      I know man.... so many posters do that... all that filler drives me crazy. This should only take 30 seconds to explain, and its 5 minutes before he gets to the fucking point. Like we really need to hear about why we would change a mesh lol... can just assume its the reason one would look up such a video. Second.... why in the fuck we would have to look this up to begin with is completely beyond me. Substance Painter really needs to have mesh instancing and a refresh for it... its fucking ridiculous that this is not very straight forward and simple and that that would be overlooked to begin with. All pipeline apps should have mesh instancing and a refresh button for fucks sake.
      anyway thanks for posting the time....
      and to the OP... thanks for the info,
      cheers everyone :)

    I added a tiny little object to my model, didn't move any UVs, just added the uvs to a small bit of open space, but importing the new one with the tiny change just completely breaks absolutely every part of my textures. I have no idea why...

    • @KevsArtStuff
      @KevsArtStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey... yes it will most likely do that. It gets confused quite easily if you 'add' anything new to it. So new UVs, new geometry and maybe a new material? When SP compares, it just breaks because there are things there that weren't there before. Whereas, if its a simple changle of existing geometry, then it can handle that.

    Nice video, but my case is a little different, cause I didn't change the mesh, I mirrored an object in my model, adding an identical model to the mesh, updated it in th uv but for some reason it doesn't update on Substance, it gets black, even though the normals aren't reversed. Any Idea of how I can fiX it?

    Hello ! Great video!!
    But I am having problems with something. I don't know if this can be done in the substance painter, but I am trying to add a substance painter project to another substance painter project.
    It is possible to do that, do you know what I must do to be able to do that?
    I tried to do what you did in this video (to import an OBJ file) to my project, and the substance painter allowed me to import the obj, but the previous model I had in that project was automatically disabled. It appears in TextureSetList, but it is locked. I hope you can help me because I am trying to solve this one week ago.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi so I redid the UVs to be more efficient with the space, and when I do this I see a 2nd untextured model standing next to the model I already worked on, and if I export the texture I only get images that correspond with the old UVs I originally painted on. Is there a way to get the texture to adapt to the new UVs on the new model I import in? Or do I need to start over? Thanks

    Thanks so much! I primarily make buildings, like the ones seen in Megaton, in Fallout 3, but I obviously want to have different points of entry into the building. So I have to go back into 3DS Max, cut the doorway out, etc. then bring it back into Substance painter and redo all of the texturing, which is a bit annoying as I only changed maybe 2% of the model lol. I do think that I'll try this on something smaller like a cube though, first.. I mean I'm not sure what its limits will be but there's no harm in trying right?

    • @KevsArtStuff

    Hello ! For some reason, when I project the new mesh, if I make any change to my layers or just simply rebake my maps, all my textures gets moved all over the place, yet the UV's match, there's no translation/scale or even geometry modifications done between the old and new version (I actually just subdivided the model for more resolution). Any idea why and how to fix it ? thanks

    • @KevsArtStuff
      @KevsArtStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you added geometry. Did you preserve the uvs when you did that? SP doesn't like it if you too many extra polys.

    • @robinisola1149
      @robinisola1149 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Naima, can you put it into context and explain exactly what you did... why you did it,etc. and maybe we can help you understanbd why it didn't work.

      @@KevsArtStuff I reuploaded a model to which I detached a part to replace the low poly ... It made all texture work done layers etc gone.

    • @KevsArtStuff
      @KevsArtStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@naimastef So you fundamentally changed the geometry? You didn't just move things around? If you add / delete geometry, it won't work because its then essentially a different mesh. If you make small adjustments and keep the same geometric structure, poly count, number of verts etc. that should be fine. I think SP gets confused if you fundamentally change it. Hope that helps.

      @@KevsArtStuff Just invert the structure. Go first with the quick route and then just spend as much time as you want sorting out the details for those that actually want to learn all about the subject. You'll lose some viewers along the way but at least you're not generating bad blood with your audience.
