Is there any rule to identify whether to use C or K while writing,as both sounds same for few words

When the /k/ sound is followed by the vowels a, o, and u it is spelled with the letter C.
Examples; Can, Cot, Cup, Cow, etc.
When the /k/ sound is followed by i, e, or y it is spelled with the letter K.
Examples: Kite, Sky, Key, Kitten, etc.
....................................
But remember there are always some acceptions behind rules, the rules or guidelines only help beginners to learn but if you want to master your English, you need to skip learning rules and understand the "international phonetics alphabet''.
