In German, "vertreten" means represent as in "stand for", "be a stand in for" and "darstellen" means represent as in "depict, expose, show, demonstrate". Also "verstreten " is pronounces "fair-TRAY-ten" and "darstellen" is pronounced "DAR-shtellen" Maybe that helps.
