is delivered to the right device on the right network. They work together perfectly in TCP/IP world.

    when i have different IP addresses than why just not use this address as to send the printing data to the printer.
