Most important basic question: In a jewelry store, how does one know if they're getting charged a good or reasonable price for a diamond or diamond ring and not getting taken advantage of by the jeweler pricing it really high? Not talking the difference in quality of the diamond or price of gold, but just the price of the item.
So say you see a ring in the jeweler's case priced at $5000. How does one know that ring's really worth $3000 and the jeweler is making a $2000 profit?

You have to compare to other sources for the same quality - NOTE: not just the same certificate!

Really what you can afford. De Beers says 2 months salary. I say be careful with your budget.
