As an only child I need my alone time. Since the pandemic my wife works from home and there is always at least one adult child at home. I've learned that with PD my mornings are the most productive, so I'm up by 6, I have a quiet cup of coffee on the deck then start gardening/home repair ,whatever needs to be done. By lunch time on the weekends people are starting to stir. I've had a quiet, productive morning and am ready to face the crowds. But by 4 I'm done. Bed by 11 while everyone stays up till who knows?
I have always enjoyed having alone time, finding it absolutely essential for my sanity and well-being. I retired a few years ago and had really enjoyed having the weekdays to myself while my husband was away at work. Then, just as I received my Parkinson's diagnosis, my husband retired and my daughter and 4 year old granddaughter came to live with us. Boy, can I relate to those pounding feet of little ones running around overhead! I never knew that a single child could attain the sheer volume of a thundering herd of elephants stampeding through our living room! I also struggle with too many voices all talking to me at once and I have a hard time retaining information when it comes at me in a barrage. I actually turned a basement storage room into a bedroom for myself in order to have some peace and quiet (occasionally!). I just think that our brains tire more easily now and believe that time alone is as important for our health as our daily medications.
I, too, have a room where I can go to be alone and sleep during the day if things get stressful. And I do love my son dearly, however dads need a break sometimes too. I know I will miss him when he’s gone, so I try to keep it all in perspective. Thx, Jeannine!
@@JeremyMcdonald Jeremy, in today's economic climate, your sweet son may never be able to afford to move out!! We've had 3 of our 4 kids move back in for short periods of time, though this is the first time we've lived with a grandchild. It's true when they say, "If I'd have known how fun grandkids were, I would have had them first!".
I too enjoy my alone time....I'm an only child so, lots of it is like a normal state for me. But I love people and conversations...I almost always have time to get philosophical or just have a great chat about anything really : )
I miss the days when I could listen to multiple conversations, now it’s like my brain is gonna blow. I used to want to be like Grizzly Adams. I have always loved alone time! Thank you Jeremy for bringing a smile.
I definitely enjoy my alone time, but there’s a part of me that’s missing something because I just became an empty nester. At night, my daughter and I used to play our own version of Jeopardy, we called it “Violent Jeopardy”, where we would just scream out the answers and yell at the contestants for getting it wrong. I miss that. During the day, it’s a different story, I had no idea there were so many people out there going door-to-door, trying to sell me crap!
Hi Jeremy, just found ur channel! Fellow parkinson's brother, I really appreciate ur talks, thank u! Definitely enjoy my alone time! While I love my family dearly, I must have my recharge moments (no sounds, no worries other than myself....a time to reboot); and my connection time's with my family are just as important. A daily balancing of trying not to use up all ur memory card before it's full 😂!
I am another person who enjoys alone time. Thanks for relating it to Parkinsons. And I really want to say how much I appreciate everything you’ve shared here about your journey. I was recently diagnosed and it sometimes feels overwhelming. Don’t want to upset my family and friends too much but I also want to let them know where I am in learning about the present and what the future may hold. You are helping me so much by being honest and keeping a great attitude.
You made my day, Nancy! These videos really help me to put into words the struggles those of us with PD have on a daily basis. And anytime someone can relate I feel like I’ve made a difference. Thanks for the kind words!😎
I admire you brother ... your son loves you so much he wants you to be in his day , right from the start ( even though he doesn't understand your head in the morning ) . Alone has been my life and usually am ok with it . Worked the maytag repair man type job . So I kinda seek connections at times . You describing multiple conversations or a bunch of crazy noises while trying to talk . I can relate ( feels like my head is gonna explode ) . And I can hear everything ( best of senses is the hearing ) Have a wonderful day
Hi Jeremy. Your newest video was spot-on. I find that I need alone time every day just for myself so I can gather my thoughts and gather my inner strength to make it through the day. Thanks for bringing up a topic that many people without Parkinson's don't seem to understand. Hope you are doing well. David
I think my partner will put on my gravestone “had more alone time than ANYONE and didn’t appreciate it “. This has always been an contentious topic in our house, way before PD. And it’s only been the last few years that I’ve started to enjoy, maybe even crave , my alone time.
U r right, I can't stand extra noise n the back ground!! Makes me want to go outside n peace! I get it, totally. I like to b w my poodle watching a movie❤
Thx for sharing! For me I always want to be doing something, active, keep the body moving. Alone time, once in a while sure..nice to see you buddy, did you shine it this morning!!? I did!! Whale tail all day 😂😂❤🇨🇦💪🏽
By Jeremy thanks for the question I do like to be alone but not too much because then I get lonely LOL thanks for your videos every week I look forward to😊 them🎉
I hear you man. External stimuli can be overwhelming. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
No problem!

I agree with you, Rick. My morning is the most productive time of the day. Thx for the feedback!
I do enjoy my alone time, but sometimes I wish I wasn't alone. It's a mixed bag.
I can feel the same way sometimes, too. Thx, Michele!

Having trouble strumming my ukulele since parkinsons. Any ideas? Spent years becoming semiproficient...
I wish I had a solution for you. I play a like ukulele, too. But my dyskinesia is so bad it’s almost impossible to play.
