    Cole, you have a real depth of understanding of farming. Keep sharing that in your videos. I enjoy the banter between you and your dad. Perhaps you can share a little more of the science behind what you’re doing. I, for one, would appreciate it. Your drone footage is always awesome! I’m just a city boy in Los Angeles, but I enjoy you sharing your world with us. Keep up the good work.

    Despite the hardship of lost crop, I want to say keep going with this awesome youtube content. It's so informative and is keeping up with modern times, you're doing a great job hosting. I think you're reaching an audience of a lot of millennial who would never have been interested or now know about these things without such attractive videos. Often young ones totally cast thoughts about agriculture and farming away, they just eat the food in front of them without realising what goes into it.

    West of Mount Vernon about 5 miles our Corn we planted is a complete loss. 60+ mile an hour winds can really just decimate any field just like you showed. It was so difficult to plant this year, I heard somewhere around only 30% of crops got planted this year. We had one hell of a time getting our corn in and its just gone. Im sorry to see what happened to your guys crop Cole. 👏🏼

    I'm a new subscriber and really enjoy your channel. I come from the agriculture industry as well only I came out of the cattle ranching side. We didn't do any farming except for putting up hay for the cows. But I see you raise real good looking cattle as well. Anyway I just wanted to say that if them caterpillars are even half as bad as what you showed us I would be Spraying them and fast. Really sorry for your loss in your other fields. That's always very difficult to deal with loss of income in the agricultural industry regardless of what it may be. I hope and pray to God that ya'll are still blessed in whatever way to offset your losses. God bless

    For people who didn’t come from the farming background they have no idea what the farmers face.. from the large operations to the family farms they deal with the ever changing weather patterns... ringing their hands wondering whether all the hard work is going to pay off or put them under.. we are so blessed to live in such a diverse country but most people in this day and age have no idea where the food on their table comes from. Keep up the fight... millions of American families rely on the hard-working dedicated farmers.... most years many just hope to break even.. i’ve watched my parents for decades and I’ve wondered why in the world they continue to do what they do but I think God every day that they and those like them continue the struggle!

    Green snap is a pain. We had some pretty good green snap in our area a few years ago & it sure can make harvest difficult. A neighbor of mine had a field with mile long rounds & he could only pick up the corn going one way so it took him dang near twice as long to harvest. It doesn't do wonders for your yield either. I hope things get better for you. Thanks for the video.

    • @SonneFarms
      @SonneFarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One issue is it would be too wet to get into the field since it is right after a big rain. Also, at this point we still had home that we would get a measurable amount of corn.

  • @airforce1393
    @airforce1393 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Same thing happened to us a few years back. A corn field got sprayed with 24d instead of pesticides. We still have no idea how the sprayer operator f***ed that up. The corn is chopped for silage for dairy cattle. So a lost field is a large chunk of feed missing from the silage silo

    Sorry for you hardship! Hang tough, bud! It’ll all come out in the wash hopefully!
    Straight line wind damage is a bitch on corn at that stage. Green snap, etc.
    Fascinating how in the drone footage there are some fairly abrupt and delineated areas of damage. Looks like some areas were damaged up to one particular row? Then the next row is standing fine... right down the row for a long distance. I’ve never seen that phenomenon before. You? Any ideas on the linear damage pattern like that. I know straight line wind is just that... straight line... your damage pattern was very delineated. Crazy stuff man... so glad no one was injured!

    • @SonneFarms
      @SonneFarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remember when I was talking about different hybrids being stonger than others? Well in some fields we split the planter between two hybrids and so when we see that defined linear stripping, its because one hybrid has a stronger stalk than the other hybrid. Good question

    • @bobcrone6151
      @bobcrone6151 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah. Makes perfect sense. I didn’t catch the bit about your field having two different hybrids....
      Ya know...Whoever makes the hybrid that is still standing in the VERY next row to the green snap area...I’d think they’d be very interested to see your drone footage... might even pay you a bit for it to use in sales materials and customer-facing communications.
      Doesn’t get more obvious than THAT. I know if I worked in marketing and communications for the more sturdy hybrid in your field, I’d want to see and use your drone footage.
      Very interesting indeed...

Know u likely Couldn’t apply enough to act as effectively as a wide spread chemical fertilizer BUT if u find a spot in your fields that have an inordinate amount of infestation maybe a local application early in the season might give time for these beneficial predators to reproduce and keep pace with the caterpillars...
