    I agree, I was depressed and used to harm myself so I decided to talk a therapist they told me to get a pet who I could own for a while. I tried fostering a dog and it was awful yeah they are cute but didn’t help me so I started seeing a little rodent rolling in dust I didn’t know what it was. I did research found it was called a chinchilla and I decided to try it when I first held my chinnie I loved her! And she helped me I still have her (I got better)

    The most stressful thing about owning chinchillas is summer. Keeping the temperature and humidity down can be tough ...especially in the UK where basically no home has central air conditioning. A portable air conditioner is essential. A dehumidifier is highly recommended as well. Chinchillas are amazing animals though.

      Definitely would agree with you, summer time is so stressful for me. I have a couple of aircon units and I bought a generator last year as well just in case we have power cuts. I know a breeder that had a power cut on the hotest day of the year last year and sadly a lot of his chinchillss passed away 😢 It's my worst nightmare .

      @@AllysAnimalAntics a generator isn't a bad idea at all. What a terrible situation. Let's hope for a cool summer this year...fingers crossed.

    I'm a 51 year old married male, and I am not the type of person to watch your content....until I got a chin. I am absolutely amazed at how smart and trainable they are!! I've had this little guy less than a week and he will readily jump in my hand for a single oat flake. As for the biting issue, I find my chin seems to treat me like it's grooming me. He's even taken ahold of my finger and tried to drag me across the cage without me being bothered. I've owned a rabbit and he just wasn't really a pet. This chin is a really good friend. I've taken to using one oat flake for training and occasionally a pinch of dry oregano which he loves. Aside from that, he's on pellets and hay. The only thing mine has not done is roll in the dust bath. We're working on it.

    When I decided to get mine 5 months ago, I thought it'll be like owning a rabbit with different diet, but I was sooooooo wrong, chinchillas personality are like 2 years old or monkeys, so full of mischief and messy poopers but I love him to death 😁 and his presence brought happiness to my life, chinchillas are so addicting 🤭

      They are such unique animals , they all have their own personalities. I can't imagine my life with out them 🙂

    I would definitely agree with the low maintenance, I was expecting a lot more work with them with maintenance and cleaning having read some care guides. I've had gerbils since I was little and the cleaning out of their tank for digging took so much longer than my daily spot clean and regular clean out of the cage. Though the poop does get everywhere!
    I had one gerbil that would launch himself at our hands as soon as he heard the lid coming off the tank (though that is one out of over 20) and I wouldn't want that to happen with a chinchilla so glad that they're pretty easy going and have other defence mechanisms they go to first if they can. One of mine isn't the gentlest when grooming so I've had some scrapes when she has a go at grooming my hand so hoping I avoid a proper bite!
    I love their personalities. I'm sure all rodent owners will say their pets have personalities, but I've found a lot of hamsters seem to be very similar and not the most sociable, they'll put up with the handling but are happy to be left on their own. I'm definitely more of a fan of sociable rodents that live in groups. I've only had my two chins for six months now and their personalities are so different to each other, I like finding new things that one likes or which prefers which type of toy and things like that.

    Ally's chinchillas are so fluffy and cute! I had chinchillas and they were the most wonderful gifts into my life, I would never regret having had them! While chinchillas are friendly, they can be timid, so the owner must be a very patient person.

    I got sugar gliders because they live long too. I had rodents and was sick of them always dying. I didn’t realize chinchillas lived long also! I probably would’ve gotten chinchillas had I known that. Glad I didn’t and got my gliders but now I want chinchillas also but I really shouldn’t get any, my gliders are enough work lol 😂

    Hi Ally, I recently lost my dog of 15 years it has been just over a year now and I still have that hole which needs to be filled, I am looking at maybe getting a chinchilla, I have watched most of your videos, do you know of any breeders in suffolk as I've tried google search but had no luck. Thank you sharon 😁

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sharon , I don't know of any breeders in Suffolk, there are a couple of breeders in Lincolnshire (me being one of them) but I have nothing for sale at the moment. But there is another breeder in Lincoln. There is also a breeder in Essex, Romford area (might be nearer for you) . Their name is
      Craig and Karly, Essex, London.- Karlyd1305@sky.com
      Years ago there used to be one in the Ipswich area but can't think of their name .
      If you go to the website cheeky chinchillas there is a list of breeders. It doesn't have all the UK breeders on there, but has a few. There are some really good breeders in Manchester and Scotland, If you didn't want to travel, most of these breeders accept pet couriers.

    Hello ally! I am interested in getting a chinchilla but I heard that they don’t like to be alone so if I consider getting one, I should get two. I would like to ask is it necessary to get two?

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do better in pairs (same sex) as they are sociable animals. If you keep one on it's own you need to give them a lot of time and attention to keep them happy. Some chinchillas do prefer to be on their own as some can be quite territorial it depends on the personality of the chinchilla really.

    omg how is ur chinchilla so fluffy?
    i need ur secrets
    i have a black female chinchilla named Nina Pufuleț (romanian name) (look how "ț" is pronunced on translate if ur interested) and i want her to be fluffy like Lex
    does it depend on the specie or how it was born or how you take care of them? i really wanna know

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi 🙂
      Lex is a Royal Persian angora chinchilla, which means he has much longer fur than a normal chinchilla , hence why he looks just so fluffy.
      There are things you can do to help make your chinchillas fur look great though . In the UK and probably in Europe you can buy extra fine chinchilla dust. It's the dust that show breeders use when they show their chinchillas, it's a really fine powder and is sometimes referred to as fur enhancer or show dust.
      The one I use is called
      Sepiolita Extra fine fur enhancing dusting powder.
      Anyway it may help make your chinchillas fur look it's best , it won't make her fur extra fluffy like Lex but it can help enhance your chinchillas fur, if that makes sense.

I think its good for your chinchillas if mine eats them
