    Republicans who want to say this show never portrayed Republicans as anything but terrible leeches are obviously ignoring this scene. Or the other scene with Rep. Bruno. And any scene with Cliff. Or any scene with Ainsley. And Rep. Royce. It's just painfully obvious that anyone who thinks only Democrats were portrayed as good human beings have never actually watched the show.

      I’m curious as an independent would you compare President Trump with President Biden?
      Not just they’re rhetoric, but their performance in the job?
      In a nutshell I think President Trump did much better than anyone expected and achieved a lot of good things.
      Yet people hate him and prefer President Biden who is a nicer more respectable person and yet he’s doing a terrible job or at least he’s not managing a terrible situation.

      @@susanr5546 well I think most politicians are liars, conmen and crooks.
      But as a non America he seemed good.
      He confronted North Korea got them to stop firing missiles. Brokered a historic meeting between north and South Korea, first step on the road to unification and peace. He got Otto warmbeer released.
      He brokered peace deals with Israel and Morocco, Israel and Bahrain, Israel and the UAE. He recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
      He crushed isis including killing Abu bakr al baghdadi. They have virtually no territory accept in Libya.
      He killed Sullimani the Iranian general responsible for thousands of deaths : iraqi, Iranian, American, British.
      He cancelled the Iran deal which was literally putting pallets of cash in the hands of hamas and hezbollah- who killed countless Jews and Muslims.
      He also presided over Nasa finally sending humans back to space from Florida.
      Also the economy was doing better until covid hit and slowed things down followed by inflation which isn’t his fault or President Biden. The whole western world is feeling the pressure.
      Biden on the other hand pulled out of Afghanistan leaving all weapons behind for the taliban, as a result the take an now has more black hawk helicopters than the British army.
      Hes siding with Iraq against Saudi Arabia while we have a oil shortage.
      He committed to no new drilling or oil
      Extraction in the USA which makes the oil scarcity even worse.
      And he’s clearly ravaged by age in a serious manner, he’s like my grandpa with dementia.
      I know you hate trump and I know why he’s a very unpleasant man, but can’t you hold that opinion and at the same time realise that Biden is an embarrassment [end of quote)
      (Repeat the line)
      Like Peter B Parker said in spider-verse: “dont watch the mouth watch the hands”
      Focus on their actions and not their personality and things are clearer after all it’s their actions that are important not their personality.

      I know this is an old comment but I just rewatched this and realised that they used the lighting that way to make the republicans look more "evil", the Nazis used to do the same thing when they made propaganda stuff about the Jews. When I first saw this series I was pretty naive about Politics and came out after it thinking Democrats were so cool and Republicans are assholes. Funny thing is, as I got older and more "wise" to the world my views have pretty much done a 360 :) I still love the show however, one of the best things ever viewed for acting, writing etc.

      I don't disagree with that because the Republican Party officials are actively trying to undermine democracy and the democratic institutions. However, I would not go as far as saying it's just the one Democrat that is a cretin.
      What I meant in my original comment is that it's more of a nod to politicians in general and to other people in the political world. They are trying to win, not serve the people. I think it was a reminder to all those people.

    • @antourte1
      @antourte1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Firan25 The setup for this scene takes up the whole episode, it's a really good one, you should watch it in full :) To summarize, Leo was known to be a recovering alcoholic that hadn't drank since rehab over 8 years ago. However the glasses-ed Republican had personally witnessed evidence Leo's one and only relapse which happened to coincide with an MS attack experienced by then-candidate Bartlet during a campaign stop (and nobody knew he had the disease yet). Since the Congressional investigation WAS into the coverup of Bartlet's illness, it would've been a pretext to ask Leo a lot of "where were you, what did you see" types of questions which probably would've forced him to admit to the drinking binge to explain his lack of involvement in the events. In season one the first public reveal of Leo's past caused some political problems for the White House, and admitting to a relapse would've probably brought on a similar round of political damage control.
      Cliff Calley, the GOP attorney, is a good guy who believes in looking for the truth on the basis of the investigation into MS without dragging Leo's personal history into it. He knows the testimony they would've gotten doesn't really say anything about the coverup of the illness, and is only really about alcoholism. He convinces the Speaker of the House to postpone the hearings to give Leo some time to prepare or avoid having to publicly testify about his own insobriety, to avoid the dirty politics.

    • @antourte1
      @antourte1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Firan25 By the way, small detail I got wrong, it wasn't the Speaker of the House he convinces to shut down the hearings, it's the Chairman of the Committee in charge of the investigation. In fact, the "bad guy" tells the Chairman to think about what the Speaker would want, presumably because he'd go for the political attack.

    • @RobynHarris
      @RobynHarris 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Suicide Booth It’s not a baby. It’s an ovum, that may become a fertilized ovum, that may become a embryo, that may become a fetus, that may become a baby.
      To treat it like a human being during the earlier stages may fit your political agenda of punishing women, but it is as nonsensical as saying a coffee table is a horse because they both have four legs.

    • @jimmy2k4o
      @jimmy2k4o 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on the stage if developed.
      And ovum is an unfertilised egg- not life
      When a sperm enters the ovum and fertilisation occurs, a new cell that’s that’s neither the mother or the father is created and is now an embryo. It has its unique DNA and respires, (taking in oxygen and nutrition while expelling waste and carbon dioxide.)
      Over time the embryo will develop into a very small human being with its own skeleton, blood, organs, brain, genetic structure (and if you choose to believe, a soul)
      I agree that bodily autonomy is a right. But I think it’s factually wrong to call aborting a baby “a woman’s body” since the baby isn’t her body, it doesn’t even have her DNA.
      If you wanna argue for abortion, please do, but please don’t use the “woman’s body” argument since it’s not true.
      Also if a person wanted a doctor and said “amputate my arm because of alien limb syndrome, the doctor would say no, and get them psychiatric help.
      Doctors swore to do no harm and abortions are harmful.

    • @brianleap5830

      @@jimmy2k4o What's your point? How is abortion harmful? Who is it harming? It's not human life yet. It's not intelligent. It can't write a novel. It can't do a calculus proof. It doesn't have memory. It's not sentient. My dog is closer to human life than a fetus. She communicates; she feels; she has a mind and memory unlike a fetus. Heck, she's more intelligent than most babies I've met.
      Or Are you trying to protect all life? Do you oppose abortions for dogs? (Yes they're a thing. I looked into it, just in case, when my puppy went into heat earlier than expected.) Do you oppose killing cows because they're life? Do you not kill mosquitoes? Do you not use antibiotics because they kill bacterial life? Do you not spray your lawn for weeds because weeds are life?

      The point of the committee in the show is to determine if Bartlett did anything wrong: asking Leo about his substance history truly is irrelevant, and thus the member of the committee had to be reigned in. The point of the impeachment inquiry was to find if trump did anything that warrants impeachment. Thus, all of his dealings with foreign powers and his dealings with our own political process are fair game, since they are all potentially impeachable acts. Schiff's just doing his job: the committee man wasn't, so I don't think you can compare the two
