@@lizardjoe4224 Hey, thanks for your feedback :) What do you mean by wrong time and Global Defence Force being weird? You mean the time stamps in the description or the release dates within the video? Oh and I also really like Insect Armageddon! :D
Whoops I guess I missed the global defence game on google bunches of websites say that edf mobile the first one released in 2010 which the more I think of it sounds really wrong so it's a great vid but I thought the first edf released in 2001
To be honest I only really like armageddon because the sounds are amazing and the designs like the daddy long legs are CRAZY. And while your playing your hear crazy sounds that give it a vibe that no edf has accomplished such as the hector sounds and the noises the drophips and daddy longlegs make when they open. And it was the first edf I played
One of the best game series that I've ever played until now. I remember playing Monster Attack on PS2 with my friend trying defeat TWO giant Godzilla-like monsters and i can still feel the terror of it until now haha
Oh, I know what you mean. For me it's the second game (Global Defense Force in the west) that I used to play a lot with my friend back then. It's also one of the first games I ever made TH-cam videos for haha. Great series of games and I can't wait for EDF6 later this year!
It took quite some research and help from friends overseas. I almost felt a bit like an EDF archaeologist. Nice to see it being appreciated! I could not get my hands on a japanese LYNX 3D phone to capture footage of the android version of EDF3 Portable. But I'm planning on getting one this year and maybe make a new video once EDF6 is out :) _EDF! EDF!_
I'm currently enjoying World Brothers a lot. It's also coming to the west next month. It's a lot of fun and has _all_ the characters from _all_ the previous games!
The lads and I were ignorant to this franchise until its Steam release of 4.1. Between that and countless hours of EDF 5, we couldn't be more excited for the NA release of EDF 6.
Amazing! I can tell you that you love EDF. It was arranged in chronological order, and I felt it was wonderful that all the various derivative works were covered. .. From Japanese
I was introduced to this series after being gifted EDF2 (Global Defense Force) on Christmas. It quickly became one of my favorite PS2 games, me and my friend tried to beat the entire game in co-op but the last mission was near impossible even on easy. Nowadays I have EDF 2017 (portable) and EDF 5. It was probably the best of the Simple Series other than Onechanbara, the rest I have researched look... rough to say the least, no wonder they didn't survive past the Simple Series.
Hey, that's pretty much how I got in contact with the series back then! Although for me it was the Japanese version. But it also quickly became one of my favorite PS2 games and like you I tried to beat it with my buddy back then. There's still some old videos on my channel of us playing haha. Onechanbara is also a fun little series but the Simple 2000 line has some others too, that I liked. For example "Zombie vs Ambulance" (Zombie Virus in the West) and "Splatter Master" ("Splatter Action"). There's some others too I don't remember the name of but I always liked the series because of its weird little games 🤓
Same here, but I discovered it by playing it in rentable PS2 (insert coin to use PS2 for few minute), it was the only game that got me invested so far compared to other ps2 games Sandlot did a great job making a simple but fun game
Had known about the series for a long time but never gave it a shot until 4.1 came out. Fell in love almost instantly, now I have a ridiculous amount of hours in 5 and still going strong. Its that game that I love to just hop on and shred for a little bit whenever im bored or just trying to chill. Such a great series, anxiously awaiting the US release of 6.
My first one was 2 (aka Global Defense Force) so that's kinda become my favorite. Although I slightly prefer the Vita version over the PS2 original because of online multiplayer and the new Air Raider class. 5 is also really good and I can't wait for 6! Currently keeping me busy with World Brothers till then. And thanks for watching! :)
@@cenorexia I remember my father buying EDF2017 for the Xbox 360 WAYYY back in the day and we both love it! I've been playing the ones that followed after as well. My god, split screen was so much fun for me and my father long ago! EDIT: I also forgot to mention that we bought 2025 and Insect Armageddon soon after (we were xbox players back then, we only then got a PS4 in 2019, and I got my PC in September last year). I was probably less than 10 years old when I was introduced to the series. I agree that 5 was an improvement, there was this one comment I found (I don't remember where on the internet tho.) stated that 5 had that "classic Global Defense Force/Monster Attack Vibe." I think that is what the commenter said if I'm remembering correctly.
@@stormplaysanything9944 That's such a nice memory, thanks for sharing! 🙏 I have similar feelings towards EDF2 on PS2, been playing it with my best friend, sitting in front of the TV, snacks and soda ready, recording gameplay for TH-cam haha. That's more than 10 years ago now, kinda weird how time works. We're still friends though and just recently played split screen again in the newest one, EDF: World Brothers ☺️ _Can't wait for EDF6!!_
of course, of all the edf series, it was (and the new one) has the most QoL changes in gameplay, those QoL improvements were something I could've dreamt of as a modder who would mod old edf games, kinda wished old titles could be modded with the same features in EDF5, the features in edf 5 were just too convenient, like being able to manually reload, upgrade weapons, shared loots, finishing harder difficulty clears lower difficulty, etc-etc.
You're welcome! Since I made this video, there were a few additional releases: EDF2, 3 & 4.1 on Nintendo Switch (Japan only) EDF6 (released 2022 in Japan, earlier this year in the rest of Asia and will come to Europe/North America on July 25) EDF World Brothers 2 (releases later this month in Japan and September 26 for Europe/North America)
i'd love to argue with you, but objectively you may be right. Although i love the additions in EDF5, 4 had some of the best memories of any of them (Disclaimer: i did start with EDF3/EDF2017 so my opinion is skewed to the new). I can't forget my horror the first (and every other) time I faced the Earth Eater. and the difficulty pacing of the game is some of the best in the series although i wish they introduced Retarius later, totally not speaking as an arachnophobe btw.
Was there any major differences to 4.1 over the other versions? I think I played a bit of the 360 version of 4 or was it 2025? I want to give the series another try but not sure where to jump back in, all the different titles and name differences just get confusing.
@@Gigantemanatee 4 and 2025 are the same game, just different names. 4.1 is a remaster that game. The main difference, other than graphics, is that you get allied vehicles (oh, and a lot of the missions have been remade completely.)
I think my favorite has to be the first one I played which is Earth Defense Force 2017 for the Xbox 360. It's also one my top favorite games of all time because of how it blew my mind when I first played it. Giant enemies, Destructible environments, lots of weapons etc. Everything I wanted from a game when I was young lmao. Currently playing through EDF 5 with my bro and will definitely be getting the 6th one when it comes out. Also, thanks for the list. I was thinking about going back and trying the older games to see how they hold up. However, I didn't know if I wanted to because looking for old games of a franchise can sometimes be a pain. I'm sure you had some trouble looking for these games yourself. Now I'm gonna have a blast checking all... well, most of them out. The exclusives are probably a lost cause lmao.
Whoah, this video I watched long ago would be from the same channel who would also make edf 6 translation, props to your dedication and love to EDF series mate
Thanks! Yes, it's me! Glad you like the videos 😁 EDF6 is just so good, it's a shame we have to wait so long for an _official_ translation. That's why I thought I'd do my own so others can understand the story better.
@@cenorexia Hey, you did a great job of doing it, now you deserved thousands of viewers for that, even a sub too, also thank you for keeping doing that since I also felt the same way as you too, this needs to be released in PC Eng now that I got a good understanding of the plot Seems EDF 6 decided to take the plot seriously compared to the rest of EDF series, despite the cheesiness it has
@@cenorexia Also, if you have a free time, can you do an HD quality gameplay of EDF 2 beating the final stage? Only few youtube videos cover players fighting Floating City Eden
EDF3/2017 Portable on Vita is a very good port of the game and feels even more complete than the Xbox version thanks to the inclusion of PaleWing. It's also coming to Nintendo Switch (announcement came _after_ this video was finished, that's why it's missing from the list but it'll be there in the next version 😉).
@@cenorexia Ah, thank you for the info. Proper EDF for Switch coming. (Although I´m looking forward for playing World Brothers someday). I loved when 3/2017 told me I unlocked PaleWing but that the game wasn´t designed for her :)
Didn't even know they had a light novel of EDF, man, maybe one day they'll do an anime, it would honestly be the best thing if they at least some sort of animation with EDF, hell even a CGI movie would be amazing.
An 80's style, hand drawn, hyper violent anime would be amazing. Something like M.D. Geist but with the EDF haha. A CGI movie would also be dope. The animated Starship Troopers movie "Traitor of Mars" ("Red Planet" in Japan) comes pretty close. They even had a collaboration with EDF5 back then and everyone was expecting a Starship Troopers themed DLC for EDF5 _or_ an animated EDF film in the style of "Traitor of Mars" but sadly neither happened, it was just a "shared commercial" in the end.
@@cenorexia That sounds incredible, now that I think about it, if it was animated, would they go crazy with all the goofy dialog, or would they actually make it into a serious thing, like where gets incredibly dark towards the end. I'm torn between to two, if it was serious, we would get some incredibly sad and depressing moments but great characters, if it was cheesy on purpose like the games then we would get funny characters saying the corny lines like the game. I don't know how the light novel handles that sort of thing, but I will say, the art looks great.
@@Mogeko_Ranger if they mix it it would be like the goofy guy dies and it just kinda makes a void where there should be someone making it darker? But yeah i agree both sound awesome
I used to play them with my friend in the afternoon. They are very nostalgic to me. EDF2 is also one of the first games I ever made TH-cam videos for 😄 th-cam.com/video/M4lJLqEnOac/w-d-xo.html
I've seen someone stream Earth Defense Force 6 and was like: Yeah, this looks like a fun game. So I first bought Insect Armaggeddon and played the campaign one time. I was like: Yeah, this was ok. Then I bought EDF 4.1 and 6. I finished the campaign yesterday from 6 and I was like: I fking love this franchise. Completion on Steam will take a while but I'm all in.
Hey, it's great you found your way to the EDF!! This is a great little game series and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. You didn't play EDF5 before you jumped into EDF6, right? Could you still follow the plot? 😅

Edf 2017, IA, and 2025 are the 3 I was able to purchase, and I will never not stop playing them. Wish it wasn't just on playstation because I'd definitely buy iron rain and whatever else comes on on PS.
It's _very_ basic as far as turn-based strategy games go. But it does have the EDF charme and if you liked the first two games, you might like this one too. I still applaud them for making it at all and I'd love for them to try another time to make an EDF game in another genre.
Thanks for watching and pointing this out! :) I know about the game. It's called "Uchuu Daisensou" (宇宙大戦争) In Japan, which is the title of an old japanese science fiction movie (known as "Battle in Outer Space" outside Japan), similar to how the EDF series's original title "Chikyuu Boueigun" (地球防衛軍) was also taken from an old 1950's science fiction movie known as "The Mysterians" outside Japan. Both games don't have anything to do with the corresponding movies, they just took the names but both are part of the same line of budget titles in Japan by the same publisher. But that seems to be where the connection ends. I know that the EDF is mentioned in the english version but I read into it, also on japanese message boards, and the consensus was that it's _not_ a real spin-off. The mention of the EDF is something that's only in the english translation, they don't appear in the original, soooo I left it out. It's still a fun little game though!
Ace Combat/Sidewinder meets EDF? [Well I have seen some gameplays and went from Space War Attack>Over G>Energy Airforce Aimstrike to Strike Fighters 2 and a mention of an old Tornado Fighter Jet Sim So....yeah, thanks is always nice to find new things
Hey there! Yes, I wanted to make it as accurate as possible and spent quite some time researching (and recording). Nice to see it being appreciated :) PS: I guess by the end of the year I have to make an updated version as EDF2+3 are coming to the Switch and EDF6 is scheduled for release, too xD
@@cenorexia Yes you have to make one more, I don't need a Vita anymore for portable 2 and 3 EDF 4.1 Tap Wars services concluded 2019 or last year if I recall correctly, a sad day kinda want a hacked version w/o server tie in Your attention to detail is spot on discovery new games here and this goes to the eternal collection
@@luichinplaystation610 When I was working on this video, I was trying to get TapWars running again. If you have an Android phone (or an Android emulator for PC) you _can_ find the APK to download but it won't go past the title screen. I actually tried messing around with the file but I lack the necessary expertise in these kinda things so I didn't get it to work, so in the end I had to use some promotional footage from D3 Publisher directly instead of recording my own. Still irks me a little bit haha xD
They ended the service servers for events and hi scores went down so the game can't pass the title screen it has to be a workaround that problem [a custom server?] I know the reputation of the Tap Wars games but this EDF version kept me glued to the phone like it was snake for the Nokia or Brawls Stars Supercell games Making gazillions 99.99 gg of money, upgrading and watching adds for drops
Do you know the Wii game "Zangeki no reginleiv"? The publisher is Nintendo, but it is a game developed by Sandlot, and the content is almost similar to Earth Defense Force. It was very well received in Japan, but unfortunately the English version was never released. It is a game that I would like everyone overseas to experience the fun. *This work was released between Earth Defense Force 3 and 4, and various elements of this work have been inherited by the Earth Defense Force series. For example, the Earth Defense Force online system and chat UI were established in this work.
Oh yes, I know that game! I actually imported it from Japan way back when it released because I like the EDF games very much and like you said, _Zangeki_ plays very similar, just with a norse mythology setting. The ability to dismember enemies seems to also come from _Zangeki._ There is no official english release but a fan translation is available which is pretty good! It's called "Blades of Reginleiv".
Thanks for did this video. This is awesome to see all this franchise games in different platform. My favorite one it's the EDF3 Portable aka EDF 2017 i've got the game with his box in version asia & digital = only for play online with other players. (but dang i don't meeted any players on the Vita...) But i love all the EDF games but the only EDF that i really hate it's the "Insect Armaggedon" IMO it's the worst EDF that i played in all of my life... - In 5:54 I never played the shmup one with the "Wing Divers" of the EDF4 it looks great. But i can't wait to play the EDF 6! (Sorry for my English XD!)
Hey there! Thank you so much for your nice comment :) I also played EDF3P on the Vita again a little while ago and it is a very good port. So cool they included WingDiver in that version. At the moment I am enjoying the new World Brothers a lot. But I'm also looking forward to EDF6. And your English is fine, don't worry about it. Much better than my French haha! Take care and stay healthy! :)
I wouldn't say Insect Armageddon is the worst (it did give us Fencer after all) and it was still, at its core a serviceable EDF game, Iron Rain I think takes the throne of worst spinoff EDF game though. Some of the design choices in that one are just completely against what EDF is about.
It is pretty basic but still fun. It would be nice to see another Tactics spin-off with some more modern mechanics. Or maybe even a real-time strategy game.
EDF 6 must be completely modernized and futurized. Ranger guns must be more tactical, like multipurpose rifle systems, a lot different types of firearms and launchers/snipers (with thermal scopes or target-finding systems). Air Raider must look like he's an orbital operator, controlling the battlefield from above with full superior vehicles and transport. Wing Diver must look like jet fighter or humanized gunship, that can drop bombs and rockets as well, or use alien weapons for aerial advantage. Fencer will become a living mecha, that can boost easily and pierce any kind of insect, dealing critical damage. Or become an artillery platform (with Air Raider support). Insects must look more intimidating and terrifying, eating civillians and soldiers, instead of dragging and holding them and using like toys (but that was goddamn funny as hell!). There's also must be some sort of QTE (when insect tries to crush you, like for fencers), because rangers aren't powerful physically (I know it sounds like joke, because you could break through barricades and barriers being a ranger, but still). Technological progress must jump really far. Or you can call it Earth Attack Force, in order to exterminate all insects and aliens in the Sol System. We have to believe that's going to happen. At least 4,5,IR proved that quite good. And more did previous parts. Man this game is awesome. If we get much more customization (like gun attachment, armor parts e t.c.), more cool sounds for guns, and swiching to shoulder view - that'd be amazing game. At least I do believe in that, don't know about others.
@@cenorexia yea just like muv-luv alternative but with infantry perspective/tank/exosuit/wing diver and a mech only act as support when they have to fight against kaiju, that would be very satisfy to watch for me... I really love to see a plot like an earth got a full scale invasion and we just fend off a ravager with something like EDF do, an combine arm with regular infantry/tank/special unit(wingdiv-fencer)/coordinator(air raid) and they have a classic style mech that slow but durable and pack with a heavy punch, i just bore from anime plot that everyone have to pilot a hight speed-combat god mech shit you know what i'm sayin 😂
The third game seems to be the entry to the series for a lot of players. Probably because it's the first one that released in North America. Did you also play the updated PlayStation Vita version later on?
@@cenorexia no never had a Vita. Only a 360 for that generation of EDF games. It was from an Early Gaminformer that talked about the series/small preview that got me hooked
The PlayStation Vita version is really good. It's the complete game, plus several new missions and weapons and an additional soldier class to play as, the PaleWing (a precursor to what would become the Wing Diver). That version is also available on Nintendo Switch, but only in Japan.
I replayed the Vita version for this video (to get footage of the PaleWing character) and it's really great! Wish they would've added the PaleWing to the home console version as well as DLC or update.
One question about extra missions. Do 4.1, 5, iron rain have extra missions? I thought 4.1 is a complete pack of a previus game, but once i think i saw a mission pack to purchase. EDF 5 and iron rain have Deluxe and ultimate edition respectively, the extra stuff includes missions??? I didnt see season passes for those games, only cosmetic DLC, characters, weapons or vehicles. Thanks in advance
4.1 is a slightly updated version of 4 with a few new missions and other improvements. _Most_ of the additional DLC content for the original EDF4 is already included in 4.1 _but_ they also still made new DLC content for 4.1! Same with EDF5 and Iron Rain: They both have additional DLC content which _I THINK_ is also in the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions, but I am not 100% certain on that because I only bought the base games when they were released. I hope this still answers some of your questions. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear or you have further questions regarding the series :)
With the exception of _EDF4.1: TapWars_ none of the mobile games ever left Japan. And TapWars has also been pulled from iOS & Android stores as well quite a while ago after the servers were shut down.
@@gondeeznofake If you have an Android phone you can still find and install the .apk file for TapWars. However, you can only see the title screen because the servers were shut down, so the game doesn't load properly. The other mobile games shown here were all "pre-smart phone era". I really searched a lot, also on Japanese websites and message boards and even got in contact with some people that _had_ those games back then (one was kind enough to send me some screenshots and a short videoclip for "EDF Legend") but it seems that no-one has extracted the game files to this day. They might actually be lost :(
And i always wonder why the Ranger looks like an army but the Wing Diver just a cheerleaders with jet pack and overpowered laser beam that always hit allies 😂
In the "Primer Arc" continuity (EDF5+6) the WingDiver starts out as a stunt performer for an aerial show. So not quite cheerleader but not military either 😁
@@cenorexia if you look at global defense force or EDF2 its just like Cheerleaders with jetpack 😂 i mean i like the design on EDF 4.1 they more look like going to fight alien
When I made this video it was still supposed to come out last year but it got delayed. It's now finally coming August 25 in Japan. There's no western release date yet but I'll surely get the Japanese version and will do some live streams like I did when 5 came out.
To be fair, I recorded the PS2 clips in near 4K resolution using an emulator which makes everything look much "cleaner" and more crisp than original hardware. Here's how it looks on an actual PS2, recorded back in the day: th-cam.com/video/55RSYOR8MvM/w-d-xo.html
Unfortunately it's only available in Japanese. Would be great if they brought it to the west so non-japanese-speaking EDF fans could read it, too. But I suppose the series is just not popular enough outside Japan to do a proper translation and find a publisher.
That would be nice! It would have it all: Mecha, Kaiju, War, Tanks, Cyborgs, Explosions, Soldiers suffering from PTSD ― all the ingredients for a good anime xD
That's not part of this series, though. It's a different developer, different publisher and the original japanese title is also just "E.D.F." (as opposed to "Chikyuu Boueigun" / 地球防衛軍, the japanese title of D3's "Earth Defense Force" series about fighting giant insects). It's just a coincidence they both have similar titles in the west. Another such example would be the late 90's first person shooter "Chasm" and the more recent game "Chasm". Or "Urban Chaos" on the PS1 and "Urban Chaos" on the PS2. Also unrelated to each other despite similar/same names.
The first two games as well as the Tactics game I was using PCSX2, yes. I already had some footage recorded from an actual PS2 but the resolution, even when played at 720p using an HD Boot Disc, was just much lower than the rest of my recordings. So I played and recorded those early games using an emulator on my PC.
@@cenorexia could I ask what settings you used in pcsx2? The games look extremely blurred if I upscale them. And yeah I’ve played both from a disk and a hdd boot on a ps2 and the games are basically unplayable with how slow they are. It’s really confusing how those games released like that
I saw an Earth Defense Force title for SNES, is that a different "franchise"? I know it plays much different than these (looks similar to a Gradius\Life Force game) but am just curious. I Need an EDF game in my life. Is there a digital way to get one for XBox One or Switch?
Yes, that SNES game is unrelated to the series. It just happened to have a similar name. In terms of digital games for Xbox, I think EDF3 (Earth Defense Force 2017), EDF4 (Earth Defense Force 2025) and Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon are all available digitally on Xbox. Switch just recently got the new Earth Defense Force: World Brothers and there will also be ports of EDF2+EDF3 later this year (first in Japan but I'm sure they'll come to the west eventually).
@@cenorexia thanx.👍 I totally got 2017 for $15. I Was wanting to get 2025, but i'm Not spending $50 on a game especially one released 2 consoles ago on the 360, also found out that 4.1 is basically a much better version of 2025 but locked to PS4 still, i think? Non the less i'm pretty sure 2017 will do just fine until those 2 Vita games become Switch games. I've been watching some World Brothers videos, and its not quite the same. I really like the look of the mainline EDF games but the the added classes and stuff from Wrld Bros Would be awesome.
Yeah it seems like when they had to choose between supporting Microsoft Xbox or Microsoft Windows, they chose the latter as the releases on Xbox stopped around the time the releases on Windows started.
Hey there. You can find the book on Amazon in Japan, that's were I got it from: www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/aw/d/4865292861 They also ship overseas, hope that helps :)
The edf devs or publisher went down hill when they made there earth defense force games for playstation timed exclusive idk wat there beef is with xbox but they gotta let it go cause they wont get much money if edf is just gonna be on playstation edf should not be a playstation exclusive title it doesn't fit in there edf is more of a let everyone experience this game no matter wat gaming platform you're on but the edf devs or publisher dont see it that way if they wanna make edf a playstation title then fine its gonna be flown under the rader and not get much money for doing that kind of action
Hi there! Thanks for watching and taking your time to leave a comment. I understand your sentiment but from D3's (the publisher) perspective as a japanese publisher, the Xbox One just wasn't a very viable option. With the exception of Insect Armageddon (which is also on Xbox) all the games were made by japanese studios, published by a japanese publisher, mainly for the japanese market first. I don't think they have any _beef_ with Xbox, it's just that Xbox One was hardly present in Japan to warrant a release. Xbox360 had _somewhat_ of a following in Japan but Xbox One is really nearly non-existent there. It's different in the west, I understand that, but D3 doesn't have the funds of an EA or Activision. If they would've invested in an Xbox One version, chances are they would've _lost_ money, not _make_ money. PS4 just was a much saver bet on their end. But apart from that, the series isn't wholly PlayStation exclusive to begin with. It started as a PlayStation exclusive budget title back in 2003 but the most recent one (World Brothers) is on PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. 4.1 and 5 are also on PC as is Iron Rain. 3 + 4 + Insect Armageddon were all on Xbox, too with 3 even being Xbox exclusive until the enhanced PS Vita port came along. So from the main titles really only 4.1 and 5 aren't on Microsoft Xbox (but they are on Microsoft Windows and also fully Xbox Controller compatible). I still hope for all Xbox players that EDF6 will come to their system as well!
Lets hope so i did hear that japan was getting some xbox boost back months ago i think when sony was being a dic and they switched over to xbox due to sony's horrible action but ye hopefully edf 6 will be on all 3 major gaming platforms
There's no English translation. EDF is already niche in Japan, and even more so outside of Japan. If for some reason EDF becomes super big outside Japan then there _might_ be some company willing to pay for a translation and release it in English but honestly I doubt it.
You might be thinking of that 2D shoot 'em up on SNES. It's a weird coincidence but that game is completely unrelated to D3's Earth Defense Force series, despite _also_ having "Earth Defenses Force" in its title. It's a different developer, different publisher and it's original japanese title is simply "E.D.F.", not "Chikyuu Boueigun" (this series's original name). It's like the first person shooter "Chasm" from 1997 being completely unrelated to the more recent game "Chasm" from 2018, despite both games having the same name. Or "Urban Chaos" from 1999 and "Urban Chaos" from 2006, also being two different games. It's confusing but it happens sometimes.
I enjoyed Insect Armageddon as well and I was really happy they brought back Lightning Alpha and the rest of the Insect Armageddon crew in EDF: World Brothers. In a way it's the closest we got to an actual sequel.

I'm currently enjoying World Brothers a lot. It's also coming to the west next month. It's a lot of fun and has _all_ the characters from _all_ the previous games!

Same here, but I discovered it by playing it in rentable PS2 (insert coin to use PS2 for few minute), it was the only game that got me invested so far compared to other ps2 games
Sandlot did a great job making a simple but fun game
This series has become one of my favorites and EDF 6 is now one of my favorite games of all time.
Insect Armageddon will always be my favourite
Had known about the series for a long time but never gave it a shot until 4.1 came out. Fell in love almost instantly, now I have a ridiculous amount of hours in 5 and still going strong. Its that game that I love to just hop on and shred for a little bit whenever im bored or just trying to chill. Such a great series, anxiously awaiting the US release of 6.
Awesome! Just stared playing 5, I think it's the best so far
We're still friends though and just recently played split screen again in the newest one, EDF: World Brothers ☺️ _Can't wait for EDF6!!_
of course, of all the edf series, it was (and the new one) has the most QoL changes in gameplay, those QoL improvements were something I could've dreamt of as a modder who would mod old edf games, kinda wished old titles could be modded with the same features in EDF5, the features in edf 5 were just too convenient, like being able to manually reload, upgrade weapons, shared loots, finishing harder difficulty clears lower difficulty, etc-etc.
thank you, just what i was looking for as im building my EDF collection :D
You're welcome! Since I made this video, there were a few additional releases:
EDF2, 3 & 4.1 on Nintendo Switch (Japan only)
EDF6 (released 2022 in Japan, earlier this year in the rest of Asia and will come to Europe/North America on July 25)
EDF World Brothers 2 (releases later this month in Japan and September 26 for Europe/North America)

EDF 4.1 Is one of the best If not THE best EDF game, also it has alotta great soundtracks
i'd love to argue with you, but objectively you may be right.
EDF 5 is my favorite , it is my first edf game and I had fun playing with the people online in that that game
EDF5 really is a great entry point for the series. Lots of good additions, great gameplay and solid online experience! Let's hope EDF6 can top that :D

Same! Just three more months! And I guess I have to make a new video then 😆
Didn't even know they had a light novel of EDF, man, maybe one day they'll do an anime, it would honestly be the best thing if they at least some sort of animation with EDF, hell even a CGI movie would be amazing.
@@cenorexia
That sounds incredible, now that I think about it, if it was animated, would they go crazy with all the goofy dialog, or would they actually make it into a serious thing, like where gets incredibly dark towards the end.

It's _very_ basic as far as turn-based strategy games go. But it does have the EDF charme and if you liked the first two games, you might like this one too.
I still applaud them for making it at all and I'd love for them to try another time to make an EDF game in another genre.
There actually is a spin-off of edf by a rival game company. It is called space war attack

Earth Defense Force 2017 is the best one of them all.

I wouldn't say Insect Armageddon is the worst (it did give us Fencer after all) and it was still, at its core a serviceable EDF game, Iron Rain I think takes the throne of worst spinoff EDF game though. Some of the design choices in that one are just completely against what EDF is about.

Can we get a list of song names? Trying to figure out what plays during the second part of EDF3 mobile
Why is it so HARD to find informations about the mobile games ??

I think you forgot the one for snes called E.D.F
That's not part of this series, though. It's a different developer, different publisher and the original japanese title is also just "E.D.F." (as opposed to "Chikyuu Boueigun" / 地球防衛軍, the japanese title of D3's "Earth Defense Force" series about fighting giant insects). It's just a coincidence they both have similar titles in the west. Another such example would be the late 90's first person shooter "Chasm" and the more recent game "Chasm". Or "Urban Chaos" on the PS1 and "Urban Chaos" on the PS2.
I really like the look of the mainline EDF games but the the added classes and stuff from Wrld Bros Would be awesome.
we need this game on xbox
Hopefully one day the Xbox crowd can join the fight again 💪

Sad that Xbox doesn’t get them anymore
Yeah it seems like when they had to choose between supporting Microsoft Xbox or Microsoft Windows, they chose the latter as the releases on Xbox stopped around the time the releases on Windows started.
@@cenorexia I didn’t know that thx
I think you forgot about Super EDF,
That one gets brought up from time to time but it's not part of the series by D3. It just happened to have a similar name but that's about it.
I need all the info you can give me on that book.
I want to know if there's anyway i can get a physical or digital copy.
Hey there. You can find the book on Amazon in Japan, that's were I got it from: www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/aw/d/4865292861
They also ship overseas, hope that helps :)
@@cenorexia They don't seem to ship to Australia. Thankyou though.
I played a game called edf on the switch virtual console thing and not a single bug
Yeah, that game is unrelated to D3's _Earth Defense Force_ series. It just happens to have a similar name.
@@cenorexia ohhh
Does anyone now if there’s an English translation of the novel and where to find it
There's no English translation. EDF is already niche in Japan, and even more so outside of Japan. If for some reason EDF becomes super big outside Japan then there _might_ be some company willing to pay for a translation and release it in English but honestly I doubt it.
@@cenorexia well thanks for letting me know
But it’s 2022
New video is coming in/around August, once EDF6 is out (it was supposed to come in 2021 but got postponed to '22).
Holy hell they all look the same!
It’s because you never play the series, because they don’t.
The first EDF is from 1991 not 2003 this isn't the complete history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@cenorexia Oh man I loved Chasm the rift
@@BF-Gator Haha! Me too! Surprised to see someone remember it. I still have a boxed copy on my shelf 😅
@@cenorexia Not to mention that D3's Earth Defense Force series having multiple scrolling shoot-'em-up spinoffs just adds to the confusion even more.
E D F !
Insect Armageddon derservrd a lot more love
I enjoyed Insect Armageddon as well and I was really happy they brought back Lightning Alpha and the rest of the Insect Armageddon crew in EDF: World Brothers. In a way it's the closest we got to an actual sequel.
@@cenorexia agreed what was your class I was always the heavy but the jettrooper was fun to
