2:19-3:08 "I was once completely confused and unhappy. I locked myself in the guest room of my parents' home and in great consternation I sobbed and cried, because I did not know anymore what to do with my life. There, on the spot, I discovered suddenly that in all my unhappiness, I was moving. And I was moving in such a way, that I had never moved before. And also, suddenly this moving became an expression, a speaking out."

So ahead of her and our time. She really got deep into the human condition through her dance. Thank you so much for sharing this

Mary Wigman is far more important a modern dance pioneer than the more well known styles in my opinion. I prefer expressionist and sharp contrasting shapes for the body. I wish this was more well known than ballet or contemporary, enough so that I could go to classes.

Mary Wigman open space for expressive dance in a era where ballet was primordially the main reference in Europe. Her contribution to dance is undoubtedly a mark in history. Unfortunately, her nationalism placed her as a supporter of Nazism. She was anti-Semitism and despised ethnic inclusion.

People who did not know Mary have invented this profile of her. Please read "Margret Dietz - A Dancer's Legacy". (Freeman, Soderstrom, Winkler, 2010). This memoir of our teacher Margret Dietz, Mary's dear friend, attests to the false impressions you claim in the field of Dance history.

Yes, I agree with lindalee, this is not true that Wigman was aligned with the Nazi ideology -- in fact, many of her company members were Jewish.
