2023 and I'm still admiring what this tune is about. A milestone in the evolution from the jittery sound of Jungle toward the deeper cleaner sound of Drum n Bass heading into the 2000s. Amazing to have experienced this in London in the 90s night after night.
Joseph Letts Reese is the baseline his second name is Reece spelt correctly. The original pressing was spelt wrong because it was thought Alex “Reese” as in the bassline but it was wrong his full name is. Alexander Charles Reece :)
DJs could never get more than ten seconds past the drop without the place erupting into a chorus of 'HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY HEY's. Old school Junglists know what that means.
I was a kid too. But I used to listen to my uncle blaze it in the car on a hot sunny day cruising 😎 And handing him this record to play next while he was making made his tapes kos this was one of my faves and he was a DJ too. Good times
This dropped around 97 when i was in year 10. It was like a new territory in D&B - such a clean simple instrumental and yet it had the whole UK in a frenzy, myself included. I was humming the b-line endlesslesly for at least a year. The moment the intro was heard at raves everyone went crazy...good times man 😂
Raydensheraj good shout. i think this was a tune dropped a lot as the intro to some proper hedz dnb to follow. dont remember this being dropped late in a set
I first heard this tune at lazerdrome innersense in peckham in 95. Cant remember who played it first every dj that nite played it. It was probably rider or ray keith it blew me away it still does. Find alex reece give him an mbe give him something. This tune represents british dance music. Nothing comes close to this
@@curly-d23 As soon as I hit play I went back a couple of times feeling something was off with the intro hi-hat. Pulp Fiction from the "Alex Reece - Topic" seem to get that hi-hat right and is also 6:11 min, although not labeled remastered sounds overall very clear.
Alex Jeffery London Elektricity, Roni Size Reprazent / Full Cycle, Adam F all did some similarly jazz-influenced stuff around this time (mid 90s, not 2015) Also Peshy - Piano Tune has a similarly deep meditative kinda vibe, it's jungle though not dnb.
Alex Jeffery check out 1995 and onwards jungle drum n bass. 96 is when the use of amen drums and sub bass slowed down. Thats one of the reasons this tune was so massive back in the day is that no one had ever heard that kind of bass on a record before, called Reece bass, (for obvious reasons)
When you think it can’t get any better the trumpet takes it to another level. Genius

Metalheadz will always remind me of my daughter mixing on her decks! Oh such good memories! 🙂
Proud to own this original press vinyl!
MIs spelt Reece? Reese?
Me too.
Bet that'll be worth a few Bob in a few years!

What a classic tune so many memories, RIP JRW and our D&B days gone but not forgotten my old mate x
Cannot say anything about this tune except sicker than sick always has been always will be
Of course this song is good, because it's by Alex Reece. This remaster sounds so much better in terms of clarity and dynamic range. So much cleaner.
Just a shame that this remaster cuts in 1 second too early and botches the opening hi-hat.

Old school Junglists know what that means.
anyone in the current uk bass scene knows what that means

Makes me cry..how good this actually is...
That bassline + blowing out smoke...
hey now what kind of smoke is that ?:P
the ultimate minimalist track. there is nothing to add, nothing to remove.
many have failed at remixing it.
MAKES ME WANT TO GET THE DECKS OUT AGAIN AFTER 20 ODD YEARS AWAY..

best snare in the history of snares
The sickest tune to be printed lol ...never tire kf it

REMASTERED wickedly!!
Besides the fact that this remaster cuts in 1 second too early and botches the opening hi-hat
