Amazing it was 1978....the height of the Disco era, Mayor Koch was Mayor of NYC, Jimmy Carter was President........wow such historically relevant stuff and me....I was only 11 years old in Afros and wearing Chuck Taylor's.
This is what hip hop was to me as a little kid. A low quality dub of a mix tape 15 times removed from the master recording. It didn't matter though. Back then, it you just wanted to be down with the sound that was still in its infancy. One love.
Thank you so much.. Ive been looking for the source of that break for many years... Are you really Howie Tee the Uk born Dj producer of Chubb Rock , Real Roxanne , Utfo , Special Ed , Seeborn & Puma etc ? Dj's & producers would love to interview you , as your scratches & production were very influential. Got to mention. Chubb Rock - It´s so hot ..As the verses & wordplay were witty & clever.
...then Shack Up! Im dying here! BTW; The name was always pronounced "HERCULOIDS" but spelled Herculords. That is still the best crew name ever! "DJ Kool Herc and the Herculoids!" Brings back memories!

Bam didnt start graffitti, he was a graffitti artist. I saw his tags as early as 1974. Graffitti tagging was credited with a cat named TAKI 183, from 183rd Street in the BX. Bombing top to bottoms, look @ Style Wars, its a good complete history. Now the form that is most popular was started by KASE II, which is Wild Style, another good documentary.
Time for an L- Brothers documentary. Went to the Audubon Ballroom, winter, 1977. No heat in the joint. Grand Wizard still killed it. NUTS!! Spring, 77, James Monroe HS, Bx. Theodore vs Flash, possibly the biggest battle in early hip- hop history, gym was packed. Mean Gene, Cordio, Master Rob, Kevi Kev and occasionally the Busy Bee. The L- bros were DOPE!! Theodore, CUTS GALORE, baby!!
Truth,Peace,HTP, Bambaataa wrote graffitti, Breaking @ Bronx River parties was legendary in the streets of the Bronx for the original form of break dancing. Now its interesting that Break dancing could be 1) Break part of record, 2) Break on another dude style wise with your best dance move. what is the beat @ 8:20 it sounds like 'We are known as MC's by Crash Crew THX 4 uploadin' ! is this part 1 out of 5 ? where's are the other parts mate ?
I've been trying to find a track for ages that I think is entitled, Brownville. It has a sample at the beginning taken from the World Famous Supreme Team radio show. It's not on any Malcom Mclaren albums and it's not duck rock. The chorus goes, "From Br-Br-Br-Br-Brownsville, Br-Br-Brownsville." It's got a fast tempo to it. Any help would be great!
Thanks, but that's not the right one. Same 'brownsville' sample but different song. The one I'm after starts of with the Supreme Team radio show which goes into the song - probably around 120bpm.
...actually it is the ending part to the "World's Famous" song by McLaren/Supreme Team! On the D'ya Like Scratchin' EP, it leads into "Hobo (Scratch)"! On the 12 inch version, it is NOT a part of "Hobo (Scratch)"! Peace...
@gustard33 You said it! Way-way-way AHEAD! Bust this: All of this was done on equipment/machines whose functions and usage were never made or intended for this use! It was both PURE ART & AVANT-GARDE intended to make change, and made expressly for the MASSES!!!!!!!!!!!
Unccle Locc yea that club was called galaxy 2000 small hole in the wall club mostly all those clubs were small except savoy manor or audobon ball room in manhattan
Yes, BamBaataa wrote graffitti on the buses...the depot was not far from BX River...also tagged up here and there back in the day....so did Kool DJ AJ...AJ 161...AJ=ALL JIVE...
Kool Herc had a style, Bam did, Flash did, Theodore did, Breakout did, AJ, Cold Crush did..it was a collective not singular piece that made the pie. Kool DEE gave 1st block party not HERC, thats what Im saying and the 1st theme of the genre came from HARLEM, CHUCK CENTER..thats whats up for real...all the rest is what it is...not relevant....
nothing beats the original begining of hip hop, in my opinion the younger generation should pay homage, show love and respect to the ones who started this in New York period.

Facts
I sometimes forget that the mixing was a unique and key aspect of the music, back then. Just as important as the rapping.
Hard to believe that this sound was produced in 1978
This can't be 1978....it just can't be! It must have been nice to be around in hip hop's infancy
This was way ahead of its time.....amazing, it sounds like somthing from the late 1980s or early 90s but this is 1978, wow.
Good stuff.
L brothers are my favorite of the pioneers.
It doesnt sound anything like the 90s. This sound was gon by then
But it does sound like where Nujabes got a lot of his inspirations from.
@@peepeerogers Could you elaborate on that please I can't hear it

I would love to hear hip hop from it's infancy like early mid 70's. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can find any like this
I would be interested to hear something from 73-76 if it exists also.
Theres an 8mm clip kool herc shows in that one bbc documentary, doesn't look like it has sound though.. that might be one of the first parties.
Windsor Price
I think I saw some Doc. on youtube about Herc featuring the "Merry-go-round" track

+Dean P. Wells They also put "br-br-br brownsville" in many beginnings of tracks even though they just added in the sample.
...actually it is the ending part to the "World's Famous" song by McLaren/Supreme Team! On the D'ya Like Scratchin' EP, it leads into "Hobo (Scratch)"! On the 12 inch version, it is NOT a part of "Hobo (Scratch)"! Peace...
