Thank you so much. I searched everywhere to find a draft stopper with Christmas pattern and couldn't find what I was looking for. Your video is a perfect solution.
Thanks for this, was looking how to do this project and yours was the best video that I found...I think I will use corn feed, hope it works. Great video!
You could use most anything including cat litter. How about making a tube/sausage from a plastic sack filled with enough weight product then use all your tiny scraps of material / old jumpers chopped up etc to stuff the rest. Reuse, recycle. You then simply ensure the weight is at the bottom.?
That’s the winning idea for me. Rice is expensive here, I was thinking sand, but that’s also expensive, I can’t be bothered ordering special supplies online 😅 but I can get super cheap bags of cat litter in the local shop! Thank you so much!
For anyone worried about the rice absorbing moisture, you can use glass beads (the decorative rounded ones people often put in vases) in with the polyfill to get the weight too!
Yes, great idea. Mine are still doing great with the rice, but I would totally use some type of beads or peebles next time, just in case of moisture. Great tip! Thanks
Planning on using rice...😊 Preferred mine from Etsy as I do not sew. But, here because I wanted to see what people are putting inside theirs. Rice it is for me. When ordering online they put a velcro closure. Thank You! 😁🙏
Thanks for stopping by and watching my video. Someone else suggested using small aquarium rocks, I thought that was a great idea. Not sure the cost. It could be expensive to use the rocks. 🙂
I'm looking to get one to replace my old one. Question- could you attach a velcro strip to it and the door ? I wonder if yours would be too heavy to hold up.
That would be a fantastic idea. I do think using the rice has made mine pretty heavy, but it might work. You'll have to let me know what you end up doing. Thanks for watching. 🙂
I wonder if one could sew a divider length wise, then stuff the rice first. Next stuff the polyfill into the second channel of your tube. Double wrap the narrow ends, fold over twice, then stitch or glue- gun across.
I like to use old panty hose. I do half a Cup of rice then knot then more rice then knot etc. until the length is the same as the blocker. I then just sew a few holding stitches at each end to secure then stuff with old Batting scraps
I was thinking of just using my fabric scraps to fill this. Do I need rice? Is that to weight it down? Mine is going on my front door and I've never used one before.. Does anyone know if they go mouldy with time? (with the draft and cold etc) was thinking of adding a zip so I can swap out the stuffing with time if it was to get mouldy. Sorry for rant and ty in advance ❤❤
Don't apologize, those are great questions. But yes, it needs the weight, and I have not had any problems with mold or anything. But you don't have to use rice, you can use other things like small peebles etc. I think the zipper idea is awesome. That way you could remove the contents inside and change them out and even wash it.🤔 Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! They're pretty easy to make. I've made four so far. All of them are holding up great after 2 years. You can make these for the door or a drafty window. Thanks for watching. 🙂
I was curious.. Why cut two pieces, vs. folding the fabric in half? I'm sure there's a good reason but as a non-sewer I wasn't sure of the answer. Thanks in advance!
ps I'm asking cuz it would mean one less line of sewing for me hahaha (ps ignore the fisherman.. this is my husbands account and I can't seem to get off of it)
I think I did only cut one piece and I folded it in half. Or at least I think I did. 🤪 But you could do it both way, either way is fine. Thanks for watching.
The shelf life of rice and beans is many years if stored properly. You could say that in this application, they are not stored properly. But I do think the rice is protected pretty good in the fabric and it should last for many years. If bugs get inside, I guess that could cause a problem. I have not seen any bug issues so far. If you are concerned you could probably place your rice into plastic bags (repurpose grocery bags) for some added protection. It will all be hidden inside so you wouldn't be able to see it.🤔 Thanks so much for your comment and thanks for watching. 🙂
I really don't think it's a waste if you're using the rice to make something that you can use and should last a long time. 🤔 But that's your choice. 🙂 I didn't think to use paper, so thanks for sharing. 😁
Well I guess some of the poly-fil might prevent the rice from going to one end if I were to hold it up on one side. I keep it laying flat on the floor against the door and the rice is heavy and stays in place. I have not tried to hold it up to get it to fall to one end. I guess that is what prevents the rice from gathering to one side.🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for watching!🙂

Will rice or beans deteriorate over time due to bugs?

You can use the gravel you can get for fish tanks. Gives it weight but doesnt attract any bugs or pests

What’s the fabric that best work for the drifter
The fabric I used was cotton. So it doesn't have to be something special or expensive. Thanks for watching.
I have the same sewing machine
Awesome. I love mine.🙂
Maybe use old pillow or duvet filling rather than buy new.
I'm going to use pine pellet horse bedding to fill mine. It should not bring mice or bugs into my home.
