Nearly 60 years ago I used to 'take part' at Wiscombe Park, in an Allard Special. One of the twelve cars built before the war, and at that time I think the only one of the twelve then on the road. Sadly having applied to the VSCC for acceptance in the 'Post vintage' class , it was turned down on the grounds of their not wanting a rash of Ford V8 specials in the club! The Allard was a production car, not a 'bitzer '( home made special) As a result the car is now in the States. Watching the procession of Austin seven Specials , and Riley Specials that one sees at any VSCC meeting ( In no way detracting from their build quality and performance!) It is just a sad reflection on the deminishing variety of original cars one sees at these meetings.! Ps In my day 'The Gate' had granite posts on either side which tended to sharpen ones concentration and the trees seem to be quite a bit bigger!!
