  • I needed to make a magic wand at short notice. If you want to see what happens when a bandsaw blade breaks, this is the video for you.

    Perfect timing! My granddaughters asked for Harry Potter style wands just yesterday. The tip about not poking eyes out had slipped my mind so your comment has allowed me to make the appropriate design changes. Thanks again Richard.

    Wow, I've been watching a lot of fancy wood turning with epoxy. But this is so much more intricate, its fascinating.

    What a cool project and a great gift for a 4 year old. Really enjoyed watching the skew work. Have decided that I really need to work on those skills and have been watching as many skew videos as I can find. The bandsaw breakage was guaranteed since you were both making a video and had a narrow time window to complete the project.

    Interesting, having just broken my 6th band saw blade I was wondering what I was doing wrong or if I had a bad batch. Several have broken with little or no pressure on the blade. I have the same Laguna saw (with break 😊) and don’t think I have the tension too high. Any thoughts? Love seems your skew work.

    How timely. I just came in to watch videos after breaking a blade. It was a very tired blade with a lot of hours on it, but still sharp. Was going to change it out for a fresh blade, but it broke on what was supposed to be the last cut. And, I was cutting wand blanks out of scraps. Sigh.

    Behold, the Wand of Dragons! That's lovely figured wood and a very lucky young wizard. Had you cut the teeth, what yould you have used? Any tips for bandsaw safety? Many thanks for another instructive and inspiring video.

    • @RichardRaffanwoodturning
      @RichardRaffanwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My bandsaw-safety basics are: have as little blade exposed as possible; get my fingers behind the blade as soon as possible; use push sticks/blocks; never force the wood into the blade; use a sharp blade. That's absolute basics. I use blades until they break or are very near breaking when micro splits develop on the back of the blade. On reflecton I had time to pyro some teeth or chip carve but not the time to think about it. The wand is a hit with the wizard.

    Richard, do you release the blade tension when not in use? But, then, it may always be in use. Have you tried the high ductile low tension blades from Timberwolf?

    • @RichardRaffanwoodturning
      @RichardRaffanwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've always kept the blade tensioned. I've always resharpened my bandsaw blades th-cam.com/video/StWj3KaklHI/w-d-xo.html and used them until they break or lose their set. I'd not heard of Timberwolf

      Taking it for what it’s meant to be; a safe toy a four year old who will have lots of fun playing something that was made by The Maestro Himself! Go out to the shop and turn something real quick for the Little One. I’m not going to over think it just like I won’t get overly critical of someone’s spelling. ( My spelling is terrible )
